@@OmegaQuinn - Well, there is an in universe explanation for this. Basically the only weapon that can successful summon it's first choice in wielder is the shield. The other weapons are unable to do this for various reasons and are thus forced to pick a backup option that comes with notable flaws. This isn't to say those backups can't become good heroes in the long run, but they have to overcome their flaws in order to do so.

Some thing the anime doesn't mention but its in the books. During the Heroes first conversation they find out Naofumi is the only one of them who wasn't killed in there own worlds right before being summoned. It adds a extra layer of distrust the other heroes have for Naofumi

@@levievil9220 Not lucky, it's something explained further down the road. *SPOILER AHOY!* See, all four Cardinal Weapons are actually sentient spirits and when crisis hits, they summon their respective heroes that best correspond to their needs and line of heroism and all four have the same way of summoning their heroes, which is via a book: The Book Of Four Saints, the very same that Naofumi finds in the library. The Shield, however, is the only Weapon that always, 100% manages to summon its first chosen hero, whereas the other three always fail, thus having to resort to trickling down their list of choices, meaning that the further down they go, the more work their heroes will need in terms of moral code and ethic standing. The form of summoning also changes to the point that it becomes a violent, one-way ticket aka death, in order to force a summoning. Hence why all three have similar fates, while Naofumi is merely pulled through the book; their deaths are a direct result of their greatest flaws, which also end up triggering their Curse Series, and as long as they don't address those flaws, they cannot grow as heroes, whereas Naofumi shines through his greatest quality, which is to protect others and keep them safe (at the beginning, he said he pulled his kid brother out of trouble and put him on an Otaku Path, which his parents were very grateful for). This is also why Myne openly targets Naofumi and tries to sabotage him; Naofumi was already fit to be a hero and ruin her plans, so if he falls into a pit to be consumed by the Curse, he would cease being a hero and therefore no longer useful to the world. As Fitoria said, if the heroes cannot fulfill their duties, they need to be disposed of and new heroes need to be summoned. By the time that happens, the Waves would have destroyed much of the world, the Three Heroes' Church would have taken over Melromarc, and chaos would rule most of the continent. But Naofumi rises above it all and becomes an even better hero than expected. And his rise is far from over. *SPOILER END* All of this is explained in the Light Novels as Naofumi and Party figure out more and more about the true origins of the Cardinal Weapons and the Waves.

When I first saw her I was a bit suspicious of her but then when she did all that I was like "BITCH" and I have NEVER felt soo much HATE toward a character in a TV show. They truly made a amazing TV show and perfected the characters plus the voice actors did an amazing job!

And video games at least that I played you got an unfair disadvantage from going up against enemies that are higher level, at least when I did this. Even if the enemy that you are going up against is a higher level you will deal less damage with the same weapon as if you were a higher level, and on top of this you actually take more damage, this is an unfair disadvantage that you are being given from taking more damage and dealing less, they are given a unfair advantage, and yet this is acceptable, and for some reason they went through the effort of doing this, making them feel more damage and how they figure Health pool because they're higher level is fine as a concept. But the thing is that you deal less boss / enemy. With the way that this game works you can pretty much revisit a boss without any real complication, at that point they are basically an enemy, this also applies to a certain mode that you can use in a DLC. But if they have a higher Health pool that is so a lot different then straight up taking less damage from the same weapon with no status effects being applied from anything like some in-game BS shenanigans that the game doesn't really do diddly-squat with in regards to the player. Kind of like how there are weapons that only enemies can use. But no they did not even do this, and even if it's literally the same enemy, because all the other things surrounding it that are hostile will either get decimated by the enemy or its underlings without even teaming up against this hostile enemy, so there's no way that it's a reincarnation from that DNA preservation thing that had an error with the resurrection process. They straight up pull it unfair, I know it would interfere with a mission you get later on, assuming you're even a high enough level, but resurrecting from Death with little stations that anyone can use because of a DNA deposit literally will apply to anyone or anything that is intelligent enough, and that's a good reason for why they can come back from the Dead.

