Victim Avenges His Younger Self | Michael Shannon | Law & Order SVU
When the body of a seven-year-old child is found, the squad again begin to investigate convicted serial killer Lucas Biggs, believing that he molested and murdered the boy. While Biggs can detail every child he ever molested, he swears that he has no memory of this one.
Season 6, Episode 13, Quarry,
The body of a seven-year-old child reported missing in 1980 is found and the squad begins to investigate convicted serial killer Lucas Biggs (John Savage) who is on death row in Virginia. While Biggs can detail every child he ever molested, he swears he has no memory of this one. The squad learns that the boy was killed by one of Biggs' former victims (Terry Serpico) who, unbeknownst to his wife (Angelica Torn), lives a secret life as a child molester passing on the abusive habits he learned. Someone kills the suspect before he can be picked up. When a man (Michael Shannon) confesses to picking off a rapist, the detectives need to decide whether he committed the crime or whether he confessed out of trauma and shame.

The cycle of abuse can hurt so many people. It's insane.

And sometimes it can go on forever or until someone break it and sometimes it restart again.
Even after all these years, Law and Order still has a hold on us.

i think intrusive thoughts about p*dophilia by victims of it needs to be talked about more. so many people struggle with the same thing avery did, thinking they'd be the same as their abuser. im glad it was brought up in this episode

Sometimes it’s the opposite. I’m a victim and at the age of 13 I was dating people 28-43 years old. It really does need to be talked about because it can lead to so many problems like this one

It’s a huge cycle. Abusers abuse kids who become abusers who abuse kids. Just broken and turn into freaks. It’s tragic. But because it doesn’t happen in every case they’re absolutely still at fault. People can overcome it. Others choose not to

@@Jack_Ss it’s not about choosing. I grew up in abuse. For years I was an abuser myself. Nobody ever got me help. I was still being abused at the time I started abusing my family. I didn’t know any better. All I knew was “this is how you’re supposed to treat people” it’s not about choosing

Decan and Avery are foils to each other. Both were molested and both have sons, but while Decan allowed his pain to consume him and turn him into a monster that preyed on other boys including his own son, Avery fought against his pain and seeked justice, while also putting his son first by being willing to give him up so there would be no chance he could hurt him.

And while Deacon gets killed by his own wife in order to protect their son from him, Avery in the end gets to reunite with his girlfriend and their child and to experience the love and affection he had turned himself away from fearing to hurt the baby. Gosh, this is my favorite episode in SVU.

It's interesting how on tv shows, victims of SA - especially those who were young (>10) when it happens, often use words like "Touched me" "showed (they) loved me" "hurt me" "forced me" etc etc. They don't often use words like "assault" "Abuse" or other more "adult" words. It's theorized that your memory is tied to words. If you imagine an object, from when you young, most folks can only describe that object with words they knew at the time. It's just a little detail I like.

Avery reuniting with Kimber and their child is one of the most wholesome scenes i've ever seen in this show, if not in any other series I've ever watched.

The differences between Avery and Deacon is Deacon spread his pain to others including his son while Avery assured he wouldn’t allow his son to endure the same trauma. Deacon in the end choose to become like his abuser while Avery choose to be different for his family.

@@CJ37.125 Biggs (the jailed creep) molested Deacon, who in turn molested Avery. Avery sent Olivia a picture to let her know of Deacon but they initially thought it was about Biggs. Avery confronted Deacon after discovering Deacon was still abusing boys, to kill him, but couldn't bring himself to do it. Deacon's wife discovered the truth and killed him. Avery tried to get himself thrown in jail because he's afraid that he will turn out like Deacon and Biggs because they were abused, which led to them abusing others, and he fears he will have the same urge to abuse his own son.
