Molotow markers have short shelf life. The ink breaks down and becomes silver-grey after a year or two. Gundam markers have good shelf life

I have noticed that they lose their "chrominess" if they get old. Best when fresh.

I don't clear coat mine. Clear coats (typically) change the brightness of metallics when applied.

I have heard of it coming off when handled so probably not recommended for this application. Anyone have experience with this?

Yeah, using it for that excatly purpose right now, it comes off easy, except if you gove ot a hogh gloss finish.

Can the paint from the molotow marker be poured out onto a tray?

I understand you can take apart the marker and pour out paint, airbrush guys were doing this. Apparently one has to be very careful. If you search you may find some reference videos on this.

Do you have to shake them good before using

I always shake mine. I store them cap down so there is paint always keeping the marker end wet.
