Shelling Lovers Key; we found a LIVE APPLE MUREX & an albino lightning whelk. Come shelling with me!
Beach lovers, it was a gorgeous day to be on the beach and we found a live Apple Murex and an albino lightning whelk. I was really surprised to find a few live lightning whelk as well and I managed to score a few sand dollars too! Here is the link to the sand dollar video I put together to tell you more about these critters and how to make sure they are safe to bring home: • Are Sand Dollars Alive...
Where ever you are, I hope you are safe and that I can bring a little beach goodness to your weekend.

All the snow birds come down here for winter and I have to start sharing my beaches. It's very sleepy down here in the summer but winter it gets pretty crowded. Good thing there are lots of beaches and beachy goodness to go around! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for sharing your videos they make having to stay home a lot easier

It was! I recently found my second live apple murex! Don't find them often, that's for sure!
Wow--that was slipper shell right next to the black scallop at 13:45! I used to find them all the time in Manasquan NJ when I was a kid. Used to call them cradle shells or mermaid slippers. Live in TX now far away from the the ocean and I "shore" am homesick ;) Love your channel & just subscribed. Thank you for creating great content & making so many of our days brighter!

Howdy Texas! Your state shell is the Lightning Whelk - which we find tons of down here! Those slippers are everywhere - all the time! I rarely take a closer look unless it's a really slow shelling day 😊 Thank you so much for letting me share my walks with you!

@@SWFBeachLife You are SO welcome! And thanks for the info on the state shell of TX. You've found some beauties. Just curious, though. Are you from the Northeast coast?

Roxy Manasquan Yes I sure am. New Jersey and Seaside Park was the Beach I’ve been to the most up there. Zero shells - which is probably why I’m so over the moon about the shells I find down here!
Lovers Key is such a pretty spot. A real gem. There is most always good shelling without the crowds of Sanibel. The best shelling is at the very south end of the beach.

Lewis Black I found the best stuff more North/Mid-Island. However, I didn’t get South until later in the morning and it’s possible all the good stuff was already taken. It is a beautiful beach though!!

They say if one would hold a crab up to your ear , you would hear what it sounds like to be latched onto by that crab. Thanks much for the vid to keep us current. Regards.

such an awesome walk..the treats and the water!
I have to admit that looking into the water, that nine armed sea star looked like a tarantula. Totally creeped me out! Lol. Spiders are my kryptonite!

Maggie Max I guess it’s a good thing the water was a little deep, otherwise we would have picked him up for a better look! I found one once that was posing all weird like a spider. Luckily we never find real spiders at the beach. That would freak me out too!

@Maggie_Max, I thought the same thing. :) The sea star is so cool looking but through that water it did look like a spider - gave me chills. Yes @SWF Beach Life, I think so too, when they are walking around it does look like a spider the way they hold their legs up a little like this one at 28:28 in this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/fq6dmqWPntC4h9Y.html - not the nine armed sea star but doing that same thing. So Beautiful!

Yes, by me they are almost all open. Still a few smaller beaches are still closed (no parking) but not a big deal - just move on to the next one. What about by you?
The water looked so good!!! Would you share in how you clean your shells??? Thanks for sharing!🐚🌴🌊

Patty Valinote Soon as I get home I wash them with water and let them dry. Then, I will soak them in a bleach/water solution when I’m ready to use them. Depending on the shell, I’ll also give them a quick swipe of mineral oil. The urchins and sand dollars I’ll paint with a glue/water solution. Thank you for watching!
Are the beaches open all day yet or still closed in the middle or the day? That water is amazing!! I should’ve gone today! Please take us with you when you go snorkeling!!!

Polinucha Most of them are the same 20 shells so I’ve learned which ones they are. Once in a while I’ll need to look one up or I’ll reach out to the Shell community to figure out what kind it is. I love learning!!
