Shop organization - Power tool cabinet
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This week I made a much needed shop cabinet made for power tools and sand paper. Its made from plywood and walnut. I made the cabinet modular which allows you to change its configuration depending on what tools you store in it.

All the other woodworking videographers have the same screw-ups. You are the first one I've watched that actually shares. My hat is off to you and I feel better about my screw-ups.
This is one of those fantastic examples that teaches us all the tremendous value of cutting & test-fitting on scraps, and also testing finishes on scraps of our proposed materials BEFORE we actually build the piece. That way we know exactly what we're in for once we get rockin' & rollin' on the project. Sure it's an extra 1/2 hour or more up front, but it saves sooo much time on the back end. Thank you for teaching all of us through your own experience!!!

Oh, I was busy waiting to judge somebody else's mistakes ;-) No hate, man, all love & appreciation for all KZreadrs. This project is awesome. I have power tool cubbies too & love them. The sand paper section is on my list! Thanks again for all your hard work for our benefit!!!
Great to see that this weekend worrier is not thee only one who gets it wrong. Thanks for sharing the "warts and all" videos.

I'm glad you kept the mistakes in. That stuff happens all the time and KZread vids would make you think no one ever messes up lol
Just subscribed because you showed the woe's of woodworking as you went not the typical "look I have a scrap piece now I'll whittle an entire dinning room set with my razor knife flawlessly!" Good stuff keep it up.
Thanks for NOT editing your goof ups out like some guys would do. If it is any help it makes me feel better now knowing I am not the only one that does that kind of stuff. Good video and glad to see you back.
Love how you show and talk about the pitfalls. Looks great in the end too

I like the shelves and appreciate you including the mistakes because they are a great example to always be thinking ahead. I know that for me, about the time I start think I am killing a project something is going to be messed up.
I'm glad you left in the mistakes that's how most of my projects go and probably a lot of other people too.
I love the way you can 'pull out' the dividers for the sandpaper instead of trying to reach in there in order to grab the smaller pieces
Welcome to the club. I recently had a project like this where the dividers didn't fit either. All I did was put a straight bit in the router table and just grazed the edges, top and bottom of one side, until it fit.
thank you for showing your mistakes its encouraging to know someone else can make mistakes during a build or project.

Same here sometimes I feel so stupid when I’m building something it’s good to know it’s not just me. Good job overcoming!
came out nice. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that screws things up mid project. I get in a hurry.
Wow that one put up a fight! Came out looking great in the end!
I like the way you don't edit out minor mistakes, it makes the rest of us feel human. I'd like other content creators to do the same :) greetings from Ireland.
"Holy jeez what a pain in the hole!" Adding that to my vocab right now.

Nice job and reminds me of my day's. Nothing's easy.
It is refreshing to see someone let the mistakes be part of the final video. In fact, I think you may be unique in that aspect. It can be discouraging to see all these videos where everything is just perfect and than I try to do it and screw it up.
Sometimes we have to have some bad times to appreciate the good ones. Nothing wrong with a failure as long as you learn...looks like you did just that..Thanks for posting
Been building furniture for over 30 years and that still happens to me! Thanks for sharing.. even the foul ups Ryan. Made me feel a whole lot better! Nice storage design.

Failure is not the opposite of success. Failure is apart of success.
Ouch!.... the pain in ass build that turned out to be! Been there, you seem to have a lot more patience than I ever had. Well done for keeping your cool. And the build!
Despite the problems, you turned out a first rate job! It looks great and is very functional. Well done.
Awesome video and awesome cabinet! I love how you showed that you’re human and mistakes happen. Good job sticking with it. It turned out great!
Man! What a pain! But it did come out nice, and it really gave me some ideas for more organization for my shop! Thanks!
Thanks for sticking with it, man! It came out looking really good and it seems to serve it's purpose well :)
It is actually pretty good, handy and not that ugly so i'll give you a 10 !!
Way to rise above it Ryan. Looks great, keeps you happy keeping the shop clean!
I can't count the many times I had it in my "head what I want it to be" and when I built it " it wasn't close :) But then again, problem solving 'juices' kicked in, & everything was fine. You sir have a job, well done!
INSPIRATION!!!!! INSPIRATIONS EVERYWHERE!!!!
Ryan, nice vid! Both you and Jackman Works pick the best music. :) I gotta make a cabinet like that for my shop too but after seeing just how much fun you had making yours, I'm not sure now. lol
Nice job. I like that you show your mistakes. It makes all of us feel normal! :)
Way to hang in there! You inspired me. Most times, if I ran into half the problems, I would have tossed it out and went to buy one.
dude it's a shop cabinet for power tools!! who cares about the looks...came out nice man.
Great cabinet. I think it was more fun to watch the struggle. Ha ha ha. Good luck with the new shop.

Man, can one cabinet be such a pain in the neck! Glad you got it in the end
Thanks for sharing your mistakes, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does stuff like that haha. Plus it just helps to prevent them, I'll think of your mistakes when I'm doing my work so I don't have to make the same.
Thanks for posting this! It makes me feel better about my issues. And might make me swear less.
Thanks for sharing, I have those days too.
Turned out real nice.
Nice build, warts and all.

