My favorite part of this chapter is the little bits of character writing we got for a lot of different characters. Thundercracker feeling empathy for the captured autobots, Shockwave nearly scrapping ravage without second thought, and above all, wheeljack’s reaction to ratchet’s death actually made me tear up, which I did not expect at all from this book. Each issue I wish they just kept going forever, can’t wait for more

I really appreciate the consistantly different speech bubbles on many of the characters with more unique sounding voices. Astrotrain's speech bubbles had me instinctually hearing his tinny-echoey G1 voice completely unconciously

I'm really liking what DWJ is doing with Beachcomber so far as well. It's really compelling stuff!

It’s nice to see Beachcomber again. The way DWJ depicts him here is fascinating. Plus the characterizations for all the bots have been spot on so far. And Shockwave and Soundwaves contrasting views makes for an interesting dynamic. Man, I can’t wait to see how this arc ends.

This arc has been all escalations hopefully we can chill afterwards (I doubt this), and my word is this the creepiest Shockwave in Transformers. I feel Corona is killing it here really seems to fit this ascetic for this book being allot of emotions to the bots.

I think this is where GI Joe Issue 1 will pick up from once it’s out in November, Scarlett and Destro will be there own plots leading up to the mainline ongoing series where we will finally see what the humans think of a giant metal planet showing up in the sky and what the Joes + Cobra plan to do about the Transformers :)

@@Moonbase3 with the way the release schedule is we have 2 more issues of Transformers, that will probably wrap up this second story arc, and enough time to finish up both Scarlett and Destro before issue 1 drops. The stars are aligning 🙌🏻 I’m so ready to see more of the EU’s Earth and how mankind responds to learning about Transforming robot aliens! Beach-dude wasn't fully wrong about not activating his fellow Autobots. Even if he brough them back, Earth is a house glass compared to Cybertron, everything is fragile, from humans to animals life, adding some fact that humankind would be understandably terrified of their presence and be labeled as global enemies.

Beachcomber was actually 100% right. He just didn't realize he would be the Autobot to cause ruination to Earth!

Sadly I was sorta afraid of something like this happening, I'm really curious how they're going to square this with the G.I. Joe titles where the Transformers aren't supposed to be public knowledge yet. I don't think it's gonna ruin the books or anything but I definitely think Johnson needs to put in a time skip at some point (Maybe we'll get it after issue 12) Or maybe they'll retcon the Six Month gap Duke had or something.

Yeah, I'm definitely wondering how it all fits together and whether or not it'll make sense in the end. Hopefully the editors and writers aren't playing it too fast and loose and that they have a plan in place. It would put a damper on things if there were continuity issues like that so early on, but like you said, it wouldn't necessarily ruin the books. Still, I'd prefer that they have those details locked in.

At this point can we just fix Ravage, it’s been 10 issues. I’m afraid they’re going to replace him with Ratbat or Buzzsaw.

you got this review up fast. I am really enjoying this iteration of Shockwave being a giddy mad scientist, everything he does(in his mind) is done to help the Deception causes. the experimentation of Jazz and Cliffjumper for adverts effect from the new planet their on, recycling Ravage so Soundwave can get a better recordicon and his quick and eager use of Pink Alchemy(or this universe equivalent). I wonder how the other Autobots are going to react to seeing Beachcomber and then learning about his decisions he took years ago. On that thin about time scales I thing I have an underrating on how why early issues say the war last a few hundred years but current issues say it been going longer, Optimus had the ark goo off early into the war while the war raged on and on while they were away. Like the dichotomy of Optimus and Elita have in this continuity like Shockwave's reinterpretation only Elita has ben on the back foot the entire time Optimus has been away. I am really interested in who the world will react to seeing a Cybertron pop into their view. I also had an idea on what cold happen to Cybertron is that it ends up teleported to an unknown location causing a friction for the Autobots on not know where they home is if its even still in one piece.

Also the recordicons being built by Soundwave is such a cool and unique detail that I'm surprised (to my knowledge) hasn't been done before

Yeah, there's some oddness and questions in terms of the in-universe chronology, that's for sure. But it seems like your order would make the most sense for what we've seen so far.

