Shifting Colors: USS Freedom's (LCS1) New Camouflage Paint Job
Ойын-сауық
It was once commonplace for the United States Navy to paint ships in camouflage paint schemes, a tradition since lost to history. USS Freedom (LCS 1) is the first surface combatant to sport the look since World War II. Take a look behind the scenes at the process involved in painting this great ship. Video produced by Aaron Hubner, COMNAVSURFPAC Public Affairs.

YYK Enterprises in San Diego camouflaged this.. Thumbs up to YYK Enterprises, Really good job, very professional !!
Very Nice Job SURPAC VIDEOGRAPHER AND PAO TEAM, CMC Kotz
I have always want sence my navy days to see a ship dazzle painted in the days before radar they put modern artist on commision to design the dazzle paint the consept was you would look at the horizon and be able to tell what was beside it looks so cool
At the risk of being waggish, Navy ships have been camouflaged since the war, just in overall haze gray, which matches the light sky. What you're referring to is *Dazzle* camouflage, or more officially pattern camouflage. Great video though!
Brilliant !
Good looking boat. You know I earned a coffee mug for making the psx700 sg coating they were spraying on. That paint is over 100$ a gallon and I get a mug..

Isn't that the way of it.
I would think they'd paint the deck dark blue like the sea to make it harder to see from a plane?
From Freedom onwards will the rest of the new ships get a paint job? :D
Although it does nothing for its Radar Signature, it will sure mess up the Port/Starboard/Fantail Lookouts on other Vessels.
Great video...well shot, great editing. I was less impressed by the actual camouflage pattern though. It's like a compromise between dazzle (which works well against visual rangefinders), and basic disruptive pattern. Unfortunately it's too big an object for such a simple disruptive pattern to work on, and it's not "crazy" enough to be dazzle. I'm sure though it's great for morale on the ship, which is always a plus. NB: This is NOT a comment re: the USN, merely an analysis of the cam pattern
I love my Navy!
that's going to be a pain in the tail for BM'S and deck seamen to maintain BUT IT LOOKS NICE
Looks cool but didn't they stop doing it because it did nothing for stealth of the ship. At least thats what I was told in my prehistoric days of sailing.
I have an idea.... disquise it as a cruise ship
SPACE FORCE NOW
And I thought painting the camo pattern on a 1/700 model ship is hard.
That's a different ship. This one is about LCS - Freedom.
should have "digitized" all of the edges.
then it will look like a commerse raider
Well if they did, showing it on youtube would defeat the point a bit =P
Earl Scheib would have done it $39.95!
Camouflage painting had to be common before the radars were invented to avoid precise visual recognition. After the radars were invented painting become useless. Now its a stealth ship and avoiding of visual recognition become important again.
so one dude with a can of spray paint paints the entire ship?
What a waste of my tax dollars and time in the service to provide you the freedom to say such filth. I pray you do not live in the USA. If you do, please leave if you dislike our Military. Go live where freedom is nothing but a dream. Try Afghanistan. Or Iraq. Hell, go live in North Korea. I'll be glad to buy your ticket for a ONE WAY trip.
I take this was the worst music you could find!
Both the Germans and Japanese entertained the idea of a US invasion that is documented fact. The Japanese did fight on American soil in Alaska. No matter how fleeting it was.. You really have no grasp of the facts only what you choose to believe. And I won't comment on what a soldier fights for because I am not one. Maybe you shouldn't either?
