So young, fresh, cute, wide eyed and delightful and a great voice to boot but when she sung that song "I Got The Music In Me" she brought out that inner spunk!!Sheena sure came a long way and those who doubted her from the beginning just gave her ammunition to prove herself and delivered even more and the rest is history.💯💯💕

1981 was a big year for Sheena in the US! Morning Train went to #1 followed up by Modern Girl. Then For Your Eyes Only and finished off the year with You Could've Been With which went into 1982. She won a Grammy for Best New Recording Artist in 1982. That's alot!!

1983 sheena played at the fair here in town. I got my seat VERY early in the day and sat there for 6 hours getting to watch them setting it alll up and her getting it all fine tuned for the show later. Loved just watching her work prior to the show that evening with her band and crew. Got pictures of it all around here somewhere.

Ironically, Sheena was the first British female to reach #1 in the USA after Lulu and only the third ever. She had an amazing ten year run at the top in the USA with multiple hits, Grammy wins and starring roles on TV and Broadway. She then stepped back to raise her kids and now tours singing her old hits.

It was because of her that there were so many girls named Sheena between 1981-1985 alone. After the "Sugar Walls" controversy during 1985, this name fell out of the Top 100 for 1986, and then slipped out of the Top 1000 a decade later.

I wonder if you have the follow-up special to this in your archive: "The Making of a Star" (April 21, 1981)? This was done right after "Morning Train (Nine to Five)" had been released in the U.S. in February 1981, and thus became her first, and only, American number 1 single, which she held for two weeks on our Billboard Hot 100 in May 1981. "Modern Girl" also charted in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, going to number 18 that July.

Did you see the look on Sheena’s face when that snob of a manager criticized her appearance ? She looked at her like she wanted to bitch slap her back to London Town. Lol ! 😂And how Lulu was doing the same only after Sheena was humiliated she felt sorry for her and started kissing up to her. But if you ask me and if I was sitting between those two ? I would have called both those crabs, jealous snobs. Lulu never amounted to be a bigger star internationally. Sheena was perfect in every way a new pop star could ever be and I am saying this without exaggerating. Wish I was working for the BBC at the time to laugh at the music excutive/dj for rejecting her first single she and her production team worked hard to produce. They seemed too critical at the time about a pop artist’s appearance. What were they thinking at the time ? Lol ! 😃

Had the crappiest management and promotion team EVER. That kind of voice and beauty and her career quickly went nowhere. She should still be a superstar but she's on the mid-size fair circuit and has been for many years.

I guess if you call recording a Bond theme, having #1 records around the globe, working with the likes of Prince and Nile Rodgers and selling over 20 million records going nowhere !

She released 16 singles but only had ONE number one...so you don't have your facts straight. She had a quick success and then disappeared. Bad management. Bad promotion.

I think you need to look up her history again Sheena Easton, think you got her confused with someone else lol. Many nominations and 2 Grammy awards, won few other rawards, and many hit songs after songs, recorded albums for 10 years, and she didn't disappear, she stopped to raised her children, after that she on touring.

Interesting little programme this. I've never bought any Sheena Easton records but that Round Table producer character at 35:20, behaved like a real up his own arse twat. I think this typified some of the wankers that worked at Radio 1 at that time. He could have chosen some of his words better, considering there were cameras there, and taken the record for what it was, what did he expect to hear after all ? This is only a kid trying to get her record played. This sort of stuff was Radio 1s bread and butter back then.
