Or for example the fact that Blair in 97 won a landslide with a smaller popular vote (13,518,167) than Major got in 1992 which was not a landslide (14,093,007)

Money primarily drives it. Doctors in the US have stated that for every person you can medically transition to the opposite sex (castration or double mastectomy coupled with lifetime dependence on opposite sex hormones) you have created a patient for life. So money drives the market in getting people to transition and that money corrupts politicians who create favourable environments/legal frameworks to facilitate the industry. Also, activist wealthy people through NGOs/non-profits (the majority of NGOs are lobby groups, not charities in the way that most people would think of a charity) finance pressure groups that meet with and influence governments. Their activism is not always money driven; sometimes it's ideological or a 'God complex' and wanting to leave their mark on the world. (Definition of God complex: a pattern in which an individual believes they have great power, ability, infallibility, influence, and are superior to others.)

If Labour get into power, all male prisoners can identify as female and be facilitated in a move to the female prisons. The female prisoners will have to be moved out to make room. They can then be housed in the male prisons; at least until the men want to join them again. And it's mostly women who argue for this. Ask Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland or Helen McEntee, Minister for Justice, Ireland.