You forgot to mention Astrotrain's "sad, but true" comment. I personally don't know how much I like that. It makes the TF more "grey" with the baddies not all completely bad, but especially if some of the good guys branch off from Optimus' lead

I was really bummed about Ratchet last issue. He has always been such an important and more interesting character in the different comics. But Wheeljack’s reaction to his death was something I hadn’t even thought about. That part got to me a bit. It’s one of those things that perfect sense and should be a bit of a no-brainer if you know their character dynamic, but the execution is everything. The character writing/interactions/dialogue by DWJ is truly what is making this series something special so far in my opinion. It continues to impresses. That Prime and Elita scene was also amazing.

Losing Ratchet was a big bummer, but I agree with you, the way DWJ handled that moment with Wheeljack was top notch!

There’s something that struck out to me while reading this…this is issue 10 yet I don’t think I’ve felt like the pacing has been rushed or too slow. Which amazes me, most other comics might have a pacing issue with it being either too slow or too fast but so far the emerging universe has been chugging along smoothly getting us excited. I like the backstory of Beachcomber, it feels right to bring up the fact that a bot could literally be chucked out of the spaceships, it’s not something I think has really have been delved into, only other character I can think of that had a similar backstory was WildWheels in cyber verse who ended up landing on Earth during the Wild West after he got sent out of the Ark. I also really enjoy how his character is really being delved into here unlike G1, like you said the fact that he could’ve made the war worse but yet you understand his decision is really neat, and super fits the character (which this comic series seems to never have trouble with) I also think maybe their trying to set something up with him and Spike? Also MAN I’m so happy cliff and jazz are alive for right now (and Ravage too!) was so worried they were scrap metal after the last issue, also this issue really loved looking at the dynamics of characters lol, Jazz and Cliff, Prime and Elita, Soundwave and Shockwave, onslaught and brawl too I guess lol. And must say I’m kind of glad they revealed that mystery boy as Ultra Magnus and didn’t pull a fast one and say it was someone else, I feel like if someone else was writing they definitely would’ve changed the character to give everyone a sense of surprise after people heavily theorized it was Mags, but instead we were actually proven we were right which was neat. (Although I do wonder how Elita managed to carry Magnus since he’s quite big even in the state he’s in) Overall good issue like always (somehow but hey I ain’t complaining!) Art is still beautiful. And I love what they’re setting up with maybe not everyone standing alongside Optimus. Who knows maybe Elita will do something reckless and disobey OP and like, blow up the base and a big part of the ocean or something.

Yeah, they really could have pulled something out of nowhere just to mess with us on the Magnus thing, but I'm glad they didn't. To your point about Elita carrying him, I'm wondering if he's a little smaller in this continuity. Though, Elita is pretty strong - she tossed Optimus around pretty easily last issue, after all!

To answer your question she is an incredibly powerful robot. Strength in female bots scales with their Male counterparts.

Beachcomber could’ve selectively reactivate the Autobots. I’m wondering, what was the point of rescuing Magnus alive? It’s great that she reunited with the others, but they lost more Autobots than saved, and they might lose Jazz and Cliff. Jetfire is nowhere mentioned! Poor guy must be stuck underwater!

Speaking of Ultimate Doom, I wonder if the comic will introduce Doctor Arkeville, the scientist who partnered with Starscream and was later made into a cyborg during a failed attempt to save the Earth from destruction. In the cartoon, he just disappeared from the show and his fate was never explored.

I think you really hit on something that makes this series so strong - there's just a breadth of personalities and motivations for the characters in this series that is really engrossing. Certainly makes me care about all of them, even the bad guys. :)

