    I competed on the state level with my national guard unit back in the 90's with M14's in a match similar to this. It was the governor's twenty. Very similar course of fire but only went to 500 yards. Earned my governor's twenty tab, Army excellence in rifle competition badge and several plaques. The good old days when I could actually still get into positions w/out a bunch of snapping and popping in the joints. lol

    we have a similar yearly festival like this in switzerland, only its for kids aged 13-17. its called knabenschiessen. we get gov rifles to shoot and a supervisor, so really any kid can join and try their luck. i went every year and it was always fun, almost advanced to the second round once. also its only 5 shots so you really want to be as precise and patient as possible with every shot.

    Looks awesome id love to try it. Question though, why are the rifle stocks positioned soooo unrealistically high up on the shoulder for while standing? Without researching my question any, to me I am guessing its something along the lines of making length of pull equal /fair? If you need the stock riding that high just to get a dead on look down the scope then why not run a high position cantilever mount for the scopes to get the stock back down where it belongs at, securely pushing all of the pad into the shoulder. Dont get me wrong i hate goofy high rise scopes if its aesthetics theyre going for lol, but something tells me thats not the reason why they do it

  • @ernestsorrell9811

    @ernestsorrell9811

    In the standing position, its the most stable way to shoot. Your resting ur left elbow on your body to create skeletal support rather than muscular support. You will notice that while shooting in the standing position, they are standing straight up, some even slightly leaned back. This is so that the upper arm can rest on/be locked against the torso. Since the rifles are service rifles, they are designed for combat shooting. Combat shooting stances are much different and in combat stances you would see the stocks of the rifles being mostly covered by the shoulder. But in this accuracy based skeletal supported standing position, the rifle stocks sit very high on the should just due to the rifles being held in an unnatural way, or at least a way that they were not specifically designed to be held. Hope this helps.

    @@dontask8979 Agreed, theres no recoil but I believe what he means is this is the stance they take whilst standing, to get the most accuracy as possible, since theres no leaning into anything for support or proping up on something for stability. Its pretty hard to make far off precise shots (atleast competitively how they are) just free standing and aiming. Now I see why they use this stance, makes more since to me because youre actually propping up on your own body this way for more steady accuracy

    I agree with you, they should have left optics out altogether. Optics are one of those things where, on average, the more you spend, the better you're advantage, and thats never a good thing for any competition. But it has been a problem with bastic training and AIT for the last several years. In most cases, irons arent even taught anymore. Even the most durable optic can, and does break. Irons can never be replaced. Optics should always be treated as exactly what that they are: luxuries.

This show funnily exposes our field shooting (something else than the mandatory military shooting but with the same rules) : kzread.info/dash/bejne/nJuNrJePYqu_qZc.html A good shooter can stay in a 7.9' (20cm) diameter circle at 330 yards (300m)

    The rules allowing optics up to 4.5 changed in 2016. The reasoning being that the military had switched to issuing optical sights. One still needs a spotting scope for wind and mirage as well as scoring. The Army determined that it would be better to train new shooters with irons first and then transition to optics. That way the fundaments would be ingrained.

    The second amendment was created so that civilians could defend themselves from government. Could you own a boat with 50 cannons? Could you put explosive cannon balls into those cannons? Did hand held grenade launchers exist for civilians? The answer to all of those questions is yes. And no, you did not have to be a part of any militia to own any of those. Even a slight amount of reading from that period of time would prove your point wrong, even though you heard that the 2A was made for only hunting, home defense, and for well regulated militias.

  • @PR0per6RAMmar

    @PR0per6RAMmar

     @Jack Mariner Well said. I'm actually critiquing this event (and video, boomer voice over and all) from the Pro-2A side. IMO the majority of "shooters" seen in this video are not shooters. They are hobbyists. Hardly any of the attendees could actually provide for their own defense in a situation like what 2A was written to preserve. Militia's, in the streets, resisting tyranny. Like what we saw this time two years ago. And if a similar situation happened in their hometowns, they would do as they did before. Turn off the lights, lock the doors, stay inside. Don't fight. We don't need to go that far the uncover their true beliefs. Let's hypothesize and say that a situation happens in the near future, let's say a voluntary buy-back for any military service rifle copy, let's say after a horrific mass murder/terrorist attack that leaves hundreds of innocent men, women, and children dead. The media machine is spun into overdrive, sacralizing the victims and demonizing the chosen implement of destruction: guns. And by association, anyone who owns one. Because these hobbyists are just that, they would "do the right thing" and "take the guns off the streets". Their favorite pass time, but that's a small price to pay if it means saving even just one life. Right? I don't mock, and I don't condemn. Hell, given the right combo and poignant propoganda, peer pressure, and the feeling of abandonment, I might even do the same. But that's exactly what I'm trying to guard against, in my training, in my study, and in my conversations with those around me. I don't believe the Pro-2A movement, or gun culture in America in general, benefits from this kind of event being the face presented to the wider, firearms illiterate public. But it is, because it's "safe", "approachable", "family friendly", or whatever else the lizard brain wants to disguise it as. The authors of 2A had none of these adjectives in mind. 2A is about wielding lethal force is defense of your life, liberty, and property.
