My 8 25-year old Shimano TLDs get lots of hard use, and I like to service them regularly. This is an excellent video that illustrates the steps for disassembling, servicing and reassembling them. I highly recommend it for anyone who does his or her own reel service and wants to keep them humming offhshore.

thanks again dennis, I was able to take apart and service my reel with your help, I watched a few other videos where they used a hell of a lot more grease everywhere than you, not sure if that makes any difference, I pretty much just lubed the bearings and greased the shaft and cogs like you did in your vid, seems good to go!

Glad it helped and thanks for the feedback. You can use more grease, but it won't do any more good. It will just spin off and lay around in the case. Best wishes - Dennis

I do have one question. In this video you lightly grease the drag washer with Cal's. On a later TLD25 video you don't grease it. I just wanted to make sure I had that part right before I put back together.@@2ndChanceTackle

Check your presets. Do you have the rest of the reel working in free spool? Does it tighten up, but just not fully in the max drag position? That is usually an alignment issue on the reinstall of the lever.

Thank you for taking the time to make these vids. I just finished rehabbing 3 TLD 25's. They were in a sorry state, but are now ready to put back to use. Really helpful having this demonstration to reference throughout the process.

Very little can be done to restore UV damage. There are automotive polishes and waxes and Penn makes a rod and reel cleaner that will temporarily restore the shine, but it will need to be reapplied from time to time - Thanks for asking - Dennis

Great tutorial. One suggestion...if your not planning on re-spooling the reel after service, then should avoid touching the line with oily/greasey hands. Otherwise excellent.

I do not, but the service is essentially the same as the single speed. If you are going to do this, just get the schematic to note the differences. - Dennis
