Benson : "Munch says a lot, that's why Cragen sent us".
It so sad watching these old clips, seeing that they had four or five detectives, plus Cragen. Now it's just Benson, Finn, Rollins, and a new guy who might be a spy. SVU is probably one of the most successful daytime shows on now and the producers cheap out on cast.

I've loved This show since the beginning in 98. As a child that suffered abuse in every form: physical, mental, verbal and sexual. I Loved watching a show in which some sort of justice was served, most of the time. The fact that justice wasn't always achieved only made it more realistic to me. I wish and hope we have actual good police officer and detectives like I see portrayed by Benson and Munch etc.

completely. take it from someone not yet out of their teens who went through the same types of abuse, I turned to these shows as soon as I was allowed access to the internet. it’s a way to cope with what was happening by watching people get what’s coming to them. when I was younger I hoped the same thing would happen to my abusers, but it never has, and I doubt it will. now that I’m older I understand how unfair our system is in real life. I think there should be psychological studies on why victims turn to these shows so much. looking into all the possible coping mechanisms it provides. and also how many of those coping mechanisms might be unhealthy.

I saw Jane Alexander when he headed up the National Endowment for the Arts. She visited a perfromance at the Denver Center Academy, sashaying in with her large entourage, stopping the performance cold as she weilded her judgements on the school like a sword and then sashayed out. Her speech and behavior were exactly like in this clip. I think there was some type casting going on in this episode.
I just realized, those head movements by Jack at the end means he's furious.

Nope not even for a second. She's clearly lying and her family name is protecting her no matter how nonsensical her testimony is.
Watching an old episode today, I realized something, Stabler and Benson often accuse the wrong person at the beginning of most episodes (usually it is Benson)and they never apologize to the wrongly accused for doing so. Then when they do get the bad guy they are celebrated, all the while they wrongly accused someone at the beginning. In some episodes, they ruin the wrongly accused's life. That's f'd up that this show doesn't address that...they sweep it away much like an actual police dept. does. Makes me not want to watch anymore. I look at the show much differently now.
@spiritseeker3259

For sure I’m a new watcher of the show and your criticism is 100 percent right, also there’s a bit of police brutality for whatever reason. And some of that is towards wrongly accused individuals as well. It really is upsetting
@NikkiDavis

I, too look at the show a bit differently now. I used to love Stabler and root for him and Benson to get together, but rewatching the show has made me view Stabler with disgust. He's so brutal to people he thinks are the perp, and he becomes the judge and jury without looking at other possible leads. He picks and chooses when to show leniency, and it's ridiculous. How he kept his job after revealing he fantasizes about killing suspects is beyond me. The writers have also allowed Olivia to worsen her victim blindspot by believing so-called victims and never considering they would be lying. They ruined a music teacher's life because they accepted such an easy case with evidence that was practically handed to them because those little boys and their sisters couldn't possibly have been lying. I was relieved he didn't soften to them with their poor attempt at an apology, especially since all those girls got was probation.

There was never "a good sense of the law". Things were worse back then. People in privileged positions allowed themselves to be convinced that nothing was wrong because they didn't experience injustice from the police. I love this show, too, but the creators were definitely trying to paint the police in a positive light.
