SHERIFF'S OFFICE, DEPUTIES SUED OVER "EDITED" DASH CAM VIDEO

A man who beat a string of criminal charges from the Butler County (Ohio) Sheriff's Office is now suing the sheriff and two of the deputies the man said hid the only dash camera video from his arrest for more than a year. When the tape made it to the courtroom, the man says 6.5 minutes was "edited, destroyed."

This is the kind of thing that destroys people’s lives. How that is taken so lightly by 2 human beings is a disgrace. Since they are so quick to destroy someone’s life, hiding that tape should of been immediate grounds for termination and charged with obstruction and/or tampering with evidence. Destroy their lives, but they would be deserving and feel the pain.

People don't matter to government officials. Only our tax dollars and our contribution to "The Economy." There are hundreds of millions of us. They don't care if in the process of governing they destroy some of us, unjustly. That's the whole point of the Supreme Court's made-up doctrine "Qualified Immunity." Unless we have lots of money to afford fancy attorneys, we're expendable.

Whether or not a cop's qualified immunity is void would be decided by a federal court, not by some police department, and it does not matter one bit what any department has declared or done about the matter. And someone does not have to commit a CRIME to violate someone's CIVIL rights. This is exactly why EVERY SINGLE law enforcement officer should be REQUIRED by FEDERAL LAW to carry misconduct insurance. They should have to apply to, be approved by, and be annually reviewed by an IMPARTIAL panel of annually selected, randomly chosen, local resident CIVILIAN review board paid by the insurance company. If they are sued, their insurance covers the lawsuit, NOT the taxpayers. If they are found to be criminally negligent, operating in violation if their authority, they are not covered and they are sued PERSONALLY. If their carrier drops them, they lose their job. Very simple.

My thoughts on police and judge conduct. 1: Police should be licensed nationally whether they are employed by local, county or state. the license criteria must include basic rights and conduct knowledge with disability training. 2: Police should be REQUIRED to carry $3,000,000 conduct liability insurance with a minimum personal deductible of $3000. if any award is higher than the $3,000,000 then the city/county or state is liable for the balance 3: When police go above a threshold of abuse or conduct 3 times or their conduct results in arrest of the officer 1 time or the conduct insurance is exhausted the federal license should be revoked permanently. 4: All police conduct complaints should be investigated and reviewed externally by an independent organization. 5: All officers should be required to carry body cams that record and broadcast to a secure place without an on/off switch which can simply be done by the camera automatically turn on when removed from a charger. The recordings further should only be able to be seen and not erased unless done by an independent organization outside the jurisdiction and only after a completed court trial AND only after all appeals are completed or appeal times have passed. The officer should be fined if the lens is covered or the audio muffled by covering the microphone.

This is why you should have your own dashcam videos. My car is equipped with two concealed twin camera systems, one recording front and back, ghe other with the cameras concealed in the door pillars looking across the interior of the car to the opposite side front window. The recording and storage units of the systems are concealed away from the cameras and I do not inform the police of the presence of the side to side cameras. The front and back cameras while not "concealed" are also not exactly obvious but I do have a screen which shows the view from the front or rear camera depending on whether I am reversing. Dashcams can make a huge difference in your life.

I am about as pro law enforcement as they come. I've known too many fine people in Law Enforcement to think otherwise. The exception is when officers are needlessly violent, plant evidence, abuse their power & trust given to them or cover for the few bad officers who do. In that case, ALL the offending officers should be fired & given the Pete Rose raw deal. Never allowed to be a law enforcement officer again, anywhere, ever. Harsh penalty might keep an officer straight. Private business is like this, act out badly & see your career go down the tubes. Same rules should apply to all.

This is actually a good idea. And cops should always make sure dash cam and body cam are rolling. The issue with people doing this is they start recording after they piss off the cop so it puts the cop in bad light, or they dint show the part where they fuck up. If I approached someone recording I would ask if they are doing so for thier safety or mine. Because I am doing the same. I will then let them know why I pulled them over. Gove them a ticket or a warning or arrest then depending in why I did what I did. I would probably even have them record me searching thier vehicle (if given consent or have reason to search because of arrest). If I am allowed to by policy I would use thier camera to record it so they know I did nothing to thier vehicle.