Yet another banger, not just from Johnson, Corona & co. but our very own MB3! Of course the moment that got me the most was Wheeljack learning about Ratchet’s death. Ratchet is another favorite of mine, and to see Wheeljack snap like that and have to walk away is heartbreaking. I think we can crown Shockwave as “The Ultimate DICK” as of this issue. One, for pureeing those poor marine creatures, two for nearly inventing Kentucky Fried Ravage (does not include drink). On the subject of Beachcomber and not preserving peace, if I’m to make a Star Wars comparison (as I often do), during the New Jedi Order book series from the Expanded Universe Han and Leia’s son Jacen takes a similar stance at the start. While his siblings Jaina and Anakin fight the invading Yuuzhan Vong, Jacen argues that the Jedi must stay out of the war entirely or risk the dark side. It gets to a point where in Edge of Victory II, Han straight up tells Jacen to shut the fuck up and help or get off his ship. I think a similar thing will happen with Beachcomber. It’s not enough to want peace and not fight, as there are those like the Yuuzhan Vong or Decepticons who will sacrifice entire worlds if given the free rein to do so. Sometimes to maintain peace, you must fight those who want war. Anyhow, fantastic analysis as always MB3!

I agree with you in that I think this is a likely path/outcome for Beachcomber. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up sacrificing himself to save Earth during this arc, but maybe DWJ will let the guy survive this. Guess we'll see. Great comment as per usual, man!

It’s interesting to see how decipicons leadership is looking very fragile. They definitely need Megatron back before autobots exploit it

I didn’t even realize they changed the artist, they looks almost identical in style, still it’s lovely to see how well done the art and overall writing is. Issues 11 & 12 will definitely top 5 & 6 I bet, each arc is 6 issues iirc so it’ll be interesting to see how things play out.

I get where Beachcomber is coming from but yeah, he has done goof! Like he could of easily drag the Decepticon bodies out of the Ark, buried them outside and then get Talatraan one reactivated to repair the Autobots. Also I find it ironic that eventhought Soundwave reconnect with Shockwave but it turns out that was a bad idea as even he doesn't fully sided with him! I mean Soundwave plan was better than Starscream but it's clear that eventhought they are Decepticon, they are not fully align with each other when compared to the Autobots! Well ok they got their own issues but not to the point of backstabbing one another!

There's definitely tons of interesting character work and different dynamics in this series. Can't wait to see how that tension between Shockwave and Soundwave develops!

Why do writers keep on making Elita one a character ideologically incompatible with Optimus? IMO, they should compliment and understand each other and fill each other's weaknesses. For example, Elita should be the voice of reason when Optimus wants to suicidally go back, but also comfort him when he's beating himself up for doing so.

There's a lot in this issue that really reminds me of Last Bot Standing, essentially the last story of the IDW run. Beachcomber choosing not to reactivate the Autobots is similar to Rodimus' choice to let the species die off and his regret that their war consumed the universe. AND it even has the plotline of mincing organic life for energy. I wonder if they were aware of this given that Last Bot Standing while not released all that long ago was kind of a niche title.

That's a great point. I didn't make the connection, but you're right, there are similarities. I'm inclined to think it was a coincidence as DWJ has indicated that he hasn't read much of the IDW runs, but I guess you never know.

I like how there's no words/captions for the first four pages while retelling Beachcomber's story. It's nice to see how in this comic the Decepticons are often REGRETFUL of their actions. Oh for Pete's sake, let Soundwave heal his damn cat! Also fuck you Shockwave for trying to recycle him. Heh, seems Ol One-Eye had a Magnus moment. As in "This is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen... Alright, give me the bomb" considering the whole "Ooh, whales are awesome! Okay mulch them" Cliff and Jazz paired up again just like in TFTM on Moonbase One and in Fall Of Cybertron Also not the first Shockwave to deal with a Cliffjumper, again in FOC but also Prime (Which is technically the same characters but The Aligned Continuity is kinda messy) Brawl may be okay! Uh oh, Onslaught may report possible dissent to Shockwave. Oh great, Shockwave is doing a The Ultimate Doom, or Dark Of The Moon for those who only know the movies (which was BASED on The Ultimate Doom) Why does Cybertron look like a maw? "Oh Shockwave, you problematic arse" - My brother once i'd finished reading this issue

On Joepedia I added Militia Dude to the Transformers Humans character page, since he returns in this issue and still gets dialog. I was wondering who this second human in the Autobot's base was. Had to reread 9 to figure it out. He's there, and then the story leaves him in the dust.

