It probably is, the studio itself said that they weren’t expecting it to be as popular as it was.

You skipped the most important details... When Kumoko beat the catfish, she had her first good meal and promptly hunted the catfist to near extinction. When she was being worshipped, her main motivation for sticking around was to eat more good food. When she was recruited by Best Grandma, she was bribed with the offer of good food and being cooked good food. Ya gotta mention her food bits since they're a pretty big motivator.

this anime was great i actually really liked it, but one thing that i disliked just a tiny bit is that the story / time keeps jumping around from present to past, so it could easily be confusing if you are not paying too much attention.

I had a hard time following the story the first time I watched it. I realized at the end that it couldn't all be happening simultaneously as everyone was reborn at the same time, so while we see Wakaba's entire journey as a spider we're only seeing the most recent events for everyone else. It's still a little confusing but once you know there are time skips it's easier to follow.

Same, I have arachnophobia, hate the thing burn them all, but this one, thanks to the face being mostly human, doesn't tend to be too bad. There's 2 flashbacks, and if you've seen the show you know the ones, that made me stop for a bit, but otherwise this one's better than Demonhunter for that. Some of that is due to the monster bugs being mostly CG, and that turns them from horrid creature of darkness to that's weird lookin.

@@gravediggertheherowolf9478 she evolves later in a aracne(half spider half human) and more later a humanoid goddess. the cofusing of this anime.....happens IN TWO TIMELINES. Spider Story is in the past.....the sidecharacters happens 15 years later(in spider timeline...they are still babies.)

This anime is when the prequel and the sequel mixed into one. If you need a clue on its chronological order: every scene focusing on our spider happened first, then continued on every scene focusing on other characters.

It's really interesting, makes big times skips more natural instead just "X years later". I think it was really good decision since having it chronological not only would have jarring "X years later" but also last episodes would focus only on human characters and I remember when people complained when they didn't see spider for 2 episodes

This anime is good because it isn’t the generic MC reincarnates and becomes OP very fast, but rather she nearly died a few times whilst becoming OP

Kumoko wasn't actually 15 years ahead of all of them. When the class were reincarnated they were all reincarnated at the point of conception, likely on the same day. Human sized spiders on that world apparently hatch after just a few months. They're then fully mobile and able to hunt, just like on Earth. On a side note, earth dragons take about 10 years to hatch. I hope you realized that the egg Kumoko found was actually Fei. The spider silk scarf Julius and later Shun had was made from the balls of silk Kumoko was toying with when the fire was set and she lost the egg.

If you're watching 'So, I'm a Spider, So What?' for the first time, you're going to notice a drop off in the production value. The studio outsourced some of the production, and when they got back a sub-par product, they had to work overtime to fix it. Unfortunately, they ran out of time at the end of the season, which resulted in the drop of production value. The moral of this story is, "Trust but verify."

This anime is literally all I've ever wanted. I see people complaining about it being hard to understand because of the time skips, but that's actually something I think really sets this anime apart from other isekais I've read and watched. I have to actually use my brain to piece these little snippits of story together to try and form a comprehensible story, which just has this sort of charm to it. ...It also gives me an excuse to rewatch it over and over again, LOL.

The light novel handled the time skips way better, it was somewhat confusing yes, but it was hidden in a better way so when you finally figured it out it's much more of that "oh shit this is what's going on" type of moment. The novel has a bunch of those major points you end up shattering your existing understanding of some major aspect of the story or world only to replace it with something new that changes everything, but still works smoothly with the story and everything you learned up till that point. Most stories that try to do this have some major obvious plot holes or questionable parts or things that stood out before as obvious signs of such coming later... The novel versions is still the best story at completely blindsiding me outside of my predictions or even expecations of any such blindside happening.

I don't think the time-skips are hard to follow *_at all_* it even added a big Twist in the end when it was finally _confirmed_ (after some earlier hints) to *_be_* Time-skips. Which, frankly, made this anime even *better* for me; I can't imagine anyone who _actually_ had a hard time following because of them not just being slightly incompetent. (;↼∀↼) Some just need to realize certain questions are _meant_ to be left unanswered until later in good stories. ┐(‘～`;)┌

the difference in people that like the time skips vs those that don't like them comes down to intelligence... I don't mean this in an offensive way, but the people that pieced together the fact everything in plot A happened before plot B are the ones that enjoyed the journey, while the people that didn't come to this realization and didn't see ANY of the connections until the very end, are the people that didn't like it.

@@CrypticCobra Really do agree with this!! While the anime doesn't handle the time skips the same as the light novels, it was really enjoyable to figure out. I came to the realization when it switched to Kumoko's classmates POV for the first time- How could they have been grown already when Kumoko was just born? They all reincarnated at the same time, afterall. The anime did leave a lot of hints as to the fact it was timeskipping / in the present or past. If you care enough about the story or don't want to have a way of storytelling that slightly differentiates from the original source material, you wouldn't notice.

