Shock Bracket Relocation - More Clearance XJ Jeep Cherokee - The Roadhouse

Rear axle shock brackets can hang up on all kinds of things on the trail. The idea is to get as much stuff, up, and out of the way. Lift kits help with getting the body up, and give you extra space for big tires, but there is other things you can do to help avoid hanging up when you're out there.
These Brackets get rid of one more thing in the way, and give you a bit more down travel with your shocks. just be careful about bottoming them out. Good bump stops help with that....
You can find these brackets here:

    So, your upward travel is still the same, while giving you more downward travel, and more clearance. Very cool.

    Absolutely fantastic show guys👍 I did this too the dana35 and then three weeks later changed out the 35 for the 8.25 that's under the XJ now. I did however do this modification too the 8.25 while it was on jack stands. I used the old bracket just flipped upside down. Thanks for another kick ass show🍻 cheers.

    the cherokee xj's are so popular and expensive in my country that the cheapest you can ever find will go for around 3.4 grands and for one without failures it will cost you about 5.2 grands ... wish i could buy them as cheap is they are in the US and as always i love your contents very entertaining ! Hey Guys, I have a STOCK Height XJ and I'm wanting to LIFT it 3.5" with the RE Kit. I'm trying to be low budget and I don't want to have to buy NEW SHOCKS for the lift as I just bought new shocks for my stock Ride Height. If I did this MOD will it give my current shocks enough room? In other words, has anyone ever measured STOCK Length SHOCKS to those needed for a 3.5" lift. How much longer are they?

  • @PabstBoys

    @PabstBoys

    8 жыл бұрын

    Well. you'll never bottom them out, but they'll limit your downward travel. Never measured for that, but the worst that could happen is you blow your shocks and have to buy new ones. I'd say giv'er for now till you can afford replacements. Cheers Bud!

    In the zooooooneee - tommy nice work guys, but wouldnt it be more efficient for the shocks if you positioned it closer to the center of the axle; where it is closer to being perpendicular to the axle itself? but it would also make it alot stiffer though, i think

  • @PabstBoys

    @PabstBoys

    8 жыл бұрын

    The opposite actually. would be over leveraged and make it rocky side to side. The other problem would be that the shock would be too short to fit perpendicular. Good question though. Cheers Bud!!

  • @TheJoeyfishy
    @TheJoeyfishy7 жыл бұрын

    What if you put the bracket on the top of the axle? So kind of just flip it and weld it on the top instead of on the bottom? I feel like that'll give it even more clearance, the only issue I see is possible bottoming out the shock if you have a lot of up travel.

    Question: Why does the manufacturer put the shock brackets so far down? On my Land Cruiser it's similarly so low. What's the advantage?

  • @PabstBoys

    @PabstBoys

    8 жыл бұрын

    Stock ride hight is a lot lower. you can fit a much longer shock in a stock vehicle with the bracket down so low. With our lift, the leafs are nearly flat at ride hight so we dont anticipate much up travel, but would like more suspended down travel. This mod allows that. Hope that answered your question...

    If you do this your shocks will bottom out too early limiting your up travel and damaging the shock internals.

  • @MSpeedThree

    @MSpeedThree

    4 жыл бұрын

    blackened 1 in that case your shocks will be too short for the application and will be at full extension before you reach full spring articulation. This will negate your travel gain from the lift and put stress on the shock internals eventually destroying the shock. Long story short you need the correct shock for the application or you will run into problems. This video = bad advice.

  • @MSpeedThree

    @MSpeedThree

    blackened 1 moving the shock mount that much with the setup they have will essentially make your rear suspension not work. You’ll have about an inch and a half of up travel before it bottoms out. I hope you do this mod to your Jeep.