Man, if we remove the transformers, the peak writing, the epic moments, and the humans evolved with this story, what would we have? Amazing panels showcasing animals, I know it's weird, but this whole run is secretly Earth propaganda, y'know it's gorgeous when even Shockwave finds "beauty" in whales, in an odd sense, it gives us an idea of what's on stake. And when you put the transformers, the peak writing and the humans evolved in the story You have not only a great transformers run that is arguably better than most pieces of animated, film and playable media, but does better an exel where many other shows and movies failed I'm not well versed in the comic industry, but I'm sure it's ""cheaper"" to maje comics than a film, and to have it better than the films really shows the love and investment the people have working on this. The man who is now drawing for the new run has them hands, that shot of Cybertron and earth with the stars around them and the beam of energy is cool as all hell 20/10

If the Autobots are to have any chance at all in the next big showdown, they’ll definitely need reinforcements. Shockwave and Soundwave have number while 2 of Primes best are prisoners and Magnus is in not shape to fight. Maybe if Beechcomber links up with the Autobots and Hotrod along with Springer make it to earth then just maybe there’s a shot here. My personal guess, it will be a close fight no matter what but when the Autobots are about to win they may be interrupted by a surprise appearance by Megatron who’ll steal a big win from the good guys, and he’ll probably get his arm back from Prime.

Good analysis of the situation here, and I like your prediction for Megatron's reappearance. You just know he's going to rip his arm off of Prime once he sees it! The Autobots may get Beachcomber, but you're right, it's definitely not enough. They were already at a disadvantage, so now they need some heavy hitters. Hot Rod would be cool. It would also be cool to see something unexpected like the Dinobots!

I wonder how being so close to Cybertron will change the dynamic of things. Technically any bots left on Cybertron could go to Earth now or vice-versa. So the rest of the Combaticon team? They could link up with the Earthbound squad. It will be interesting to see how they handle it though because I get the impression that the author would rather introduce characters slowly and give them development as opposed to just throwing lots of bots into the mix at once (which I believe is a great way of going about it), but being so close to Cybertron definitely makes me question how this aspect will be handled.

It’s pretty clear that thundercracker is gonna switch off of the decepticons eventually but I wonder if he’s just gonna become a third party or an autobot.

Hate to be that guy, but there's a lot that is not all good with this issue. First, pretty much everything is Beachcomber's fault. By not helping, he allowed the situation that has occurred to occur- then he doubled down on it. But that's just a minor point in comparison to the big thing. Gotta get to the confirmation of Ultra Magnus, the disappointment of Wheeljack and Elita-1 basically (probably rightfully) blaming Prime. The BIG PROBLEM. We are still 6 months away from Duke #1 -and that is absolutely a continuity conundrum they're going to have to fix, because this is a big problem in a shared, referential continuity. We HAVE NOT reached the 6 month mark - this is still DAYS after the awakening.

A couple of issues ago we discussed the break neck pace of the story, and it was largely due to there being no real narrative time break from issue one. We might be a week removed from Bumblebee's 'death', tops.. In Duke #5 Hawk shows Duke an image of Optimus Prime on drone surveillance from 'a few months ago', but Optimus Prime would simply not rate against a whole planet coming to Earth.

So Skybound has already screwed up their continuity in less than a year. In a previous issue they straight up stated that the war has only been going on for a couple centuries. I don't recall the issue but i do remember it being stated because I hated that they shortened everything. Now they go and basically retcon it to make it millions again...

I'm not really seeing much of a future for Shockwave past this arc. He's clearly going all out with his time in the sun but he just seems to raise the stakes to such an extent, that everyone else cannot leave him alive. The Autobots want him gone cause he's a maniac, Humanity needs him gone because he's the best chance at destroying the world and even the Decepticon's aren't too keen, I bet Soundwave or Megatron (or even Starscream?) will have to off him to reassert dominance over the cons

I've been wondering if it's going to be a Decepticon that takes him down. I feel like there's enough character work that's been done already for Thundercracker or Soundwave to be the one to pull the trigger. If they repair Magnus in time, I could see him wanting to get even with Shockwave as well. Or maybe Optimus will just be pushed to his limit.

This issue went full Dark of the Moon which I'm mixed on it.