2:15 the dragon was Fei's relative, not Shun's. xD The time skip was such a mindblowing revelation. I love how the show left it for us to figure out. The confusion started in ep 6 where Julius killed the Kumo-lookalike and it was implied it was a minion of the Demon Lord. Some people may have figured out the time skip in ep 9, where Fei's egg is shown in a flashback, but as for me I still wondered until ep 14 if stories of the old Kumo-lookalike was just the backstory for the Demon Lord. Seemed like that was what the writers wanted you to believe.

No, it doesn't pull out their true colours. These kids have grown up again, in a new environment. They aren't who they used to be, they have a lot more experiences and development in a new world under new rules with new people that have developed their personalities even more. So it's not like they are just showing their true colours, they have all actively changed from what they used to be, just like how you would change going from a 16 year old kid to a 30 year old. But being that they had to grow up again and that they had brains that had to develop again, they didn't turn into a mature 30 old. Just a kid still with more years under their belts to define who they are.

Actually makes sense that nameless is in the past all the others were humans or the like and had to go through childhood first but nameless was a monster that starts to function completely pretty much immediately so she was already active while the rest was still growing up

*Thank you for explaining how my Favorite Anime works* *For all of those who doesnt get it, even though the anime clearly explained…the mc have a 15 year head start, so while we see our favorite spider mc, the other reincarnations are still babies, and every time the screen switches to shun, our spider mc is already 15+ years after her reincarnation. This mean when the scene is switches the shun and his party, our mc finally achieve her last form, teams up with ariel…blah blah blah. Great anime*

As a Light Novel reader, this follows the books. Not to a T, but close enough. Effectively covers volumes 1-5. I would recommend reading volumes 1-5, because it makes more sense that way. Volumes 6 onwards... Explains how we get from place to place in volumes 1-5. Pay attention folks, it all makes sense in the end.

Slight notion, the giant spider isn't Ariel's mother. In fact Ariel is kinda her mother, the giant spider is a descendant of Ariel. Which is way Ariel refers to herself as grandmother when meeting nameless

This show is easily in my top 5 anime. I wish they'd finish the second season soon.

Although this anime was a little confusing to watch at first because of the time jumps, it ended up becoming one of my favourites towards the end. Can't wait for Season 2!

this is a series that I intentionally waited a while to watch because I knew it would be good, oh how I underestimated just how good it was, this was a work of art, I was fully invested.

I’ve been raving about, so I’m a spider, so what? For years now, it’s amazing. The manga and LN are really good and so was the animation adaptation. I can’t wait for the next season.

It's a great story with the best spider character, but the studio had "some" issues with animation so don't expect too much polish from the last episodes if you watch it.

The isekai genre is very popular these days, beacuse people don't want to live in a hilarious world like this, hence the desire to be in some other world. The anime is great too. I like a lot the way "Nameless" achieves new skills - it's just like in a videogame and the gradual increase in power is just so cool and thrilling to watch. I like the fact that in the first half of the season they allowed screentime for the main character to fool around and do hilarious things while growing her strength. What I didn't like is that the second half of the anime felt too rushed. All of a sudden she encounteres this earth dragon - one of the strongest creatures in the dungeon and defeates it. Then we see this demon lord. Given the fact that we were traveling from past to future all the time it just felt very chaotic. I think it's better to make several seasons in a slow yet easy to understand manner than to compress everything into one season which becomes a mess alomost impossible to understand. So I would give this anime 6 out of 10. The idea was awesome but they failed to realize it properly.

I'd highly recomend anyone interested to read the light novel, it's very well written and the story goes much further than they have in the anime. Though to be fair while the story was figure out, the earlier few chapters did show their writing skill was still a bit more lacking, so the first few chapters (at least of the most common English translation, not certain if it's also the Japanese original) are a bit of a slog to read, once they find their pace and fix their initial issues though it goes solid. I will say that what you come to think of as being how things work or what's going on in this story are rarely what they seem. But they are still true, in their own way so nothing you ever read/learn gets thrown out later or doesn't make sense and still fit into stuff later.

yes i agree, the light novel was pretty good, timeline is messy but it works, and they go way more in depth into the background of the spider, vampire, and wrath. i do not remember seeing as much of the hero’s interactions though

enjoyed the anime a lot. but the one thing i wish they'd done, is have a part where the woman/spider is dancing to Cuban Pete from The Mask. i'd have laughed myself into a headache if i saw that. saw a jumping spider dance to that song once, it was pretty funny.