A lot of Japanese games are like this these days. Phantasy Star Online being one where being a tank is pretty useless unless you actually deal high damage too. All four come from an alternate Japan. Its not entirely unreasonable. What is unreasonable is their additudes.

The old woman that said she was a retired adventurer and defeating the enemy creatures made me smile

Despite how popular this series is now, a lot of people hated it when it came out, calling it an Incel Power Fantasy because it dealt with a false Rape accusation despite the fact that does happen a lot more than people think or called it sexist because the main character bought a female slave, despite it both being established as an act of desperation, the country the series taking place in being a matriarchal society and oh yeah, the manga is written by a Woman. Yeah really shows how dumb some people can be.

There are some questionable choices 8n the original story, even if the anime loves to ignore them by diminishing them. The Ein tire idea of having Raphtalia also remain a slave willingly and elevating it as some form of positive bond between them almost feels like a low-key glorification of slavery. You can easily had kept Raphtalia as his loyal Knight or however way you wanted to portray their bond without keeping the “slave” status,

There is a major difference between the Manga and the Anime when it comes to how Bitch and Trash get handled. The anime kind of "redeems" Naofumi in a way. Originally, there was no staged execution. The Queen just straight up says "there are some important reasons why they can't be executed, but you can have literally anything else happen to them if you want."

@@lenleon3699 Being a Bigger person shouldn't mean making their punishment for their crimes lighter than it should be. While, genuinely, an execution would get a light sentence for all the suffering they caused, and at least they must live with the public humiliation for the rest of their lives, how the punishment was played out ultimately feels very different. He didn't stay their executions because he thought they deserved better, he just didn't want the guilty conscience or to become a monster by looking someone begging for their life, in the eye, and telling them no. The anime makes him confront that, but plays it off like he didn't want them to die, instead of the selfish reason that he didn't want their deaths on his head. While the manga (and I do not recall the difference in the LN) avoids the situation entirely by simply telling him "they can't die, but everything else is on the table" even implying that he could absolutely take advantage of her like she claimed he did and it wouldn't be anything other than a punishment for her crime. I don't have a love for "Revenge Fantasy" stories since that resulted in... _Redo of Healer._ But his state as a Revenge-Seeking Protag ended when they received their new names.

I like your new style of narrating! Showing your emotions and also nitpicking some interesting parts is starting to make this channel more unique compared to other recap channels, good job!

"In order to save their home world, they must kill the four heroes". Proceeds to transform into Dr Dre: "L'Arc easily knocks the other three heroes away, while Therese keeps the fleet at bay." Love the fact that he has to sound so serious which makes it even funnier when he makes a joke.

To be fair out of the 3 other heros the sword hero probably is the most level headed, he realized what he had done with the dragon and doesn’t doubt naofumi about it while the other 2 just say he’s a liar and he is also the first one out of them to start trusting naofumi if I am not mistaken

Ah yes, a favorite of mine. Although the current arc being adapted in S2 was drag to get through while reading in the LN and manga, the anime adaption isn't doing a good job with it but at the same time it's better to get past it to get the more interesting part.

What is the anime called

"...which promptly KILLS HIM" Well, that got a good chuckle out of me.

I think Malty could've been an unsung hero while still being hated for most of the season. She could've convinced Naofumi to steal the Hero prototype weapon that the church had, but then threw him under the bus when he got caught. Because her being implicated in the theft would cause conflict between the royal family and the church. Then she treated him cruelly, like in the OG show, to trick the church that they were not allies. But behind the scenes, Malty sends her secret agents to aid Naofumi in his adventure without him knowing. It would've been amazing to have a character that was both hated and liked. But they wasted her.

yup, the reason Malty is a backstabber to the Shield hero is to get support from Three Heroes church aligned Nobles as well as the Church itself and rule as Queen. However, the good way she could have been used is as you described, or even a Beginner Political Chessmaster type which is trying to use the Heroes for her own gain, but had to frame the Shield to throw off the scent, which costs her a simp, sorry, I meant asset.

I seriously love this anime series. I cannot wait to see if it ever reaches its goal for second season. I want to see what is happening in other world realm to cause them to attack Naofumi and others.

