Sherman Hemsley 6-20-87 late night TV performance
Ойын-сауық
Sherman Hemsley, who had an album called Dance, sings and dances his way through one of the songs from his Ghost Fever movie, in a late night TV performance broadcast 6-20-87 on Solid Gold. The song "Eyes in the Dark" was written and produced by Ross Vannelli, brother of 70s smooth-pop star Gino Vannelli. Ghost Fever was shot in 1985 but not released until 1987, after extensive re-shooting and re-editing. Mr. Hemsley, who sings two songs on the soundtrack (this and the title tune) was a big fan of progressive rock bands like Nektar (whose song "Show Me the Way" was sneaked into a Jeffersons episode), Gentle Giant (he danced to their song "Proclamation" on the Dinah Shore Show), and Gong, and he even recorded an unreleased album with Jon Anderson of Yes. An old issue of TV Guide shows him in his almost completely empty living room, sitting in a yoga position on the floor with two Yes posters on the wall behind him - a really interesting guy! For more on Sherman, see Ashley's excellent video bio - • OLD HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS...
The BetaGems channel also has "6-10-95 Sherman Hemsley & Isabel Sanford - Dumb & Dumber."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on KZread or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several yea"rs. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

His dance was called the George Jefferson, after his character on The Jeffersons & the dance he always did on there

Actually the dance he was doing on the Jeffersons was called the Slop. He made it famous but the dance been out before he started doing it. I'm from Philly and my Grandfather use to do this dance all the time.
@TheProspecialist
Жыл бұрын
The Slop Dance “The Slop” originated in the Philadelphia black community but it may have started in Delaware or Baltimore and made it big in Philly. The Slop during the 1950's was introduced to the public on the TV Show 'Bandstand'. It began in the late fifties as a couples dance, without touching. The style morphed here and there from the fifties into the sixties, becoming even more popular in the sixties on the Philly dance scene at the Jerry Blavat dances and on his “Discophonic Scene” dance show. The dance made its way up and down the east coast, as far north as NYC and as far south as Washington, D.C.
Jefferson dancing his ass off and in good shape for his age. 🎤
He lived 2 blocks over from my cousin in El Paso Texas. He had some energy! He'd be walking around the neighborhood everyday waving at everyone. Such a great guy! RIP Sherman "George Jefferson " Hemsley

@jrsmith1998 to answer your question (not that it matters tbh), I have no idea if he was gay out there or not. My cousins said he lived alone and was private except when he walked around the neighborhood.

He was having a great time on that stage! Never heard the song before but it's a mood 💜
If only he was alive during Dancing with the Stars. If his legs and feet were still working during the time was still alive, I think he would've made it. He would've had a huge pop, the support, the love and the confidence from the crowd.

Damn, he was the age I am right now. I need to start dancing again
I love that he got to live this moment…he got to be a rock star for 1 day. If you knew his story you would know how much this probably meant for him. ❤
Ashley says so brought me here , I have to watch this when ever I am depressed 😅😅😅😅🤣
My favorite scenes in The Jeffersons are when he starts dancing. lol He's obviously a great dancer, and the way he dances in each scene fits so perfectly and is also so funny. :D

lmao. bless his heart ??? lol. Well we know what you think of this “performance”. It’s funny. Like really funny. It almost feels like it’s an episode of the Jeffersons where this is meant to be funny
What’s funniest is he’s DEAD SERIOUS. 🤣
You could photoshop Prince's head over Sherman's, and everyone would totally believe that's little Prince dancing around! The only reason it seems funny is because it's "George Jefferson's" head, but the dude's got moves!
