I can't understand that someone can ignore the overhaul of such a quality reel. There are people who would genuinely like to have and maintain such a reel but don’t have the money to afford something like that. I can understand if the owner didn’t know how to fix the fault, but if he DOESN’T CARE AND IS NOT INTERESTED, then it’s sad. Great job done! 👏😊

Very interesting video :) in the last part you talk about “testing for the shims” before closing the main body of the reel? How do you do it and where did you exactly place them? Between the bearing and the gear? Did you make any video about it? Anyway thank you very much, I’m learning a lot from your videos

You're welcome and thanks for watching! Yes, the shims are usually between the bearing and the main gear on the left side where you see the handle in this video. Sometimes, when you service a reel, there can be tightness/looseness when you reassemble, so you may sometimes have to play with the number of shims to get the feel right. Don't throw away any that you may remove. My testing is after I close the body... been doing it long enough to tell if it'll need adjusting without putting the body screws in. See this video for some additional help: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKCgycmDiJCyfbw.html

Thanks for the video. I bought 3 old Stradic 6000FB’s and your video gave me the courage to service them myself. Question: on all three the rosswind block on the shaft had some play in it. Is this on purpose or should I tighten the two screws holding it on the shaft? Thanks!

You're welcome and thanks for checking out the video.... always love to hear when someone successfully gets the job done with the help of one of my videos! Great question! I don't believe there's there's a Stradic 6000FB, but the principles are the same. If my video was similar to your reel, then it's designed that way.... tightening the block cover screw won't do anything. It'll work fine with that slight play in it. However, if you wanted to reduce/minimize the play, you could add a shim or two under the white bushing at the bottom of the worm. If yo don't have any Shimano part #RD18199, you can also use the Daiwa 373-1302. All the above info is provided assuming your blocks, pawls and worms are fine. If your reel (or problem) is different than I addressed, please post a video of the problem you're having and posting the link here, so I can check it out. Thanks.

I recently changed the very noisy line roller bearing on my stradic fk and was told not to oil the bearing as its the quickest way to destroy it!! but I see videos of and they all seem to oil the line roller bearing. Could it be cos its a fixed bearing. Oil or not oil that is the question? Thanks and great videos

OMG frozen here, frozen there. The parts are partially corroded. The fishing reel in poor condition. That is the way, when the angler neglects their reels. No money for maintenance . I always replaced the ball bearings, they are not that expensive these days. But I understand, the customer wanted to keep old ball bearings to save money. Good job though, you made it bud. NICE! ;-) Did the line roller work well? Greetings from Germany - Jan.

Hi Jan. Yes, the line roller bearing was good on this one. Funny enough, it was the only one of 6 reels he submitted that was fine. I don't think it was a matter of no money for maintenance... rather the classic scenario of if the reel feels okay, then I'll keep fishing it, even if it's noisier than when I first bought it. I suspect many of them in the lot were never serviced before. I'll usually try to save the bearings, if at all possible, but these were all pretty far gone.... should have just replaced the lower pinion when I did the other bearings, rather than trying to reuse it. The upside was the drags in all his reels were pretty good and didn't need replacing.... I'm guessing he paid special attention to this area of the reels, but not others.
