SHORT, FINE, HEAT DAMAGED CURLY HAIR ROUTINE WITH NICOL CONCILIO (tips for volume + definition)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Style with @Manes by Mell and @Nicol Concilio, as I teach her how to embrace her natural texture, how to style and treat her heat-damaged curly hair and show her how to style her fine, short wavy/curly hair for the best volume and definition! We had such a fun time connecting with Nicol! Her curly hair journey is super relatable and so we hope that you follow along with this video when styling your hair to get more volume and definition in your hair as well! PS, this is the first time we are doing a video like this, so make sure to give it a thumbs up if you want to see more!

It was really great to see the same routine on completely different hair types and how the techniques still worked across both. I think this would make an amazing series. I think all your followers would kill for you to come and style their hair.. but the next best thing is watching you instruct someone with the same hair as them and see the sort of results they could get. Thanks for all the amazing tips, tricks and science. You really are a gift to the curly community ❤️❤️❤️

Nicol I'm like you, I have very fine, thin hair but I've recently started embracing my curl and I love it . I do have one suggestion for you that the seesters probably don't think about bc they're blessed with thickness! You can go to Sally's (or probably any beauty supply store) and get Toppik hair building fibers and it will change the way you feel about your hair. I know it wasn't mentioned in the video but I am almost certain it bothers you like it does me that you can see so much of your scalp. This will end those worries, I promise and they have different shades to choose from as well as different methods to apply it. Just check it out, trust me on this one . I'm so glad to see women building one another up and helping each other out, I wish we could get to a place where we respected and uplifted one another without the threat of feeling like we're competition. Anyway ❤ your hair, you look amazing and hope this little tip from one thin, curly haired girl to another helps. 😉

Your hair is gorgeous!! My curl is somewhere between yours and Amanda's, but not nearly as thick, or long as hers, and I've found that I do better with a scarf, than a bonnet. The less the hair moves around, the better. My hair is always a hot mess in the morning with the bonnet, and I've never been able to do past "day 2" hair, and even that was iffy lol. I discovered the scarf last weekend, and I'm currently on day 3 hair. So, if the bonnet doesn't work for you, try a scarf.

@@Yes...but... so sorry, didn't see this until now! I get excited and ramble about hair a lot so sorry in advance for the long reply, but hopefully it's helpful. It does work pretty well, but I just rewatched the video and I do have just a tiny amount of beef with it; it seems like there are a few things mel didn't consider when it comes to hair as low density and short as mine or the guest's. So, the sectioning while going in with the denman brush works great for me now since I recently got really short layers right at the top of my head, but when I first tried it a year ago I didn't have layers and it felt pointless. I truly don't have enough hair to bother doing it in sections, so instead I borrowed from a different mel video featuring her cousins wavy hair where she flipped her head over and used the denman brush while the hair was upside down and it worked much better. I also don't apply any product while the hair is sectioned even now because, more times than not, I end up with way too much product in my hair and the results are flat and greasy looking. Also, when it comes to diffusing, I do the whole hover part on just my roots and while switching between being upside down and from side to side until mostly dry to achieve max volume. When scrunching the hair in the cup, I also do that upside down because I can get closer to the roots that way and therefore get more curl closer to the root. Mel has a dos and donts video for diffusing that advises against this, but it works beautifully for me personally. And just a note to really pay attention to where your clumps are when finger coiling/rolling. I noticed the guest grabbed easily 2 or 3 clumps in that front area and coiled them as one. Once her hair was dry, you can see that front piece looks completely separate from the rest of her hair because of this. Which isn't a bad look, I just personally don't like it on myself because it makes my scalp more visible to I make sure to only grab where my curls clump naturally. Overall, I really love the routine here and still use it to this day(albeit a more quick and lazy version unless I'm really trying to look good, but same idea still lol), but I had to play around with it and tweak it to my unique hair needs and preferences. I still have yet to try the thickening tonic. I really want to but it's just out of my budget. Other alternatives you can find on the cheap at drug stores are sprays that use sea salt or have "texturing" on the label. I also love spray leave in conditioners(Cantu has a great one) for a more weightless result, but if you can splurge I highly, HIGHLY recommend the weightless air dry cream. For the foam they each used, never tried either of them but most mousses/foams I've tried work just fine

@@Yes...but... EDITING TO ADD: I rewatched that diffusing video and I take it back, I follow that advice basically to the letter aside from when she says dont start scrunching with the diffuser until it's mostly dry. I hover the ends a little before going in, but that "too much shrinkage" comment applied moreso to curlier girls I feel like; as a wavy I'll take all the shrinkage and curling I can get! Lol. I also don't touch any part of my hair with my hands until 100% dry. Anyway, complete tangent and not at all what you asked, just wanted to clarify. If you haven't seen it, it's all good advice and I'd recommend it along with this routine (: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWuK0bKQe5DdddI.html

Omg, I never knew my hair could look anywhere near like yours, until today!!! This was hands down the best curly hair routine video ever. I somewhat tried to follow your routine before but somewhere I failed and my curls were flat. Not today, today my curls are poppin!!! I’m too happy, I’m even writing a comment and I don’t do that. Thanks Mel, you have truly outdone yourself and made me feel like a curl queen!!

Even though my hair isn't fine I still found some helpful tips. My struggle with my hair is trying to get my underneath part of my hair to curl like the rest, sometimes it looks straight or a little wavy.

Edit: I applied some of these techniques to my wash routine and omg, no frizz! And defined curls! I fingercoiled all my sections and it made such a difference! So pleased! This was so helpful, it was like attending a masterclass. You are such a good teacher! I can't wait to try this tomorrow. I think my curl pattern is similar to Nicols (except my hair is halfway down my back) so I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I have watched a LOT of curly hair videos over the last couple of years and honestly Mel yours are the best! This has been hands down the most helpful so far for me, especially in regards to styling, and what products to use for my hair type (fine, damaged 2C/3A). I find that most videos are geared towards curly hair that is way thicker and curlier than mine. But it's the fact that you guided Nicol so well step by step, love this video so much! Thanks you guys, great job! 😁🙌❤️
