but just imagine if Paxman did it. "Why did he miss Nf7? Are you seriously maintaining he could hope to win in a position like that. Why is he taking so long to move? Come on! Why is Nigel so incompetent? I want to talk to you about something you wrote in the British Chess magazine three years ago...

Yes, Jeremy James' absence was a travesty... he knew something about the game! Hartson has always been an able and enjoyable commentator and author. Nunn was one of the strongest players in the world in '93... the power of humility. BTW, Dr. Nunn was Oxford's youngest undergraduate since the 15th Century!

Oh, and forgot to mention, GM David Norwood may be the wealthiest Grandmaster on the planet -- made his money in the markets. Karpov supposedly owns a majority stake in a several billion dollar gas company, so who knows?

yungf4st: the problem with Qg8 is that black can then play PxR and he's created a flight square for his king on d6. White is down a bishop and a rook with no way to continue the attack.

Of course what with it being 1993, the BBC were obliged to use a 1982 BBC MicroB from 1982 for the graphics.

Wrong! Qg8 loses to dxc5 and the Black king has an escape square on d6.

Thanks very much for these videos. That has to be the most clueless commentary I've ever heard about a chess game. I bet John Nunn was cringing at everything the bowtie said - "and it's a draw. oh no!"
