Shocking footage of a snow storm in Europe and Canada! People's houses are not habitable!
A very cold Arctic air mass is found over most of British Columbia, bringing heavy snowfalls and extreme cold temperatures. Stay tuned for the latest weather forecasts, road closures and airport delays.
Severe cold hit much of the Lower Mainland on Wednesday after heavy snowfall suspended flights, clogged roads and halted ferry operations.
Environment Canada warns that temperatures in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley could fluctuate between -20 and -30°C due to severe frosts and strong winds.
The weather agency says the cold mass brought in by the Arctic front is expected to last until Thursday.
Drivers should continue to prepare for challenging driving conditions on snowy and icy roads throughout the South Coast and Vancouver Island.
The Department of Transportation closed a 110-kilometer section of the highway between Othello, east of Hope, and Merritt on Wednesday afternoon because sand applied to the roadway to provide vehicle traction was blown off the road by strong Arctic winds.
The Coquihalla section reopened to motorists early Thursday morning after winds eased and a maintenance contractor was able to build traction on the highway.

Since Wednesday, up to 2 meters of fresh snow has fallen in some areas of the Alps. Experts say these are record numbers that usually only happen every 20 years.
On Saturday night, some parts of the country experienced the coldest night of the whole winter, down to -15 degrees Celsius.
Snow in the Alps is not uncommon. According to statistics, Arosa expects the first snow to fall. The first snow in the main cities of Switzerland falls much later. Zurich has the earliest average date of first snow, followed by Bern, Basel and Geneva. However, these dates are averages.

the snow line is expected at an altitude of about 2000 meters. in some alpine regions, snow is expected at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,600 meters. 20 to 50 cm of fresh snow can fall in the Alps above 2000 meters

@@user-zy6rl8sf9k Доживем чуть чуть осталось.Хотя верно говорите.У меня жена 2 дня не дожила до прошлого нового года.Так что Новый Год отныне у меня совсем не праздник.А если уж совсем серьезно то сейчас мы уже несколько лет живем в период спокойного солнца.Вы наверно помните конец девяностых начало двухтысячных.Тогда бяли магнитные бури ,вспышки на солнце.В год доходило до 1000 вспышек.А сейчас до 100 не дотягивает.И понятно же что если костер сильно горит то и греет сильнее и наоборот.Вот сейчас как раз и наоборот.И естественно атмосфера остывает со всеми вытекающими последствиями.
Обыкновенная снежная зима с вьюгой и оледенением.

Canada is huuuge country; 7,000 Km from the eastern tip of Newfoundland to the western coast of Vancouver Island. Consequently a large variation of weather patterns is to be expected. In my home region the weather so far had been quite moderate with only one overnight low of -15 deg. C, and 4 to 6 inches of snow. Winds were not unusually strong.

This reminds me of the movie "Day after Tomorrow" - For more technically oriented & having better understanding of Climate Sciences, I would say, I think North Atlantic heating Conveyor Belt System called Gulf Stream, might be shutting down in a hurry, after exceptionally warm pre-summer & summer in those parts of the world heated by Gulf Stream and other systems. I had predicted this, around May-June (for Jan-Feb). But guess, it is shutting down early.
