Toni Reviews is a youtube channel dedicated to real rider reviews, from a London born and bred cockney. In this video I review the Shoei Glamster. Here I look at the pro's and cons, and delve into some of the things that no other review I have found to date has mentioned.

I purchased my Shoei Glamster here for £334.99 and I ride with the Basalt Grey model. The pictures look like a matt helmet but it is in fact a gloss finish. motohawk.co.uk/products/shoei...

    I feel that i must add my findings after owning this helmet for 6 months or so, i have had no wind squealing noise at all, haven’t noticed any reflection with the pinlock plus I wear glasses in the helmet.There is a vented position that you can put the visor in rather than having it fully locked in place, it really is a great helmet and would strongly recommend it.

    nizamknight thank you for your comments. Yes I felt the same. I purchased my Glamster simply from doing my homework and watching KZread reviews, all of which were positive. A different experience with actually owning it. I must say it is a nice looking helmet , comfortable to wear and the pin lock lense is great at not fogging, but at £350 thats a hefty price tag. I think you could get used to the negatives over time, bite that money there may be better options on the market. Anyway hope it helped. Take care

    THIS is what a proper unbiased review should look like! The problem with most motorbike gear reviews is that they're made by the distributors etc. who have never rode for any decent length of time in it. So they go over specs and the looks and clearly have vested interest in selling stuff, doesn't matter if good or not. So your time spent and very thorough and insightful opinion is very refreshing and so much appreciated, thank you.

    Hi. I try to be as honest as I can in my reviews. Tbh since owning it I’ve only worn it twice, I am disappointed with it but I think this is probably common with modern retro helmets like these. There seems to be a trade off between style and substance. If your simply looking for a quality full face helmet there are plenty of others out there to choose from. If your wanting a modern retro style then unfortunately your probably going to have to sacrifice a little something for it. Hope this helps, safe riding and happy adventures 👍

    Bedtime Story Films many thanks. I’m glad you found it helpful. Yes I was disappointed with the helmet overall considering the price. It has a lovely shoei fit and feel but there are some limitations as I mentioned. However it seems to be a common feature with modern retro helmets ans not just shoei, so I’ve read. A case of style over substance in some cases, and I think the general attitude is that it’s just a given that this is the case- which as a consumer I wasn’t too happy with. So just a heads up if you are looking at a modern retro helmet that this may be the case. I’d be interested to see how this fairs in the summer. I guess it will be riding with the visor completely open due to ventilation. We will see. Good luck with the search, take care.

    I was in the market to replace my old Bell Bullett and was ready to hit the button on this lid - reduced to £303 on a Black Friday promotion. I'm glad I checked your review first Toni. The ventilation concerns and the lack of ratcheted visor positions are dealbreakers for me I'm afraid. The revised Bell Bullitt's are supposedly improved with a more comfortable fit, so I may give them another try. Top work Toni, ride safe pal.

    I've had the Glamster for about a year (June 2020).The clear shield that came with the helmet at the time was thin, flimsy and easy to scratch. Shoei has released a new version of that shield that is much more robust (CPB-1V) that has a recessed section for the pinlock to sit in so it doesn't come in contact with the gasket. I had to buy the new version as the scratches on the original shield were becoming a hazard. I'm very happy with the new shields (clear and tinted) but Shoei should have recalled the helmets and given a new version to people with the old version. As far as the warning on the Pinlock Evo regarding daytime use only, it's really only for legal purposes as my other non shoei helmet that came with a Pinlock had the same exact warning. I also have the Ex Zero, and while it's a great helmet, I wear it in the summer and only in low bug areas (city vs mountains). I like the low profile of the Glamster, but both the Glamster and the Ex Zero really require me to pull the straps out with a lot of force when I remove my head or they just rip my ears off.

Mine doesn’t seem to touch, when I lift the visor it is very very close, in points, I mean almost touching, but it doesn’t actually make contact... but very very close. But the pinlock is installed by us the consumer, and being so very close, it could be it just needs a small adjustment to clear the visor... but yes it is very very close and in some cases I could see that I may touch.

