I had my own Sherman. His name was goose. Great big gray and white pit. He had been a bait dog because he wouldn’t fight. Then some people got him and acted like they saved him but they beat him and threw him down basement stairs. By the time we got him he would barely bark. But he was 125 lbs of love. With a 27 inch head. After we had him for about 5 years goose had a seizure. He passed with us all around him. Hugging him. Telling him we loved him. I miss him.

I am crying so hard I started crying when he said, "His world became pitch black, and he was so scared. " Broke me, and I kept crying harder and harder as the video finished I have had dogs pass away, and even though I have a hard time showing emotion of how much I miss them, and knowing one day one of the best, and favorite dog that I grew up with, which is a pitbull, will pass away some day and I'll never see him again I'm sorry for your loss I hope you're doing okay

I've listened to hundreds of rescue stories and was a foster/fospice myself, but no story wrecked me like this one. I can barely see the screen through the tears. He loved Sherman with a force of will that was so mighty. I thank him for sharing handsome Sherman with us and I hope his heart is at peace. 💙🐾

Same here. This one was hard, but I'm glad Sherman had such kind owners at the end of his life. It's a shame that he'd ever been mistreated. I can't even begin to understand why someone would abuse an animal or for that matter, another person.

holy crap. I thought this was going to be a nice short story of a caring adoption. I did not expect to be sat here streaming with tears. I'm a grown ass man and it's not even my dog... If you happen to check the comments here, you sound like a great guy and Sherman got lucky in the end.

I know this has been 2 years ago, but this is my first time seeing this and I just had to comment. Talking about crying like a baby…I am a mess right now. Sherman..what a wonderful dog that had such an awful beginning of life (so not fair). Then this couple that had to be angels, gave him so much love at the end of his life. I have to say, Sherman’s daddy is one beautiful, caring man. If only others saw and treated animals the way he did Sherman. OMG, what a wonderful world we would be living. God bless this family and RIP sweet Sherman, no more pain. ❤❤❤

Didn't know a KZread video was supposed to be able to make me cry. But even crying felt too less. Just privileged to see and listen to such care and love existing in this world.

This family are angels

I'm about a year into life with an often frustrating rescue. He's the latest of a long line of many that I've had the privilege of having. I thought this guy would be easier, but it hasn't worked out that way. Every time now that I become exasperated, I stop and listen to Sherman's story again. It reminds me of why I do it: The love you give, and the love you get in return 💖 God Bless You, Dear Sherman 🌈, and Sherman's Mom and Dad, too ❤❤

We need updates on this! I have a special needs rescue that took 2 years. never agressive, eventhough she has been beaten and chased away on the streets of romania. First 2 years i learned a lot about her, and now ive had her for 5 years, she is a different dog. still scared of many things, but im exposing her on her own terms and time. All she really wants to do is lay on everything soft and enjoy the sun

The love for a dog I have never met and the care given with unconditional love from his Kahu is one of the purest forms of love I have ever witnessed. Rest in Glory Mighty Sherman xx

You can HEAR how much the guy loved Sherman in the pain in his voice as he spoke about the end. Sherman got a beautiful end of his life. He was thoroughly cared for and loved more than he'd ever felt in his life before. God bless this person, their kind heart, and the dedication they had for Sherman...who totally deserved every bit of love they gave and more.

I'm crying.

Hearing this man brake down talking about his beautiful and precious dog broke my heart. I’m crying my eyes out. I cry because Sherman is gone but also my tears are out gratitude because he had a warm home and an incredibly loving family at the end of his horrible life. How many Shermans are out there and will never be loved like this sweet dog? Please be kind to animals and report animal abuse if you see it. 💔

I cant stop crying for sherman an his parents and all dogs being abused. I just cant stop crying.

The promise of "you will never be hurt again" runs deep with me and my dogs story. He's 16 years old. I got him at 8. Pretty neglected and abused with very similar problems. It's huge when you see that turning point from fear into whole hearted trust. Dogs that get a second chance at life are some of the most grateful creatures in the world. He's pulled me out of so much truama just by being himself. Love this story. Thank you for including his final slumber as my dogs time is coming up and it's been so hard to accept that I've got to stick to my promise to him and be there for his very last moment as I promised him he'd never be alone again.

If only there were more people like this family, this world would actually be worth living in. ANYONE that harms an animal deserves the same in return. PERIOD........ Thank you for taking such care of Sherman, one of God's angels here on earth...... His final days with you were not lost in vain, he knew you were with him on his final journey......

