Sherlock Holmes (TV-1954) THE CUNNINGHAM HERITAGE (S1E1)
Фильм және анимация
Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.
THE CASE OF THE CUNNINGHAM HERITAGE: The first part of the show is a faithful retelling of Holmes and Watson's meeting as in "A Study in Scarlet" until Holmes invites the good doctor to their first murder investigation. Lastrade has it all wrong, of course, picking the most likely suspect, Peter Cunningham's secret bride, a "jailbird".

I think Afghanistan is a lot like ancient Judea. A rural population deeply loyal to their religious traditions, who are deeply hostile towards being ruled from cities and towns under the influence/control of Godless foreigners. The Jewish Maccabean revolt against the "Hellenisers" and the Taliban and other Mujahadeen revolts against Western/Soviet supported states are cut from similar cloth in my opinion.

Like Father like Son. Ronald is really good as Sherlock Holmes. Also like Marion Crawford as Watson. Love this episode about Watsons recollection of how he had first met Holmes, it blends in nicely with the case .That LaStrade , how he can be so far off base in his conclusions, for a Scotland Yard Inspector is beyond me. Ron Howard, Basil Rathbone, and Peter Cushing are my favorites when it comes to the actors who portrayed Holmes; Christopher Lee would have been a good one too except that the idiot directors chose to have someone else voice him in the English version - which totally ruined it since I've always liked listening to his voice.

I've always like the Hammer film, but, since seeng what's left of the 1968 BBC series, I've come to like Cushing's Holmes MUCH more! He's just too "nasty" (for want of a better word) in the Hammer film, about halfway between his portrayals of Victor Frankenstein & Lawrence Van Helsing. The BBC series, I feel, he's more authentic... although, if anything, I prefer Douglas Wilmer in the 1965 series even more.Nigel Stock's Watson (in both) is a bit stuff, but intelligent and likable. But he doesn't hold a candle to Crawford, who's blustery, and tough. This is not a Watson you wanna mess with, but he is one you want by your side when there's trouble. Note how he ignored Lestrade's warning: "You mark my words-- STAY AWAY from that man, or you'll be INSANE within a week!"

Almost 22 now. 🙂 These classic black and white shows have a charm to them that I find I enjoy. 😊
I wonder if Watson reading the Punch magazine was foreshadowing for the ending of the villian throwing a punch and Watson throwing an even bigger punch.

this is the first i've heard of dear sherlock dismissing fundamental knowledge like this as "useless" . . . the spirit of the notion is reminiscent of the story of einstein, upon being asked his phone number pulling out a phone book and looking it up, declaring he doesn't clutter his mind with information he can easily reference. . . still i find the notion of sherlock not understanding basic astronomy to be disheartening ! :-/

I remember as a kid in the 70s and early 80s, my dad would smoke while we went shopping at k-mart and tg&y (stores like walmart, before walmart was everywhere) and people would just toss their matches and cigarette butts on the floor and just stamp them out with a twist of their shoe. there were cigarette butts all along the isles on the floor and occasionally somebody would come along with one of those big wide dust mop things to sweep them up. i was just sort of taken for granted at the time, but seeing them do it in old shows NOW makes it seem pretty funny :)

no glass jaw for Watson... lol... what fabulous troupe of actors and actresses... I watch these over and over again, every night, to series end then start again... so more human and less calculating robot Holmes than others portray him as... I love all Holmes and Watson versions... but these are the best in my book... everso more realistic and believable... made of blood, flesh, and bone... (and brains) think outside the box... forget the box altogether... look at things from a completely different angle... how we should all be taught to think... take care out there everyone

A later series starring Geoffrey Whitehead as Sherlock Holmes is similar in temperament. However, Jeremy Brett (Holmes) and Edward Burke (Watson) and later Edward Hardwicke (Watson) feel more faithful to the characters as written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, at least when I read the original unabridged stories as published in The Strand Magazine. There is an enjoyable series created by two high school students in England which is a unique take on the characters. I enjoy each of the interpretations with the exception of the modern Hollywood movies.

YOU CAN SEE THIS WAS MADE IN AND AROUND PARIS CAUSE THE BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE GIVE IT AWAY PLUS I LIVED THERE A WHILE MID 1980S FABULOUS PLACE ♥️
What a bizarre order scheme, this is episode 1.
The dark red lipstick and white face powder makes some of these women look like they’re in a silent movie. Lol This series is a great way to chill out. TY ! :)
If anyone else is interested in the viewing order, I found this: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes_(1954_TV_series)

“In my interpretation, Holmes is not an infallible, eagle-eyed, out-of-the-ordinary personality, but an exceptionally sincere young man trying to get ahead in his profession. ….[My Holmes] has a more ascetic quality, is deliberate, very definitely unbohemian, and is underplayed for reality.” - Ronald Howard thanks for the link !
Excellent.
👍👍👍💕 thank you‼️
And that is how they met . I wonder if Watson has Irish blood. Hes quite a hitter (and can take quite a punch himself). He flattened that guy and that was with his "bad" shoulder ! lol.
Great first meeting for Homes & Watson.
Wish they would have made another season at least. Wonderful show!
This has to be one of the earliest in the series. Watson meets Holmes for first time and they find a flat together.
Thank you,thank you,thank you.
8:07 Sherlock Holmes the common labourer.
Good viewing. Enjoyable. Thanks
This must have been the first in the series.
Wonderful!
This series of Holmes is addictive. The modern adaptation of Jeremy brett as Holmes portays him as a quirky, eccentric man unlike this Holmes who is screen friendly.
In the VHS movie, "Young Sherlock Holmes" film==it portrays Sherlock having to go to a boys school and there he met Watson, both boys. The murders were caused by a blowpipe with LSD type on the tips which caused the victims to bring about their own deaths. Sherlock met and loved a lovely student, whose grandfathers was considered eccentric, and wild inventor. He developed a flying machine, and was killed also... There was a growing cult causing all these evil doings.. THe girl was eventually killed at the very end when all was solved, and Sherlock vowed no one would ever take her place. It was a terrifying movie to the end. Watson watched him as the carriage took Sherlock to another school. Seems strange to see the two men meet as if for the first time in this show, and the levity portrayed... Thanks for Sharing...

Young Sherlock is USA popcorn SOAP. It's not real ACD fiction. Nor are the above USA TV Sheldon Reynolds adaptions.
Have all 39 episodes. Great fun.
omw to start watching another sherlock holmes adaptation
thank you
The settings reminds me of my favourite book ever, Cranford by Mrs.Gaskell. How I wish I was born during those times. I would have been a better person..
I actually use to own these on dvd. Not quite sure what happened to them. I like how they wouls use the actor who played lestrade, sorry i can't remember how to spell his name; as other characters in some of the stories.

He was called, the actor, Archie Duncan. He appeared as Little John in the tv series `The adventures of Robin Hood'. He was awarded the Queens award for bravery for physically stopping a runaway horse and cart that was about to plow into a bunch of children who were watching how the show was made.
My favourite sherlock holmes
Wonderful l always wanted to know how they came to meet each other smashing.

Does anyone else feel Holmes has a look of Alexander Armstrong. Lol.