I generally review items I buy from a riders perspective, and as I e only just purchased the glam dyed and the ex zero I’m unlikely to be buying another helmet soon. Looking at the scorpion online ice wise they a a relatively cheap helmet, so I wouldn’t expect too much in terms of being great performance in top end spectrum of helmets, but they seem fairly priced for what they are. A few observations that I did not find mentioned: I have a pair of polarized sunglasses. Combined with the pinlock, you get all kinds of weird colours, the asphalt becomes purplish, especially the tar snakes ( they do stick out, though ). Also the view into car's front window gets completely blocked, as if they had chromed windshields. I reckon this is not shoei specific, but as you said you can not really use the helmet without pinlock on colder days. For those who wear glasses, I found an anti fog cloth that keeps the glasses fog free for a couple of hours, so applied before the ride, it usually lasts throughout without the need for reapplying. The brand is called "FOOGY".

    Mine was supplied with a clear pin lock so no issues there. I have had an issue with the top seal and the pin lock catching, have broken two clips (replaced by shoei both times) think it is a floored design.

    Hi. Yes mine was supplied with the clear pin lock too, but it’s advised not to wear it at night, and you know how difficult it it to get it in an out so it’s impractical to expect the rider to do this all the time. TBH I have t ridden in this much I opt for the ex zero over this generally so I haven’t got a long term use opinion, so your experience with the clips is very interesting, thanks so much for sharing 👍

    In Malice's Wake Official hi. You can open the visor slightly, but it will flip up or down if going at medium speeds. Also the visor sits right on the eyeline so it is distracting. • @ToniReviews

    @ToniReviews

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi adivanpersie89. I’ve not personally ridden with the bell, so my opinion would be coming from an untested point of view. What I would say is styling wise it’s obviously aimed at the same modern retro audience and the glamster, although with a slightly more edgy ‘storm trooper’ esque styling. The bell is significantly cheaper than the shoei, but that could just be down to the weight of the brand rather than build quality or performance. I would say if you have ridden with bell before and it suits your head shape etc give it a try. Personally after many years of various helmets I’ve found shoei to be the best for for me, and I’d also go for a more mid to high end helmet iver a cheaper one. Hope this helps, let me know if you buy or test the bell 👍

    Hey. Yep absolutely! I’ve owned this for over a year. It’s doesn’t lock out. It has a semi partial middle point it sort of rests on, but you couldn’t ride with it like that as it snaps shut. It’s more of a stylistic helmet. Great shoei feel and weight nd looks, but not practical if you are a serious everyday or mileage rider. More of a pop to the cafe on a Sunday helmet, and make sure you get home before dark or you will have to remove the pinlock too. That’s the importance of channels like this. You get real honest reviews and discussions from people who fork out their own hard earned cash.

It’s a lovely helmet, I mean it’s a shoei and you can definitely feel the shoei quality, however it does have a few drawbacks and at that price it’s just a bit of a disappointment. But saying that I think many of the full face retros suffer with function v design. So it’s a case of do you want to spend the money and compromise for the overall aesthetic? Or do you want to sacrifice the look and go for a great functioning helmet? Anyway. Did you try to remove the scincurtain to improve ventilation or decrease fogging ? Maybe this headvent is just designed to subtly extract the natural heat of your head. Anyway, now we have the glamster 6 to meet new regulations. It's even more expensive. I wonder if something has change to the ventilation design ? It sure looks the same on the outside. I have a bell bullit and it also has his issues. It seems that retro means compromise... Maybe next time I'll go for something like a Shubert C5 without the graffics it looks rather 'neutral'

    Just seen this review after buying mine a few weeks back. Couple of points (if you still own the lid?). You can have the visor open a crack if you just push it past the detent or don't lock it when you pull it down, I filter with it like that all day in London and it stops it steaming up. Also, never noticed the pinlock while riding, I've done about 300 miles in it so far, mostly in the dark. Worst bit about the lid for me is the catch on my clutch hand, It's London I never sit in neutral.

  • @ToniReviews

    @ToniReviews

    3 жыл бұрын

    Diggory Rush Yea you can push the visor open a smidge but if riding I found it flips up or down with wind it doesn’t stay in that position securely (for me anyway). Also the point at which is sits seems to be right in the eye line. The pin lock is less of a problem in cloudy overcast weather (although still visible). When sun comes out or it gets dark it becomes more of an issue. You made some interesting points so thanks so much for sharing. It’s always handy to have others perspectives so that people can read and make their own minds up. Thanks 🙏

    hmm maybe its a pinlock issue on all helmets. I have a Harley Davidson Boom Audio which is identical to the Sena Momentum and the Pinlock visor was so bad at night with the oncoming lights and street lights, Brake lights etc. I had to remove the insert and chuck it back in the box.