I'm a domestic violence survivor and I think Sherman was, too. When his dad said that when he met Sherman he knew he desperately wanted to be loved and that he couldn't leave him there. That got me bawling like a baby. I'm so grateful to be reminded that there are men in the world who are loving and protectors of the vulnerable and voiceless. Thank you❤

You gave Sherman his best life and he was loved very much. It’s so hard to decide when it is time to let an animal go, so they don’t suffer. My first adult pet lived 18 years and saving goodbye was so horrible, but I was beyond grateful for my years with my best buddy.

@@CommissarChaotic I believe it is a deep sense of domination and control.( goes back to dog fighting I believe) Mostly though, they are begging to be dragged into an ally and receive a good ass kicking in return for their treatment of defenseless animals !

I find it heart warming. Don’t focus on the tears, listen harder. You’ll find that the pain is only the outward expression of immeasurable love. So many will never know how much it means to have someone promise you that you’ll not be hurt again. Which is wonderful. Both hearing the promise and that there are so many that will never know the significance of it.

Right? Warning or a "Tissue Alert" is mandatory for these! I'm dealing with an adopted rescue that she just does not believe that she will no longer be on the street. We've had her since January 2016, but that bit of her history we cannot seem to make disappear in her mind. We adopted a puppy a couple days after we got her since she was So Lonely & missing for her 6 puppies that had been found with her on the street. Puppies all got adopted, but we wanted & needed her (Merry). Now she has a perpetual puppy with our Jack Russell mix (Pippin) that she mothers, plays with & fusses at.

I love dogs way more than people. I've rescued so many over the years, each with a heartbreaking story. When you save a dog and it realises what you did, it will love you unconditionally until the end ❤️

I am crying too!! I adopted a little female Pittie that looks a lot like Sherman....right down to the little nubby, badly cut ears. "Brie" (Bree) wasn't even a year old and was scheduled for euthanasia...I couldn't imagine not adopting her. She had scars all over her stomach, chest and inside of her thighs...a bait dog...smart enough to climb a fence to get away from her abusers. She was found wandering the streets...picked up by animal control and sent to a rescue group. She just turned 2 and is the sweetest dog...loves my cats, my 2 Chihuahuas; and at just 40lbs, she loves sparring with my 110lb Anatolian Shepherd who never had a good playmate until Brie came along. Brie also loves my chickens and goats...now, if she gets the chance she'll climb the backyard fence to visit the goats...but I keep an eye on her just because there's always a chance she'll head the other direction, down the drive and somehow escape my little farm. I cried watching this video, because I've seen Brie cower and roll on her back for even a minor reprimand, so I try to overlook her mistakes. I let her know all the time that I love her and think she's so smart and amazing, even after chewing her new bed into a thousand pieces. I don't think I'll ever understand how some 'humans' can subject such innocent animals to terrible cruelty, leading to so much pain, suffering, and too often, death. Sherman and Brie, and so many others just want to be loved. I can't imagine how painful it's been to lose Sherman...very heartbreaking. I'm glad the end of his life was full of love and protection!

Please remember that Brie’s destructive ways probably comes from abuse and frustration...She probably doesn’t know how to act towards love and patience, very new to her...thank you for your patience with her..she desperately needs you! I cried watching this. I cried for them being separated from their lovely Sherman. And I cried for my husband who crossed over 5 years ago, and I cried for our two cats that died within 6 months of him, and for every pet I ever lost. That is the cost of love . . . till we meet again.

Yeah, this hit me hard. I haven't cried like that since my dog passed two years ago. He died in my arms in the front yard while I told him, "It's okay. It's okay". I used to tell him that if he was worried he was in trouble or some noise scared him. I'm a bigger guy, and a former police officer and veteran, but two kind neighbors came out to comfort me as I held him and cried in front of the house. Seeing this video brought that back but I'm thankful for it. He and Sherman are worth the tears.

Thanks for giving Sherman a loving home, but thank you even more for not letting him suffer with pain etc. when his time had come. He will always live on in the memories of everybody whose heart he touched.

When I think of dogs to me they’re like having a child. And it’s hard to understand why with somebody abuse them. I’m just happy that he got some love. But it was hard to fight back those tears.

I’ve watched the video two times crying my heart out, I have two dogs of my own and can’t imagine a day without them. I’ve kept this video in a playlist to remind me that there are extraordinary, ordinary people out there with a love so big it can’t be measured. If in doubt of kindness and love in this world, I’ll watch it again to remind me there are true angels walking this earth.