I really hate the first couple episodes of this anime, mainly just because of how bad they treat Naofumi. Then after Naofumi proves himself to be strong in the duel he nearly "lost" because the king and his daughter don't like him. This anime was really good but made me really mad at the same time.

Naofumi is basically the school janitor and the others are just litterers

While there are creepy aspects to this Anime, I really like Raphtalia. She kicks butt.

The blacksmith is like the ramen guy or cook or chef in Naruto they help the main characters and they are the first person's to be nice to them 😄❤️

My favorite thing about these types of videos is when you can hear the frustration/exasperation cracking through the narration.

Yeah, got to admit, this one didn't ever do it for me. I can say it's good for what it is, the monster designs are varied, though far too many of the big fights are stills with lights flashing around the larger monsters to 'imply' attacks, rather than showing them reacting to such. That said, the big problem is story. The three other heroes seem ignorant of the world in ways Shield is not, because he listens to his party members. Yet, at the same time, we know they have to trust some of their own party, as they have a quite large ones, and even employ unit tactics in several battles, showing they trust sub commanders and the like to keep order during attacks. This leads to the oddness that we see, where they're constantly at odds with each other, or the world in general, but then seem to have perfect knowledge in other areas. At first, this can be chalked up to things like the Princess/Church's manipulations, but even once those factors are removed, they don't seem to get better. Oh, and the chocobo queen's whole, join with them or die, would work better if she gave that ultimatum to ALL the heroes, especially the ones who are actively antagonistic, rather than the one who's passively so. But if she did that, the story would be forced to make the heroes real idiots, rather than implied ones through lack of context. Finally, we have the...WHY! of it all. Why summon the heroes when you can easily beat back the monsters? Why do what the Princess did at all? It's said to be her just fudging around, but it...it doesn't work that way, especially since the implication is the summoning itself was a last ditch thing. The church's plot too...why let the summoning work at all? Heck, make it fail, imply the royal family is to blame, then take care of a wave yourself and so the church's power to the common man. Boom, you take down the current monarchs with ease, and no need to have otherworlds come in and possibly screw it up. Also, there's the other world heroes...I'm sorry but if you ATACK the other place, then you should expect them to fight back. This one goes into a trope I dislike, the Crime of Self Defense, and this show plays it straight, with red head dick straight up telling the four heroes off for fighting back, because it's going to destroy the world he's trying to protect...but he knows his actions will doom THIS world. You have no moral leg to stand on, and the fact that they're not killing them by the end because it wouldn't be 'right' is just dumb.

The other three heroes are ignorant and view the world like a game, this is why they leave right after doing a quest rather than helping with cleanup. They see Naofumi as a weak link because of his unheroic demeanor and "useless" weapon. The Chocobo Queen gave him the ultimatum because of the curse shield They summoned the heroes because they get stronger faster and have a higher limit. The waves will eventually become too much for ordinary humans. The church never stopped the summoning because they planned on monopolizing the heroes (while hoping the shield hero dies) and preventing other countries from summoning heroes to have them fall and expand their power. The king and Bitch are both also supporters of the church, unlike the queen and melty. They hoped that melty and the queen would die and put church supporters in total control.

I can't explain much about much of the plot but the reason the princess did everything has a huge plot point. SPOILER ALERT B**ch is actually a reincarnated soul fragment of a goddess known as the goddess of betrayal, this could explain all her personality and traits throughout the anime. Also, the Goddess seeks to destroy multiple worlds using the waves of catastrophe.