  • @ToniReviews

    @ToniReviews

    2 жыл бұрын

    Totally agree. It’s a pinlock issue that causes the reflection problem. But the ventilation in th helmet is so bad that without a pinlock insert you would be fogged up in seconds, so a design flaw in the helmet itself I think. Pinlock do actually say in the product usage leaflet you get in the box, that it isn’t to be used at night and to remove it, but as you know the thing is fiddly to instal, highly sensitive and there’s no way this is coming in and out each time you ride and the light starts to fall. Totally agree with your experience. I rode on a frosty evening with the visor up, just because I was getting a headache from the car light reflecting in my eyes. Thanks for sharing this. Hi Ethan. Yes it’s a shame, but from what I’ve read I think most modern retro helmets seem to favour style over substance. For the money there are definitely better options out there, but they probably won’t offer the same retro sleek, so it’s really what compromise you are willing to make. Interesting review, I bought a Glamster about six months ago, complete with supplied Pinlock (with no daytime user only warning). I can't say I've had a problem with ventilation but I almost never clip the visor shut, so I have a tiny crack at the bottom which probably helps. I can feel air coming through the vent above the opening, but only after a haircut, a month or so of hair growing, so it's closer to your length and I can't tell if it's open or closed. Also I ditched the chin curtain following Ryan Fortnine's video on CO2 build up. What I do have is the horrible whistling noise with the visor open whilst a friend with a Glamster has none. Comparing the two, he seems to have an earlier completely flat visor, whilst mine has the molded recess for the Pinlock. Why this would make a difference I don't know, but I've just ordered an aftermarket photochromic visor for mine (without recess), we'll see if it changes things.

  • @ToniReviews

    Hi Alex many thanks for sharing. The warning on the daytime only use is in very very very small print in the pinlock instructions. real;ly small. RE the air circulation, even after a fresh ahircut and skin fade at the back ive not noticed any airflow, and the fog on the visor is testimony to that too. I live the aesthetic of the lid and the fit, but its really not that great a useable all weather helmet and especially for the price tag. Very interesting to hear your swap on the visor. Look forward to hearing how that goes. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing. That’s interesting to hear about the hedon and the aria. In comparison I haven’t yet had the go aster in the rain so couldn’t comment. But yes I agree they are very pricey and it would be good to be able to test ride such a pricey purchase.

    @@ToniReviews I have a arai axces 3 which I use through the winter but it leaks like crazy when it rains and I've heard good things about the glamster in the rain. I'm considering the glamster or the nxr as a commuting helmet . Have you used the glamster in the rain and are you still having ventilation issues?? 🙏🏼🤙🏼

    Great review. I considered the Glamster but went to a cheaper Torc T1.

    @@ToniReviews My newest helmet. 1st ride was in a wet snowstorm, gotta get vaccinated at all costs. Wet snow, the visor had heavier problems than fogging which was kinda light, snow clamping on the visor was really scary. It is comfy, not overly noisy like all retro styled helmets, the 4 vents each operating independently are working well but only the chinbar ones can be manipulated with gloves on. Sizes do run a bit large, I would advise to not order online if possible, try it on first. It is my second Torc helmet, got the first one 7 years ago and I think they are really good helmets on the cheap price side. The T1 is ECE and DOT, fiber not plastic.

    Hey ! Nice vid. I hesitate between this and the hedon heroine racer. I felt more confortable and safe in the glamster though

    I must admit I bought my first shoei (the ex zero) and it is simply the best helmet. Since owning 2 shoei helmets I don’t think I would buy another brand. The fit and comfort is excellent. This model does however have some draw backs as I mentioned. But fit comfort and build quality are excellent

    i bought one and I find it really noisy from 80 MPH upwards. I could not wear it if I was touring and riding 6 hours a day

    Yes I agree although it’s considerably quieter than my ex zero, by now where near as quiet as my hjc.for long journeys it’s probably not the best choice I agree. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Right after watching your vlog I was a little sceptical,as my glamster fits well ,good vision ,good quality ect,but what I will say is that I’ve had a “smere” on my pin lock visor, & removed & cleaned it several times, I now realise it’s a reflection of my snout . 🥴 . Tidy review FairPlay.

    Lol 😆 thanks for sharing. Yes you do get the reflection from the pic lock and if you remove it completely you will find that the helmet steams up without it. Made me laugh thanks for sharing
