Excellent footage and it's great to live in an area where people are so happy and helpful. I grew up in the Buffalo area but am so thankful I decided to build just 40 min north of the snow band. This video shows what can happen every year but while this happens the northern area got a dusting. It's amazing how the winds blow.

And when you consider the only reason they got all this snow, or why they didnt get double this- is the upper air jet stream, which if it changes path for ANY reason at all can bury a region in snow or cause crop destroying drought in a region that formerly enjoyed great crop growing climate. People don't have any idea how fragile that balance really is, and how little it would take to alter that jet stream's path permanently! Maps of Africa from the 1500s show big long rivers where the bone dry Sahara desert is to-day! it changed very rapidly for some unknown reason since the 1500s

@@robinm1729 well I drive a Subaru and with the Cross Climate 2 tires I’ve never gotten stuck, even driving though state-of-emergency blizzards where I could barely see the taillights of the car ahead of me. Lake effect snow has a different amount of moisture and packing. It's heavier and harder to get through even with snow tires. The problem is, it insulates and freezes the moisture on pavement to create ice. Put those three factors together during the storm and the results are in the video. When it's over, temperature and conditions change allowing easier removal and driving. JUST STAY PARKED.

As a result especially on the night everyone started to actually walk to the shops by foot and people actually started talking too each other in the queues, being sociable, not like in our self isolation of our cars beeping the horns at each other. It was like going back 50/60 years before everyone started using cars even for small a journey.

That's what I want to know. Nice vehicle for that nightmarish weather. I have had an Xterra, four wheel drive, and a Subaru Outback - which was amazing in the snow, and currently have a Tacoma, four wheel drive, and I don't think I'd be maneuvering too well with any of them. That must have been a pretty heavy vehicle.

Sounded like an old school Ram 2500 with a Cummins.

We were in a 2022 Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel. It was a truck we rented, chose it for the ground clearance. We also had a few days worth of supplies, tow ropes and shovels. Luckily we only needed the tow ropes when pulling out others.

This footage is amazing!! Incredibly well done!
I grew up in Florida, I've had the honor of training soldiers at Fort Drum, New York ( which if farther north than Buffalo) during one of these lake effect weather events and there was no pleasure in it.
If only we, too, in Kazakhstan would get such snow
Great coverage and awesome drone footage! Thanks!