I really love this anime because of it's genre being rpg-fantasy like! Though sometimes I get confused with timeline of the anime jumping from present to past then vise versa. Overall I understand the anime now thank you for recapping it! ♥️♥️♥️

I loved this anime, I just hated how abruptly it ended It was very frustrating to keep track with the constant hop back and fourth until you meet a centre at the end of the series

I loved this show. Its was fun watching her grow and become incredibly stronger

i remember when this anime was released and had to wait each week. crazy how time flies

I thought this anime was going to be complete crap and watched it out of having nothing better to. This is actually one of the best fantasy / isekai out there and I fervently await more seasons.

18:11 this is somewhat true she actually cant stop her alternate mind because she has lost connection to her alternate mind, therefore she can't stop eitherway I think

also part of the reason she joined the war was because she liked how much xp humans give compared to normal monsters. so when she decimated hundreds and thousands of people, she leveled up quickly and got to Arachne evolution stage.

This anime is amazing I just for some reason like anime where the MC gets reincarnated as a different species or even a monster

This is literally just the plot of (What I see as) the 2nd act of "What If...Doctor Strange lost his heart instead of his hands?"

We need another season of this, the next volumes are outstanding

This is one of the best animes I've watched; I'm super excited for season 2!

I had a love/hate relationship with this anime. I enjoyed the story, but I didn't really like the jumping back and forth of the time line. It takes a bit before it really becomes apparent, and once it does it can make for a bit of messy process until culminating at the end of the anime. I do hope they continue it with another season, but time will tell.

The anime only covered the volumes of the Light novel where that was happening It was done that way mainly because anime producers don't trust a series that doesn't have the standard isekai cliches and the author was writing the LN version as an official plotline for the Anime to follow. Therefore team hero had to be there doing all that nonsense later volumes drop all timeskipping

i heard that a new season of this show should start around 2023

The spider scenes were excellent. Very fun personality and battles that are always just at the edge of what the protagonist can handle. The academy students scenes are also a great way to train your fast forward reflexes.

To anyone who feels like this was overall a good anime but it could've been just a bit better, I highly recommend the light novels. They're the original source and are definitely worth the read due to having better character development, and making Shun a lot more likable than he is in the anime.(not that I personally dislike him)

I love this series. This is one of my favorite animes so far. I hope that this series get a second season sometime

It really looks like an awesome story but I lost track somewhere halfway. So much happening at the same time, and it also happens in the past. Does Nameless end up in the past and is therefore older, more powerful and stronger than her classmates or is she just a reincarnation of Rachni and connected to the two vampires and the current demon lord? I’m so confused!

Everybody was reincarnated simultaneously, but monster spiders hatch way faster than humans (you know, 9 months in the womb for humans). Also, humans start as babies, they can't do anything at that stage. Monsters have the advantage, they can level up almost immediately after they're born. When nearly all the reincarnations were toddlers, the newborn Nameless was busting her butt leveling up in that nightmare of a labyrinth. Every time she appears you are watching the past (she encounters the vampire girl as a baby). Every time the others appears is the present (everyone is 15ish or so, even Nameless). The vampire girl appears in the past as a baby and in the present as a teen, that's one of the clues the show gives the viewers they are watching different timelines.

It's more complicated and way different ;) Basically spider is a reincarnation, her arc is before all the humans arcs, and the arcs unite at the fight with the elves - but in the books it takes another 10 LNs for the background and you get a lot more world lore.

This anime was really the definition of ''they had us in the first half'' for me. After that, the story just got so confusing and wild that it became difficult to watch and I never finished it.

The problem I had/have with this series is the disjointed narrative. I prefer a story with some continuity, rather than one that seems to just gives snippets into the past/present/future with little to no explanation. A story is more engaging when you don't have to keep altering your perception in favor of the next "OOO! What a twist!?" M. Night Shyamalan is a good example of how that trope is done poorly

They did that purposely to trick readers so it's not easy to predict what's next and make it much more satisfying when it's explained and you're wrong whole time by keep assuming based on generic anime tropes or when you pay attention and guess it right. But the anime ended right before the part where they're going to explain all the plot behind those events in "future". I'd say it's a very special story, a well-thought isekai with whole world building around those generic isekai tropes instead of those fast-food craps we got in the genre

This anime needs a sequel, that cliffhanger ending makes me what to where they go from here on.

I've watched this for 3 times.... It's still so good T-T

Turns out later on that the reincarnated kid turned spider was actually a spider all along just given the memories of a human by one of the administrators and they eventually even become more powerful than all the adminstrators when they become a god (happens in manga).

I love it

_I loved this anime, the twist that the spider was actually a spider and not a classmate was a nice touch._

This anime was good, yet by the end the budget was going down so the animation was bad also dont think there will be more seasons

The finale was definitely the best episode, every other episode I just wanted the human storyline to pass on and go back to the spider because I didn’t care about them at all

ive seen this one before but thanks for reminding me this existst. ima go re watch it til overlord comes out tomorrow lol