I will freely admit I’m crying my eyes out right now. Thank you for sharing Sherman’s story. All the bully breed are amazing and if you don’t think so you didn’t give them a chance. Thank you for what you did for him. You guys are amazing.

Don't know if anyone watching this managed to get through it without tears. I broke down when I realized he was gone. You guys were a blessing for that beautiful but unfortunate dog. A love which is unconditional, warm, sincere, and self sacrificing. The dog is the embodiment of the love in the hearts of most men. Men shaped the dog in the image of our own hearts. They're man's best friend because we made them to be. Because so few people are really worthy of our friendship, we needed to create something which was. The world is not a nice place. It shaped men for hunting and war. Our species would not exist if men loved as dogs love. You can only afford unconditional love when all of your needs are provided for. Besides, women never choose or never stay with nice men. When given the choice, they'll pick the violent criminal over the nice guy -- all other traits being equal. Our species would've ended long ago if they didn't. Either that, or we'd still be climbing in trees. That's the way of human sexual selection and it always has been. It's because of war and female hypergamy that we evolved. Without those evolutionary pressures, the brain would never have expanded and we wouldn't be here asking about "unconditional love" -- we wouldn't have the brain to arrive at the concept. There's no unconditional love among unrelated humans because there can't be. There would be no humans at all if there were no selection pressure in evolution to drive the necessity of intelligence in our species. Nature doesn't gift a species out of kindness. Even with pairs of lifetime pair-bonded species we find they've been stepping out on each other -- DNA tests confirmed. Unconditional love is the romantic fiction invented by humans during times when humans believe there's no scarcity -- though there is always scarcity, it's just that sometimes you become isolated from scarcity over space and/or time. The short answer though, is there isn't unconditional love because there can't be. It can't naturally occur in this universe. You can create it, but it doesn't arise spontaneously, it has to be bred and then conditioned in dogs.

If the story wasn't heartbreaking enough, listening to Heath's voice crack as he reached his goodbyes with Sherman near broke me. Heath, Angel. Thank you for taking in Sherman, and making his life so full of love. There are not enough people like you in the world.

The family that fostered/adopted him as you should be so proud of what you did to this beautiful dog with not a bad bone in his body. All he wanted was love and this family should be very proud of themselves (sorry for repeating myself), this shows that there are kind people in this world and you made his lasting days one very happy and beautiful dog had a heart of gold and showed how much he loved this family. Beautiful Video.

Man....tears man. Awesome job taking him in. My heart is brimming with emotion and words but none can make it to my fingers to type. I just recently lost mine and that video brought back all the joy and all the pain.

The pain in this man's voice is really sad to hear.

Listening to this man telling Sherman story while he was breaking up emotionally really touched my heart. I'm so thankful they got Sherman out of the shelter and gave him all of their love and patience. Sherman was truly loved until the day they had to let him go I said back more times than not thinking of all of my babies have done in my life and still talk to them like they're sitting here listening to what I say. Most I think of the happy times and what it was that I loved about each and every one of them and sometimes I sit and cry because of how much I still love them and miss them.

Even if he cost a million… what he gave back to you was priceless. You’ll meet him again one day!

I am a 34 year old man and I have tears in my eyes. Losing your four-legged best friend is one of the worst feelings. Mine died on 5/3/2020 at 5:02pm at home in my arms and I am still crying to this day. When there are sad moments, it always helps to remember the good Moments.

I walked on 4's with her and stuff. Now im literally crying cuz im not sure if i will ever see the dog again, before his death ...

That was both heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time as I wasn’t expecting it to end that way for Sherman. The love and empathy that came through cut me deep. Thanks for sharing and giving Sherman the opportunity to live his life how it should have been from the start.

My Grammy girl spent years in a no kill shelter because no one wanted a senior pit bull mix with cropped ears. When I saw her in the shelter my heart could not stop thinking about her. So I agreed to foster her and quickly failed at fostering. She was my best friend for 3 years. That old dog turned into a puppy overnight. She had such a zest for life and loved living out in the country where she could run. I knew she had been abused, I was having an angry phone call and saw her huddling in a corner where she had urinated in fear. I ended the call, cleaned the mess, and did everything to not raise my voice or make sudden movements around her. I miss her every day but I know she died knowing love and I have faith I will get those sloppy kisses again one day.

