I did similar in 80's and shortened a 5ton truck. That too had an angled propshaft but ran fine for years. Manual 5t Trewhella winch, didn't need gym membership!

I have been thinking of buying an old truck and doing the same to it and I found you channel and it was like dejavu to my thoughts lol...not exactly but in theory. The diy driveshaft shortening was awesome, very ingenious. I see the issue with the electric winch and batteries. A lot of heat buildup and damage to the brushes and battery. Now you need a rear locker, add some more weight (possible fluid in the tires?) and a log blocker plate to keep a log from ramming into the rear axle. Just thinkning out loud lol. Can't wait to see where you go with this old truck. Nice setup so far.

That wench runs off PTO, do you have a one and place on trans to bolt it on to?

My winch is going to run off of the plow hydraulics. You do whatever you want with your wench buddy 😅

Hope you beveled those edges and burned the weld in good on that frame. After shortening it there is going to be a lot of stress in that area. Wouldn't be good to have one let go while skidding some logs. I would keep an eye on the welds for a few pulls. Like the idea and concept. Braden winches are good tough winches. Should last a good long time.

Yeah I turned the welder up all the way. I've loaded it with a 3000 lb log and haven't had any issues. I've been welding for over 30 years now and never had a structural weld fail yet. Thanks for the input .
