deeelite1988

Фильм және анимация

Kier ,Dimitry,Towa, and Hiroyuki went to the wall street New York City .
before they made debut on Major record company as Deeelite.
I remembered that day. A guy approached kier and I felt someone speak,,then
pan to him,,he danced toghter,,,an peaceful day..

My God! For all the times I've viewed this video, how the hell did I not recognize the channel name? Hiroyuki Nakano, the brilliant mind behind the truly iconic "Groove is in the Heart" video! I need to be selfish for a moment and take this opportunity to tell you how big an influence this video had on me. My apologies if it's lengthy. I grew up a little gay boy in northwestern Wisconsin. Far from anything or anyone I could relate to as I entered my teens. I was eleven the first time I saw the Lady Miss KIer appear on the black screen, the words "Faux Fur" above her to make a statement they were passionate about. Like most kids, my mother would find me glued to the television only to tell me for the one hundredth time it would ruin my eyes. With that first explosion of colour and the Lady atop her little go-go box, I was transfixed. And as the camera pushed forward through the dancers, I thought to myself "That's where I belong." Shortly thereafter, I'd gone to my public library and pulled all of the articles on Deee-Lite I could. A Newsweek article described Deee-Lite's lead singer as "a woman impersonating a drag queen." I had no idea what that was, so I asked my mother. She answered honestly and she's regretted it ever since. Upon graduating high school, I reinvented myself entirely with my own drag persona and set out to find the glitterati, those wonderful midnight children from that beautifully trippy music video. I've now been a drag performer for *coughs* twenty-six years and "Groove is in the Heart" is my signature song. Whenever I've performed the song in nightclubs, I've used projected visuals similar to the mesmerizing backgrounds of your video. In my quest for all things Deee-Lite, I knew your name well and in something of a tribute years later, I named one of my drag daughters after you (her name was Kitanah Kim Nakano). Thank you so much for giving so many of us such a vivid time capsule of sorts. The song, while a classic on its own, is almost impossible to listen to without having it evoke bright and beautiful memories of the video you directed instantly flooding the mind. I highly doubt I'm the only kid out there who saw it as a form of escapism whenever they watched it back then. To us, "Groove is in the Heart" was more than just a music video in heavy rotation on MTV - it was a lifeline and one that I'm personally forever grateful for. xoxox Miss Dee-Lovely

People dancing and having a good time like this on the streets would have the cops called on them in 2022 because some angry person would get offended by the fun being had. People just cant have any fun of any kind anymore because they gave up on freedom for safe spaces that aren’t safe. At least I was able to have fun when I was young without fear of harm. Deee-Lite and Lady Kier was so talented and fearless and it really showed through their music.

I am very grateful for this post! A historic view to the video: In 1989, after an unprecedented ~15-year rise, the New York real estate prices were smashed down to the ground. Nonetheless, Housing companies still were widely unregulated and left buildings unmaintained, speculating that there will come some opportunistic investors with pockets full of money. That created some unrest among those populating less settled areas of NYC and sparked a certain 'urban' spirit to reclaim the streets and fill them with self-determined live. Some of the communities' urban politics from the 1970/1980 years were still immanent (i.e. low regulation to run a business or a relatively liberal drug policy) and thus attracted young people from all over the world ('the melting pot'). The New York art scene, nurtured from universities and art schools, (once again) had to overcome white and male predominance but (contrary to late 1960's) there were icons to follow and to inherit. Just recall underground movements that are part of pop culture today: "NY Hardcore" spread everywhere, the House music scene grew strong, the Harings and Basquiats searched the spotlight. At last, in my opinion with a strong influence, the AIDS experience shocked the society thoroughly and put established outlooks under question. What is safe when the most intimate form of human behavior isn't? In the end, a strong and appealing "Let's challenge boundaries" mindset could evolve, right? It's an innocent time, viewed from the present, but in first place, it is some real and human way to live your life the way you feel is good and justified.
