Slick, tight, funky, melodic and well-arranged/produced. Sheena sings to the song, and keeps her formidable vocal firepower restrained. It works in this high-tech (for the time) new-jack setting. The focus is on the melody and tune; she brings it with a ton of smoldering heat.

Sheena didn't just fade away. It was the New Jack Swing genre that faded away. After the very early 1990s the same thing happened to other big name artists like Paula Abdul and Karyn White too. R&B music changed again in the mid 1990s. The albums that Sheena released after this one reversed course, not just to pop, but to stardust mode. No Strings, My Cherie, Freedom, and Home were not the type of music that people who bought Lover in Me were interested in. She tried to return to dance music with Fabulous many years later, but that album was the least successful of her career. Why? I suspect that Sheena lacked artistic direction after the huge success of Lover In Me. She had big hits when she had producers like Prince and Babyface and LA Reid behind her. She had the looks and the talent, but the songs on 'What Comes Naturally' just didn't have any salt. The label didn't like this album and didn't promote it at all. The club DJs didn't like it either. So, it flopped. None of the songs on any of the albums she did after Lover in Me had Top 40 potential, and she had to have known this. Her Top 40 career would definitely have gone on longer if she had hooked up with her former producers. But, a couple other things were happening at around this time as she has often said in interviews: She was in yet another failing marriage, and she was in the process of adopting children... I think she really didn't care all that much about being a Top 40 performer anymore.

Sheena Easton went from 'Morning Train' to 'What Comes Naturally', 'Strut', and 'Lover in Me' putting to shame any and all followers in terms of smokin' hot sexy! At the time it was considered 'racy', now it's considered smoldering sexual confidence with a touch of tease. One of the hottest female singers of our generation (sorry, Janet still takes the top spot), but I listen to Sheena almost daily on my commute.

@Isaiah King It is exactly. It was derivative even before she did it. Yet when the likes of En Vogue (and far worse) tackle it, they get plaudits. Least it sings it perfectly as she ever, which saves it. I think her sellout 1988 album is maybe the fault here, but also the way audiences and so-called tastes changed for the not-so-good 90s. 80s music had long gone, and her much better stuff continued to glow forever in that decade, and great to always revisit as its classic. Nonetheless is likely her best song out of the lot from 1991.

It’s funny when people ask that because we have ourselves to blame. New generations of listeners are what drive certain music away. Music like trends start and when they hit huge and everyone jumps in on it they reach the peak and some people grow tired of it while others try new sounds and styles and when that becomes the next best thing, people drop the other or it no longer has the momentum to keep on when newer stuff fades out the former. Therefor it’s us who don’t keep it alive and move onto the next est or new thing. Then after a long time, when we hear that old style, it transports is to a good time and memory and we miss it

I remember her going on a TV variety show to promote this song and I somehow have it associated with her last stand.... She really is the sort of chick music I like along with Shannon. Sheila and Tina Marie

Sheena's last swan song on the Hot 100 peaking at # 24 in June of 1991. The albums "What Comes Naturally" (1991) & "Fabulous" (2001) are NOT yet available on iTunes.

Sheena Easton's Hottest. Video. Ever. This one came out after a three year absence. I was in the dorm at (the University formerly known as Southwest) Texas State when I first saw her with the much longer hair. My room mate and I were both quite impressed. ^_^

@@Lasse-wf4dh He's saying 'bad', in slang, meaning she's good looking as a woman can possibly be. Which, I agree, she was (and still is) a fine lookin woman. She had me hooked in '84 with Sugar Walls'. And when 'U Got the Look' came out, I kissed the TV when I saw her. Beautiful & talented....

I love her when she became popular with "Telefone" but since she was known for her killer abs, she was just incredibly hot after her 80s image. It's like a metamorphosis to a brand new Sheena in the 90s.

I totally agree, that's what I've always said, there are two sheenas, one from the 80s with innocent and "serious" ballads and the one from the 90s with more dance pop

Something tells me a young canadian woman named Eileen Twain watched this video more than once, when she was younger . . . FACT ! Every look/ image Shania Twain has ever had in her whole career is featured in this music video, so it took a Scottish Woman to bring out Shania's inner "Woman In Me" ! Come on home Sheena . . it's been too long x x x (Home is where the heart is afterall - All can be forgiven) !
