Sherlock Holmes (TV-1954) THE TEXAS COWGIRL (S1E4)

Фильм және анимация

Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.
THE CASE OF THE TEXAS COWGIRL: Minnie, a cowgirl from a travelling western show, visits Holmes after she finds a dead body in her room. Afraid that a scandal would endanger her marriage plans, she asks Holmes to help her move the body.

Ronald Howard plays the most sympathetic, woman-friendly Sherlock, I think. I liked your recipe. A cooking secret I have found for any sauce or condiment is to first beat a little of the olive oil with a little salt. This will keep all the ingredients fresher and crisper, preserving them better. An odd trick, but it works. I was touched by the dedication of the recipe to your Mother. I loved mine, too.

@@carolinebrookboysen1945 Hi! The recipe is for Tunisian Harissa on Monique Cardell's page above. The salt and oil trick is something I use for salsa, coleslaw and potato salad to keep the ingredients crispy while the flavors meld. Another technique I just found out about is Dry Brining. I washed a whole chicken, patted it dry, salted it good and left it for 30 mins. When I rubbed the dry rub on it it stuck to the skin and it had the crispest skin and juiciest meat of any chicken I've ever baked. Lots of recipes for Dry Rubs online. Some of them say to refrigerate the chicken for 2 to 24 hours after rubbing with salt. I can always figure out something to throw together but sometimes it's a technique that makes the difference!

Lucille (aka Lucie or Lucy) Vines, or Vines Bonnefoy, plays Minnie. She effects a competent drawl here, also appearing briefly, albeit uncredited, as the English secretary to the villain in "The Case Of The Jolly Hangman". With dual American/French nationality, she had a brief acting career but became better known as an artist. She married the very eminent French poet-critic-translator Yves Bonnefoy in 1968 and gave birth to Madeleine Bonnefoy in 1972, who later distinguished herself in French film making.

Is it just coincidence that the theme music starts with the same two notes and the same time structure as the beginning of the theme of "Gone With The Wind", which starred Ronald Howard's father, Leslie? Is it possible that the composer wanted to do a little homage to Ronald's dad? I'm probably just being fanciful. I guess......maybe.

If you are wondering why this episode is so odd; at the time they needed to write this episode, the writers were completely out of ideas, and the tight shooting schedule gave them no time to brainstorm. So the story was basically one of desperation.

It did come across as desperate compared to the others. A bit of a farce. Thanks for making it clear why.

Lestrade knows next to nothing and if it wasn't for Holmes forever solving every case he'd have been thrown out on his ear long ago .

Probably the best cast Holmes production. These are not Doyle stories and they're a bit campy - I was going to stop watching after this one but when Watson lassoed the villain he also lassoed me back into watching the rest of the episodes.

having grown up in the south from Georgia to Arizona, i gotta say, that English actress did a fair job, with a good coach at pulling off a mangled cross of southern and western American accent. she poured it on THICKER than ANYONE here in the states did. except maybe for LouseyAnna Cajuns, they get real thick with their own paculiar accent. it was very much like a clown act. but then it was for an British audience. WAY too thick. the British view of Americans always was a little queer.
