11:39 BTW, the war is not even remotely close to sorta kinda halfway done. There's still, I think, 10 more volumes of the light novel, and I've never heard of another threat beside Legion. I have read far enough to know the worst is yet to come.

These last 2 episodes were worth waiting 3 months to watch! No matter how many times I re-watched this, Lena's speech, "I'll never run from the war!" "I think that's something to be proud of" it all still makes me cry... Such raw & powerful emotional story is hard to find these days!

The way the portrayed Shin's emotional and mental state during and right after the battle with Kiri is PERFECT. His "vision" narrowing down until Lena walked into the frame bringing back the light and a new purpose to keep moving forward.

Lena said what Shin had wanted to hear, at the moment he needed to hear it the most. 😭 I'm sorry Kurena, you never stood a chance.

Episode 22 and 23 of 86 are definitely both in my top 10 favourite anime episodes of oat. The build up to both was perfect and the payoff was beautiful🤧from the amazing osts,characters and story, this show is one of my favourites.

I love Shin involuntarily saying "Major" after realising it's her, then catching himself and turning off his comms device. The last episode is something special, man.

In the first part of the episode, that is what PTSD and Survivors Guilt is like for Shin. The feeling of being left behind and no one will remember him when he dies, that feeling really hits you in the gut or almost like a knife. But when you saw the feet of someone stepping in to save him it could be Lena or it could be anyone, but in the end it was Lena who reached them and was able to save him, even though she didn’t know who he was. Lena never forgot about them, she never forgot about them and Shin. The piece of music, “Voices of the Chord,” from Hiroyuki Sawano just hits you and makes you cry along with Shin when Lena told him that he survived and you should be proud of it. That right there is validation that Shin was and will not be forgotten. I cried 😭😭😭 when that OST hit at the right moment when Shin cried. And thank you for having his friends and comrades surviving, I couldn’t take it if they were dead too. We are going to have ending where the main characters survive and not dying.

I love how everyone knows that Shin has a crush on Lena except for Shin and Lena. The big brass tease him about it, cause he just seems so emotionless all the time. They find it adorable. XD

Shin and Lena's interaction was the first communication between the Republic and the Federacy, which means that the exchange will probably make it into some future history book or documentary. If Shin and Lena end up together, their future children will be teased about it for sure.🤣

Just an added info (Although I am sure someone has already told you this during the live reaction), the bed of spider lilies is the same area where Shin and team said their goodbyes to Lena in episode 9 of the first cour. So this is the border to the republic which is why Lena was able to arrive in the area since San Magnolia is now an open field (no more walls to cave them in) due to the invasion. That call back and remembering episode 17 (Where Shin was again assigned the spearhead mission and his survivor's guilt is worsening), that same field is also shown separating them ( a call back of their separation in episode 9). Plenty of symbolism and callbacks really for the whole series. I really hope they continue it with the same passion.

I honestly enjoyed the idea of using the spider lilies to symbolize the end as well as the new beginning. The coming end of Shin's predicament and the beginning of his new reason to live. Not merely just to symbolize death and separation.

from the story telling, animation, voice acting and ost, this show was absolutely stunning istg

The whole thing is in their fight with the Morpho they ended up fighting their way all the way back into Republic territory. The irony is back in Ep 9 when Spearhead disappeared for good from Lena’s Para-RAID range, they were in a spider lily field; and Lena and Shin end up reuniting in a spider lily field - in fact, it very well could be the same spider lily field.

The scene where Shin is alone and about to be attacked is depicted in CinemaScope with black bands at the top and bottom, and the area becomes larger until Shin is alone. Still, I ended up stepping over my black boots. It was Lena who saved Shin from loneliness, his black belt changed to a white belt, and eventually the belt disappeared. That's a great explanation. Also, the contrast between Shin's "Please remember" fireworks on the night of the Revolutionary Festival and Lena's "I told you not to forget" when Morpho's remains are scattered is really wonderful.

86 is one of my favorite series of all time, and I think it's also one of the best. What a beautiful, tragic, dramatic, romantic, and decidedly human story.

A true masterpiece this episode was absolute peak!

Lena wasn't out of position, Shin chased Morpho all the way to the border of the 86th district.

The black borders boxing Shin into darkness. Lena's boot stepped right over it. Brilliant.

The shot of Cyclops trying to convince Lena to not just trust the Federacy and getting so exasperated when she hands over her rifle cracks me up so much every time

I think my top complaint for three or four novels after where the anime ends was I want more Cyclops. I did eventually get it and it was great.

The photography and symbolism of this show are pieces of art.

just finished rewatching the series for the 6th time. i love how the anime just hit me right in the feels. especially the last 2 episodes

The shot at 6:43 like legit took my breath away when I first watched this. I love the visual direction with this show. You can tell this was a real passion project for the people who worked on it.

This and the last episode are absolutely peak. So glad others get to experience this series for the first time with all the emotions. episode 23 is a ride and can't wait to see your reaction.

This anime in my opinion is a masterpiece. I have never watched something that makes me feel emotional everytime i see it. Great reaction btw. Glad to have watched it here once again

I don't usually say this but... this anime is a MASTERPIECE!

Absolute masterpiece.... only 1 anime has hit this hard to me so far emotionally and thats "Your lie in April"... and honestly i dont think ill see a 3 episode finale as satisfying as this one. This show should be on goat's status and in production for more seasons.

It NEVER fails. When Shin's eyes widen because he hears the one voice he most missed hearing and thought had faded away forever....I cry. That's it. That moment might as well be Truck-kun exiting the feeling highway, with me standing on the off-ramp. This episode is top platinum tier storytelling, idgaf who has a disagreement with that.

When raiden tells Shin that no one is getting ahead of anyone... it shows that they knew exactly what Shin was going through. As always the writing on this show is superb.

Just cinematic gold....changing the aspect ratio to show shins emotions, making it smaller and smaller as shins despair grows and he looses his will to live .... only going full screen when he finds out that its lena. most of all shin found a new reason to keep living when lena tells him that he should be proud that he survived. the morpho was moving close to san magnolia territory since the gran mur was destroyed. It was lena who called the mortar strikes while shin was fighting the morpho in the last episode. Thats why lena was able to make it to where shin was. The federacy based their raid devices off the receivers taken from shin and his friends. so they by default had the settings to interface with the republic network. now only was shin close enough to be in range of it. As for the war being over or subsiding......well...

My favourite 86/10 Many times

I have heard some people say it was overly strong plot armor. I haven't read the story but based on me watching this is what I assumed. So snow witch dropped the ammo and used it to stop the legion advance and then found another way. Laughing Fox was just acting as a decoy, we saw kurena was already using shoot and move and we saw how slow the rail gun shot was as raiden and shin both were able to watch it fly. Raiden is the hardest to believe but we could believe that it hitting in a cone effect and the slow moving turret missed and the shockwave/emp took raiden out of the fight.

Last episode definition of masterpiece ❤️

I swear that 2 last episodes took more tears than all other ones.

The US military officer ranks go from lieutenant, to captain, then to major… so it’s like she lost rank lol (I’m sure for her military captain is higher than major and she got promoted, but still, feels weird from the perspective of someone in the military)
