I have to say that I appreciate your open mind to sopor aeternus because there is a beauty that is overlooked in her music. It's art, fellas, regardless of gender parameters.

The genre of Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows (the complete name) is said to be "neoclassical darkwave". In my opinion, Sopor makes the darkest music I know. "Sopor Aeternus" means 'eternal sleep'.

she is very very interesting person Cantodea is transgender and identifies outside the gender binary. Reportedly, Cantodea suffered beatings at the hands of her parents, and by peers in school. At the age of six, she had an out-of-body experience while sedated during an endoscopic surgery (removal of nasal polyps). Cantodea's persona is voluntarily isolated and complicated. She has stated that she does not perform live "in front of humans". She has an affinity for the author Edgar Allan Poe, adapting his poems to music on several occasions; she is also a supporter of several activist movements, including animal rights, pro-euthanasia, LGBT rights, vegan and vegetarian efforts

Not much to add here regarding the person Anna-Varney Cantodea. The song itself talks about her "best and only" friend who is an assassin for hire. That is the strange thing she talks about because the man who makes a living of killing others is the most friendly and "human" person she knows. She admires his professionalism and hopes that one day, when she needs someone to end her life the job will be done by an expert like him not a "filthy amateur"

I think Anna is talking about a murderer who Anna either loves or just considers a good friend who makes Anna feel good when he is around, probably because he is good to Anna despite being a murderer. That's why the song is called "Strange thing to say" because most people would stay away from a murderer but since he is good to Anna, like a real friend, Anna loves his presence.

the best friend she ever had actually she is talking about "Death" or the Grim Reaper whatever you want to call it, death is one of the main elements of her music and well it is called neoclassical darkwave but other album have different genres so is no an easy classifiable music project

Here's the lyrics to the song. They are really good imo. I know it must seem to you like the strangest thing to say, but in the winter of his presence I've always felt warm and safe. I always knew no skirt no suit would ever bother me, as long as he is present, as long as this man stayed close to me. I do like his company, I enjoy it, in fact, he's the only human friend that I ever had, which is quite ironic, 'cause he's mostly occupied by the methods that exist to blow out people's lights ... I wouldn't be surprised at all, if someday I found out that he had thoroughly checked on my life and on my background, and confidently reconfirmed by the things he didn't find, he then granted me access to a small part of his secret life ... I know it must seem to you like the strangest thing to say, but in the winter of his presence I've always felt warm and safe ... I never had to worry though, it can't give me the chills, because, you see, men are the only species that he kills. Oh, that's why I love his company, quite enjoy it, in fact, he is the only human friend that I ever had. I rarely ponder on him in the wayward hours of the day, but am surprised at my own delight I find in seeing him again. White shirt, black tie, exquisite twine, I'm brewing tea, he's having wine. It's quite seductive, if it's right, the perfect way to spend the night ... I do like his company, I enjoy it, in fact, he's the only human friend that I ever had, which is quite ironic, 'cause he's mostly occupied by the methods that exist to blow out people's lights ... I never had to worry though, it can't give me the chills, because, you see, men are the only species that he kills. Oh, that's why I love his company, quite enjoy it, in fact, he is the only human friend that I ever had. Each act performed is like a ballet, a prayer, precise and acute. Oh, how I do admire such perfect business-like attitude, both in style and execution, virtuously immaculate ...- and flawlessly equated to the savage fee that he has set. Built just like the ideal of an athlete, my champion of sorts. His price is one that only broken hearts are willing to afford. Death is always quite disastrous, messy, common and obscene, but in the golden hour when he leaves all is stainless, all is clean ... If I, one day, might also decide to need this special kind of service that this man provides, oh, I will pray that my fate kindly agrees to the plot, and sends someone like this man to come and finish the job. Because I just cannot bear the foul and blasphemous thought that involves getting slain by some filthy amateur's hands. I know it must seem to you like the strangest thing to say, but in the winter of his presence I always felt warm and safe. I know that you must surely think me mad, but he's the most human friend that I ever had ...

I liked this reaction a lot hahaha. I like that even if you guys arent fans of the style and music generally speaking, you pointed out lots of interesting things to appreciate and pay attention to. I found out about this "group" around 7 years ago but barely sought out more music aside from the only song I heard and was immediately obssesed with which was In Der Palästra. I found this song last year and it has been such a joy since. Im a metalhead, but I ocassionally love weird music that isnt in the metal genre but still roams the dark and weird genres that some metal mixes with. I also love orchestras so this was just a perfect thing for me to find, paired with the strange gothic visuals, yes, perfection. I appreciate you not bashing something you were not 100% on board with but instead gave some praise for other aspects you enjoyed, and I also loved watching the guy in the right look terrified and weirded out despite vibing out during the raspy vocals segments😂

What cloud is missing it's Angel?, what ocean it's Siren?, what desert it's Snake? Flawless in all ways all at once! The single most attractive being there is. She longs for a death at the hands of a professional not a vulgar novice. She calls for release and invites the dark garden.

Guys I’m an old fart, 42 years old I have been listening to sopor aeternus since 1997 and I can tell you you chose the wrong album to reviews. Go back to his first release so that you can see what she really does. Then listen to dead lovers sarabande and work your way up the discography, you are missing out .

Anna Cantodea says that he lives with spirits around. These spirits are his friends and they are the actual band (Sopor Aeternus and the Essemble of the Shadows). He is just the vehicle to convey the music. There are no humans in the band except for Anna. The spirits compose the music, then the composition for each instrument is handed out to musicians who play the compositions for recording but they have no idea who they are playing for. Anna never performs live either.