@@blackrapier713 Ooh, an actual response...sorry just not completely used to these on some of my complaint comments. And some good ones too. One sec, and I will respond to each point in turn. This works only so far, especially since Bow Hero HAS explicitly been trying to learn how the world works. For level grind purposes to be fair, but still. Also, they blame him for 'stealing' the reward from the dragon at one point, but then don't acknowledge that he just left it there. This make sense in the beginning, but Bow and Sword continue to treat him like crap AFTER he kicks their asses. Spear makes sense doing that, considering he's an actual bad person, but Bow is depicted as trying to learn everything he can, and Sword WANTS to be a hero. Spear explicitly is angry at this world for kidnapping him...and to be fair, they did, but he's being an asshole to everyone. She starts with that, but even in the anime he tells her to her face that if they won't help him, he CAN'T help them, because they won't accept it, and she basically just repeats the demand, and does not acknowledge the point, or offer to inform them(And of course they won't believe him if he says giant chicken mom will kill us all if we don't fight together). Bundling the last 3 points together, because they sort of work against each other. The heroes were summoned because the Waves will be too strong to fight, and quickly given they seem to level up EACH time they happen(I had forgotten that plotpoint, only remembering that one time we see local heroes fighting them off...and get slaughtered for their trouble.) And heck, I can get behind the whole idea of making one hero a scapegoat...except they keep doing this AFTER the other heroes fail to stop a Wave, and then the pope tries to explicitly kill ALL the heroes because they decide to say screw it, even though they themselves can't fight them. Also still not sure why the king was in on any of this, given he was already ruler of his own nation, though it sounded like the pope offered him to rule both...except he knew the pope was untrustworthy as that was the whole point. Anyway, thank you for giving me someone to bounce off of.

@@gamero31o Wait, seriously? That's...huh, that kind of makes sense I guess. Makes me think of Tyr/Myria from Breath of Fire honestly, and how she goes from mwa ha haing villainess in game 1, even birthing a world destroyer in game 2 to wanting to be the mommy of the whole world in game 3.

@@SageofStars like you said, the bow hero learned things that help with grinding. I wouldn't put it past him to have only really learned monster patterns and things specifically within the system rather than anything in regards to the people and effects their actions have on them. Also, they're upset over rewards instead of the dragon itself. Which the Shield Hero did take technically. The other heroes still believe his strength is entirely due to a cheat. The curse series, which he refuses to share information on for good reason. And while sword hero DOES want to be an actual hero he is very superficial and seemingly metes out justice as he sees it, once again without bothering with cleanup. And to be fair on borb lady she is literally a wild animal, a fairly intelligent and experienced wild animal, but wild animal nonetheless. But you're right that Mega Ultra Chicken should've come and kicked their asses into cooperation herself, or something at least. They planned on summoning four new heroes after the execution of the original four. Just like what Ostrich Queen suggested she would do if they didn't cooperate. The rest of your criticisms on the others are fair. Most of that was set up to support the narrative of Naofumi being shit on only to prove them wrong. Still one of the better Isekai anime to come out and my second favorite Isekai after slime.

SHIELD HERO GANG!

Gotta a few things to say about this series. One, the series started really strong and was decently well but IMO it started to fall off course and become dull after the revenge upon the princess and king. Two, the other heroes are dumb as hell. If they came from different worlds that are similar to Japan, they would know something isn't right when it came to the charges being placed on the shield hero. Also the whole three hero religion is kinda dumb as well. Just saying. Oh getting tired of the whole loli harem that a lot of Isekai's are doing these days, even this series was hit by the curse of it... Either way, good video. Keep up the recaps!

@@gamexp2024 - I don't know if even the source material goes into a lot of details about it. I only know about it from reading articles on the Shield Hero wiki which mentions how the shield is the only weapon that always manages to summon it's first choice in wielder while the other weapons are usually forced to go with their second or even third choice.

Came across this video randomly and now I’m a big fan of the series! N

Aside from noufumi I gotta say that boss, melty, and the queen are the mvp of this anime.

Malty should’ve gotten sentenced to life in prison and Altcray should’ve gotten 10 years in prison and the other three cardinal stooges should’ve been arrested for their crimes and be sentenced to community service while on probation with the exception of being transported to the waves of catastrophe.

I love this anime, other than dr. stone. I'm sorta an amateur anime watcher, but shield hero and dr. stone are my 2 favorites. ALSO THANK YOU FOR CONFIRMING THE KISS PART, NO ONE BELIEVED ME.

Finally, Rising of the shield hero is my favorite anime. I’m literally angry that I can never watch it for the first time again. SPOILER WARNING ⚠️ The only flaw is that it’s pretty obvious to see he’ll be betrayed at first.
