From a personal experience two things helped a lot to heal shin splints 1. Vitamin D 2. Barefoot shoes for running ExPLANATION: VIT D is needed for the bones and muscles to repair and rebuild, and this is a long term process, every time you run you damage your bones and muscles (wear and tear) and bit and they need to recover, vitamin D and Calcium is crucial for that ongoing recovery process Barefoot shoes allow your feet to move naturally and freely like they are supposed to do! without interfering with your natural bio-mechanics.

Great video. Lots to take away from this. A lot of doctors and physio's only look at the shin itself, rather than the whole body as one. Thanks for sharing.

I am really glad I got to see this video. Thanks a lot for that. It was really informative and explains everything about the problem. Not only throws exercises without any reason for that. I am really glad I could find my problem is really stretching the ankle. Thanks Doctor!!

Shin splints happen when your legs are not used to amount of stress you throw on them. Lower the milage, slow down the runs and run easy pace. If it hurts a lot, make 2 week pause and start running slowly and up milage very slowly

I'm not sure... but I think I have Compartment syndrome. Can I fix it by using the stick or is the only way to fix it to go through surgery?

If you drink whey protein that a good start. If not rice, pea, pumpkin are superior to soy.

Regularly do ice pack for 20 min and buy a foam roller for calf stretching, by a mini band for anterior shin muscles and do ankle twist with it, buy a good pair of shoes, run on grass or sand rather than concrete, run slowly without go out fully sprint and do proper warm up and stretch after run and reduce weight by bodyweight training like burpee

Hello Doctor. I am 22 years old and I am in the U.S. Army. It is common to to go on ruck marches for training. Rucking is when we carry a special backpack called a ruck sack that must weigh 35 lbs. Normally we ruck for two miles, but after like the first 100 yards I get anterior shin splints. My best guess is that it is due to all the weight. Another thing I noticed is that when I am pushing myself to keep up by walking faster my toes slap the ground. When my toes slap the ground I cannot make normal strides, and I give really short steps. Additionally after our ruck march I do not have a pain afterwards, so it only happens during our ruck marches. What can I do to get rid of them for good?