Nice. Everyone has had a project like that. it should be a couple of hours but takes a day.
Man... you had a couple of hurdles to jump on this. I appreciate you sharing the build. Gives me hope that even with my setbacks... I'm not the only one. It did turn out great though. Thanks for sharing!
Holy jeez, I could feel your pain during the video. Thanks for sharing the battle.
Turned out great man!
Absorbing information... absorbing information... wait he has a cat?? KITTY!!!
Hi, found your Chanel today. Awsome work! Thumb up! Kind regardes from Germany.
All those fixes were worth it. The cabinet looks nice, doing all those fixes says a lot about you and your channel. I've seen other woodworkers that don't give a damn about their mistakes, and just go and upload the video with them.

Still looks great.
I definitely know how you feel with projects that are fighting you tooth and nail. Came out great in the end though!
Thank you for this video! I really appreciate you sharing all the things that didn't work out - those are the things for me to keep in mind when I'm working on projects; very helpful!
In the end Ryan it came out great. I really appreciate your honesty. I think we all run into this. I did it for a shop project to save $10.00 boy I'm I so glad I only bought 1 sheet I'll pay 10 dollars more or more for quality. My opinion only. Great job keep up the great work.
Hang in there Ryan. At least it turned out nice. Good job.
Nice. I know I will be so happy when I finally build something like this, its just making the time to do it. Always seems to be something else I have to make for someone else.
Hey, I know this was a pain but it turned out great. I need to do something like this in my own shop. Thanks for a great and very honest video.
Hey i learnt a lot from this video, those mistakes are good mistakes, and yeah we all made them, nevertheless good and practical cabinet. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
I just found your channel. I appreciate that you left your mistakes in the video. New subscriber here.

wow turned out great
Great job, I especially like how you keep the language clean, definitely subscribing.
pretty slick , I like it
What a pain! But hey man it looks great! Thanks for the idea! Looks like a great way to store my loose tools.
You got it right at the end, good on you for perseverance mate 👍🏻
Another great job, Ryan! I know it sucks to have so much go wrong, but it really helps us to learn as well. When you said "what a pain in the hole this cabinet has been" I laughed so hard I cried. Also, from the side I thought your sweatshirt said "BURRITO" and I thought "That's cool!" :-) Thanks for another great video.
Looks very fancy!!
It's nice to see I'm not the only one that screws stuff up once in a while! haha Good idea for a shop project. I like the hardwood trim; it adds a touch of class to the workshop. I did the same with oak trim on some melamine base cabs. Plus, like @NickFerry points out, it's good to try different or new things on shop projects to add to our skill set. Everything we do is practice for the next time!
Hey Ryan, you built what I need. :-) Great job. You kept cool while struggeling, awesome. Greetings from Germany.
Love this project - definitely going to use it in my shop. Thanks!

good job Ryan mistakes are part of the process we learn as we go brother that is what makes us human
Above all bad things It came out looking very good my friend awesome job bro :)
The real videos are always the best! Way to persevere. If you have a sec could you elaborate a little on the divider slots? I watched that part of the vid and didn't notice any jigs to keep them matched. The other thing was cutting the dividers? I always get nervous when running something wider than deep against the fence. I try to incorporate the mitre gauge and block as well as wax the crap out of the saw table top.
"holy cheese for the pain in the hole this cabinet's been" That's a great mannerism :D
I was laughing, but it was WITH you! I feel like I run into tiny issues all the time. Looks good, now that it's done 😆

+Walter Kessler yeah, the little mistakes can drive you nuts;)
Oh man! You messed up really bad, but the cabinet looks awesome. I need something like this in my shop ;)
yayy, glad your back! was missing ya
Hindsight is the cleverest sight to have, however I have an observation. You might have been better off gluing either another piece of that crappy ply inside the end verticals over the paper side to cover it up. If that takes too much room, then maybe a piece of MDF or Masonite. Just a thought. Admire you sticking to get the job finished, my jobs usually blow out in time as well. Cheers, Grand Gaz
Very nice. I see Murphy visited your shop. Uggh
That turned out great Ryan, now I just have to find a spare wall to replicate it on!

"Holy Jeez" Ryan, How can you make all of those mistakes and still make it look great? Thanks for another good idea and great video. I don't think I've ever seen it but I'll keep clear of that plywood.
Good job.
I did a cabinet for my powertools. It's shitty compared to yours, but it get's the job done. I really like that you show all your mistakes, puts the end product in perspective :)
Nice, having all that easy access for your tools is awesome! I feel your pain on the cabinet, I built a cabinet not too long ago that was a complete disaster, the problems just seemed to snowball. It starts to make you question your abilities lol.

pretty ballsy havin those lenses in your workshop :D
I really like your design, by chance would you post the scetchup file for us fans to copy? Great idea and workmanship....and patience with crap ply!! Thanks.
Nice job. Instead of using masonite I wonder if a dado blade would have knocked that mdf down enough to fit those grooves
great job mate ! respect for showing your mistakes If I could build that I would be a happy man..............subbed
Couldn't agree more about imported plywood. I bought some pre-finished import plywood and after cutting it broke out in a terrible rash all over. That would have been bad enough, but every piece I cut warped most bad enough not to be able to use.