I’m crying so hard, because Sherman had to go doggie heaven. I’m thankful you loved him and showed him love before he went. It was so unselfish of you to realize his quality time had come to an end. I’m bawling my eyes out, that poor precious dog suffered until you got him, then he knew LOVE!! 🐶🥰😥😥😥😥

You are a good man. I'm in tears. I lost my baby 1/6/2023 this year. I still cry myself many nights when I think about her. Dogs are truly gifts from heaven. They show us nothing but love and loyalty. I'll always be grateful to have had a beautiful 16 years with my baby.

Oh, this made me tear up so much. What an incredible dog and what incredible humans you are. You made his life so special and he gave that back to you. It's heart-breaking when we lose a beautiful animal who means so much to us, but we can be so grateful that we could share our lives and our love with them. Especially the ones who need it most.

Was not ready for that. The world needs more people like you.

As I said in my comment, I NEVER cry at videos, but this one has my eyes leaking. I’m so touched by the love this couple gave at so much cost. And yet they counted only the love and gain that Sherman brought to their lives.

Oh dear god - I am sobbing 😢😢… thank you so very much for giving sweet Sherman so much love for the time he had left. 🩵He is now watching over you until you meet again at The Bridge. Rest well amazing boy! 🩵🌈

I think the underlying point of this was to bring every single person who watched this video to tears. And if I was to bet, I would bet you definitely succeeded in that. 😢

“I think he thought this was the start of a beating so I stopped and kneeled down and loved him so hard” I’ve had two rescues in my life both had a fair amount of neglect so I know that feeling when you see them with glimpses of fear from their previous life. The stray pit I found in the Bronx would react to an angry voice. She'd cower and raise her butt to be kicked and submission peed. She taught me to control my temper. She was the most loving girl ever. She left me Jan 2016 at age 17+.

I know and especially hard rn bc I recently lost my (Heath) Jack Russell he was about to be 16 yrs old and out of no way had a bad seizure and couldn't come out of it and of course I refuse to let him suffer, every time I had a bad panic attack and anxiety he wouldn't leave me side well, he hardly ever left however he was taking care of me like we always did.

Sherman was lucky to have such parents? The perfect parents in the end took away his life just because poor child Sherman got old and blind with some disease? If you love such parents who can't keep you in this life as you become blind and old with diseases i hope and pray to God that you should definitely be blessed with such parents like that who can't afford you if you become blind and old with diseases just like they couldn't afford Sherman to live his life and the couple took away poor child Sherman's life as poor child Sherman became blind and old with diseases. RIP Sherman, the true gentle giant! The absolute worst part of loving your animals, is the pain when they pass. Ultimately you did the right thing getting him out of the pain and suffering he was in. I can't imagine waking up to a dark world

People need to start dealing with it themselves. If I ever see or know of abuse in any form I will personally deal with it. The fact that something morally wrong is happening completely blocks out any fear. They are the most pathetic people in the world are fearing an abuser is like fearing a worm under your boot. Ill beat the shit out of them and call the police myself.

So sorry for your lose. Your story about Sherman put tears in my eyes. But like you said Sherman is in peace and he has a great safe rest of his life that you gave him. One day you will meet again. R.I.P Sherman!

I was one of those people who couldn't understand how people got so emotional over pets, but here I am sitting on a parking lot watching this and crying. Rest in Doggie Heaven, Sherman.

For some of us, who have never known love, having a creature that loves to wake up to see your face, is the only warmth we have in this world. That's why we cry over them like they are our children, because they are. They are our light in this world, our love and sometimes the only reason why we wake up in the morning. I have a two year old pitbull I adopted. I know she'll have a long, loving and healthy life with me, but I cry, just about every time I think about that in fifteen, twenty years I'd have to let her go and my heart breaks into a million tiny pieces. Sometimes I wish that if she has to go, that I go with her because I don't know how to breathe without my beautiful girl. When you finally know love, true, unconditional, non-judgemental love, love you don't have to earn, losing that is so hard.

T.N. Dynamite, I was you as well until Tori a boxer whom I fell in Love with 12yrs ago, she changed this girls life forever. I've adopted 3boxer rescues since then & waiting for my 4th to rescue me!! I cried & cried watching this video.

I really love the fact that he pointed out that Sherman was a perfect “ambassador for misunderstood breeds.” We need more people to think like this.

I cant finish this.😢 Sorry. RIP Sherman. Thank you, guy who rescued him.
