If you’re starting to learn about sustainable and ethical living and how to curate a more mindful closet, a great step is to learn how to sew your own things. This way you can invest your own time into creating or tailoring beautiful pieces that will serve you in the long run and steer clear of cheap and nasty items that have been sewn in sweatshops or from unsustainable materials.

Amazing, well done! Glad to hear it turned out well and that the video was helpful :)
After some searching, your tutorial is the clearest I've found on KZread. Thankyou very much..
this was actually really helpful, im using some jeans i found on sale for an art project and i have to bring up the hem by 10 cm and ive been stuck for days , thank you so much
Dear sweetie, thank you for your time and effort to share the technic of needle sewing. I am a learner and in zero idea of needle sewing but with your excellent sharing, at least it help me a lot. Thank you.
Wonderful! Thank you so much. I have never really learned how to sew and only know enough to get myself into lots of trouble. You made it so easy that I now feel confident to hem my husbands jeans. You can learn even at age 62. And if I didn't say it enough your video was wonderful. informative and easy to follow. Thank you.
Thank you thank you very much for going slow and explaining thoroughly!🎉
I really like this tutorial because I never see truly wide flared jeans shown and it doesn't destroy the original jeans really so if you mess up it isn't so permanent as cutting
This tutorial is so helpful. One of the easiest methods explained so well! It turned out so perfect. Thanks a lottt!

You're welcome 😊 Hope your mum's jeans turned out!
Thanks alot, i followed your instructions and it helped me shorten my jeans myself
So easy to understand - thank you! I'll be hemming pants this weekend.
Perfect, thank you! I wish I'd known this on all the pants I hemmed over the years. I have a feeling I'm gonna be doing this method a lot since I'm a shorty. 😩
Excellent video. Very easy to follow!
Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I have to rehem all of my pants by hand and have for many decades. Doing the cut and fold method worked fine but I hated losing the original hem. I watched dozens of other videos that were not as clearly explained and demonstrated as you have done here. With trepidation, I finished my first rehemmed jeans and they were PERFECT. This method is sew ez. Thank you, again.

I just got done watching a super complicated video that only had machine directions. I can't wait to try this!😊
BEATFULL AND VERY EASY THANKS FOR SHARING YOU ARE SO KIND GOD BLESS YOU
I have an extremely similar style jeans to these wide leg ones and My mom is telling me to not try this and take it to a pro instead. However I’m broke and she isn’t paying for it so I’m gonna do it anyway. I also have basically very very basic knowledge of sewing by hand so, I’ll update y’all :)

OMG!! 3 hours and a couple breaks later, I did it! My mom was genuinely shocked at how professional it looked. I even skipped the step of the extra stitch inside instead just pressed the iron real well, Im only gonna be wearing it for a couple hours anyway so I feel Ike it’ll be fine! I am literally 5’1’’ every single pair I own is too long, guess who’s hemming every pair this week haha

Hi! Just about to try this out, great easy to follow vid :) If I try it out on flared jeans, since the hem is slightly bigger then where i'm going to stitch it too, do i cut off some of the hem? In the vid I noticed there's a slight difference for your pants too but it didn't seem to change anything

Flared jeans shouldn't be any different when sewing them to the length you want, but then make sure you securely stitch all the extra fabric up to the side seams so that it's hidden and won't easily fall down. You could fold some of the extra fabric too when you hide it away!
I just need to do some sweatpants that I lounge around the house in. I suppose to handle the excess that is rolled underneath, I could do a stitch all the way around, not just at the side seams. After all, this is just something I wear at home anyway.
Awesome
Hi. Great idea. I was wondering why you didn’t cut off the extra material and kept it instead.
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
I'm keeping it there just in case I'd like to take the length down in future!
Another mystery of the universe solved. Thanks! Also, is it better to leave the excess of cut it off?
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
Pleasure! Prefer to leave it just in case I need to take them down or in case I give them away and the next person needs them longer 🙂
can you cut the excess that was folding over on the inside after you’re done sewing the hem so it’s not as bulky at the bottom?
@SlewLiving
2 жыл бұрын
You can except denim does fray quite a lot. So if you have a serger or zig zag stitch it would hold the edge together and stop it from fraying (but of course those are machines and not by hand)
wild wild wild 🎶
just wondering, other than the fact that you don't want to cut the fabric, is there any reason why you wouldn't want to cut off the excess folded part of the jeans (the part that is hidden inside the pant leg) once you've finished the hem?
@SlewLiving

I left it just in case I wanted to take them down again. Or maybe if I sold them onto someone else, they might be taller and want more length :)
Hi! What brand is this jeans I'm looking for one exactly as wide as this is but can't find I'll be grateful if you can help telling me where did you get this from and what brand if I can get it online 🤔

can i cut the excess material off? i just did it but i can feel the excess material inside and it’s kinda uncomfy even tho i did see the rest in
@SlewLiving

You can cut it off but it will fray :)
Is the extra fabric along the inside at the bottom noticeable to the wearer? Can you feel the extra fabric?
@SlewLiving
2 жыл бұрын
I had to stitch the extra fabric to the legs on both seams otherwise it would fall down and be noticeable, but wearing them doesn't feel any different I don't think!

@@SlewLiving great thanks so much!
a lil question but does this work on flared jeans?? 😮💨😮💨i have a pair of flared jeans that i love but theyre too long for me..
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
It might not work very well with flared jeans since there will be too different widths to match up unfortunately 😕
I just bought these jeans that are almost as long as me
I am a bit confused. I have a pair that need to hemed 4 inches but the hem is two inches. Would I add the 2 inches to the 4 base sticks?
@SlewLiving
8 ай бұрын
Hmm if I understand correctly I think you can either 1. Not cut anything and just fold your hem up twice then sew, or 2. Cut off some bulk from the hem and fold it up twice but reduce the amount you are folding up to half an inch (so that you fold one inch in total). Hopefully that helps!
@DallasTeagueMusic

thank you@@SlewLiving
So you don't cut the extra material that is folded?
@SlewLiving
2 жыл бұрын
No I didn't cut it because it would fray. If you don't mind it fraying on the inside on your jeans you can cut it but I think it would get annoying after time!
Isn't it ok to cut off the excess material from the underside because they need heaming more than 5 inches
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
You can cut off the excess material, it would just cause the material to fray
do i have to use a safety pin

Not sure what you mean?
Which sewing machine are you using?
@SlewLiving
2 жыл бұрын
I use an industrial Juki straight stitch machine most of the time, but I also just a standard Brother domestic machine that was passed on to me 😁 Any straight stitch domestic machine should be able to change to a big enough needle for this 👍
what if I don't have matching thread with my jeans?
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
Go with the best match you have! White might work seeing as some denim has a white base anyway.
Can you please give me the link of the foot like yours? Thanks
@SlewLiving
6 ай бұрын
It depends whether you have a domestic or an industrial type machine but if you look up 'compensating foot' for your model/machine type it should come up! I just had a look and there are lots.
Can you please suggest a machine for beginners
@SlewLiving
Жыл бұрын
Mm I would say any regular sewing machine that you can get your hands on that is in good working condition! There are lots of affordable second hand options, and also new options that offer very similar quality. Try to check reviews as there will be some rated more highly than others, but entry level machines from Brother, Singer, Janome should all so the trick!
You need to taper those!
@SlewLiving

These are a super wide leg style 😀 I have lots of other pairs of tapered jeans hehe
It's called a zipper foot
@SlewLiving

Ah yes, it can be called a zipper foot! Just beware that you can also get specific zipper feet which are very different. Eg. An invisible zipper foot 👌
I thought no sewing machine was needed!
