    state of pennsylvania doesn’t require a license to tattoo and some of the best work i’ve had done was by people without apprenticeships (blood borne pathogens test is required though). plus apprenticeships often result in an artist getting complete advantage taken of them, honestly more often than not. i think you can get knowledge about tattooing and in person experiences with other artists that aren’t full apprenticeships and still be okay if you do enough research. i’ve been more comfortable at in-home studios with said artists than in the full tattoo studios with the ones who are certified (and some of the tattoos by the ones without certification are even better). but this is also pennsylvania specific.

    I think the fear is that the internet can get so toxic. It’s one thing to call out a business as a warning, or leave a bad review, but on a very public platform that can lead to death threats or doxxing by the audience. It can also result in the same response from supporters of that business back at you (general you) for making the video in the first place. I’m not saying that means people shouldn’t ever mention names, but I understand why so many people decide not to.

  • @samanthaabreu782

    @samanthaabreu782

    That's just because of the legal implication of it. You can be sued for the harm you caused to the reputation of the person or business. My lawer told me that, in private you can say whatever you want, even if it's rude, but if you vent in public it can harm you legally.

  • @amypanddirtytoo1926

    @amypanddirtytoo1926

    10 ай бұрын

    @samanthaabreu782 it can only harm you legally if what you said wasn't true. If all you do is mention the facts then they have nothing over you. If it harms the finances of the business AND it wasn't just the facts or even straight out lies then you lose a defamation suit.

    @@amypanddirtytoo1926That and the internet has a particular loathing towards assertive, direct people. You can't say "check out this photo of myself I took, I look great in it and love the effort I put into the pose" You say "look at this candid shot a stranger happened to take of me, I had noooo idea lol I wasn't even ready for it I just rolled out of bed an hour ago how crazy is that???" If someone had the audacity to post on the internet "this person/business was awful to me and I don't recommend them because what happened to me could be part of a pattern of behavior", they would get accused of dogpiling. You _have_ to play the charade of having strangers tease the name out of you to keep your side of the slate squeaky clean. It's stupid, and I've been seeing it start to fade away in recent years, but it's very much still alive and well.

This tattoo has ONE LINE that blew out while he was doing it and it’s honestly a really bad and noticeable blowout, HOWEVER, it is the most beautiful piece of artwork I have on my body. It took 5.5 hours, this was 6 years ago and it’s still my favorite tattoo I have. Not only that, but the artist still loves it too!! He has used it on ads for conventions he’ll be at and it’s on the second page of his portfolio in the shop! It is such a gorgeous tattoo and I feel so lucky to have it on my body. All that being said - people make mistakes, skin is a difficult canvas to work on, but a real artist won’t let that happen to an ENTIRE tattoo.

    You could just get the blown out bits lasered. A friend of mine only got that done and didn't touch any of the line of the original tattoo besides a tiny sliver where the blow out warped the linework. Got that part of the linework touched up and it all looks great now. .

    “TikTok famous” should be the first red flag. It’s disappointing that so many tattooers using social media to deceive people and just overall set unrealistic expectations for their clients. If you see a tattoo online that doesn’t look like anything you’ve seen in real life, it’s probably because it’s not real. So many of the best artists I know are not particularly invested in social media. Edit to add: wow, that is just really, really bad… no excuse. If I did work like that, I just wouldn’t tattoo.

    This happened in my city! I booked in with her to get 2 small dots under my eyes tattooed and she charged me around $300 from memory and it took her about an hour to do which is insane to me. I've heard quite alot of negative things about Daisy too. One being that she started from PMU and transitioned into smaller body tattoos without going through with an apprenticeship also while being unlicensed for awhile. In Australia you legally need to have a tattoo license issued by the government along with your infectious diseases qualification. I always thought something was 'off' about her and I guess this shows her true colours.

  • @mori8764

    @mori8764

    10 ай бұрын

    I also should clarify. Daisy definitely has a tattoo OPERATOR license which is a legal requirement if you are opening a tattoo shop. It also isnt a requirement rn in Australia for PMU artists to have a tattooist liscense (although it should be and I heavily recommend anyone doing PMU to get it anyway). So as far as I know, Daisy has had a tattooist license until awhile AFTER she started doing body tattooing from PMU. Lovesick also has no senior artists and from what I've seen from my experience there, Daisy kind of just lets the artists do whatever tf they want despite most of them being apprentices or very new artists. Also Daisy has allowed a certain artist who I wont name to guest in her shop who has been fired from MULTIPLE tattoo shops around Brisbane for a multitude of reasons, one of those being stealing supplies and openly making fun of others artists transgender client in the shop. It doesn't surprise me that she surrounds herself with shitty people and people should 100% stay the absolute fuck away from her and her shop.

    My best friends artist made a mistake in the linework. Pretty much tattooed a line a bit too long because the stencil was weird in that part. It's a huge piece and this happened towards the end of the long session. As soon as my friend noticed and messaged her artist that woman came up with ways to rectify it. No excuses. They did fix it together during the next session, it was only a small error and you really can't see it now. Nothing like this massive ugly snake. Didn't she see the drawing before? Or the stencil on her actual body? Or the ink pots? If the artist didn't want to tattoo what she asked for, why didn't they communicate it or refuse to do it? I'm just going to say it, Daisy is not a nice person. I used to watch some of her videos. Over time I'd see her responses to her subscribers comments and sometimes they were quite rude. The way she treated her audience really rubbed me the wrong way. If this is how she treated the people that supported her how did she treat everyone else? She puts herself up on a pedestal like she's better than everyone else. When I recently saw that she was tattooing i was so confused. Because I remember her very clearly saying she could never be a tattoo artist because she can't draw and doesn't have an artistic bone in her body. It makes me wonder, is Andrew drawing everything up and she's just tracing the lines? I also remember her being quite snarky and rude towards you Lauren. She used to do a series where she would judge her subscribers tattoos. She was ruthless. She held nothing back. Well around that time you started your series of reacting to and sharing your subscribers tattoos. And i remember her making some comments that you stole her concept. Frankly the only thing they had in common was the fact that subscribers shared their tattoos. Overall they felt very different. Yours was a safe space where we could all come together and share our love for the art form. Daisy's was all about whether she liked your tattoo or not. And if she didn't she had no problem telling you exactly how she felt. I'm glad you were finally able to share your experience. You're certainly not the first or sadly, the last.

It’s sad that they don’t have respect for peoples skin and the tattoo industry/doing apprenticeships let alone supporting their staff. I'm really grateful you brought up your personal experience because it feels very genuine and sincere to preface a commentary-critique with, like, your own frame of bias, you know? It lets those of us watching understand that you hold a certain perspective based on past experience, so that we can--well, observe your journalism more objectively, if that makes sense? Anyway, that just felt so responsible of you and I wanted to pay my respects to that decision, haha 🌺🌺

    I’m a tattooer in the US and I would be absolutely mortified if any of my clients came to me and said they were unhappy with my work. I take extreme pride in my tattoos, and I work really hard to make sure that I am giving the client what they want while also applying my knowledge as a tattooer to give them the best possible outcome. It really is a collaboration between the artist and the client, and it makes me so sad to see tattoo artists that genuinely don’t care about their clients’ opinions. Coverups can very much be a trust the process kind of project, but this lack of technique is inexcusable. If you can’t pull a clean line, you can’t do a coverup, and you most certainly shouldn’t be tattooing. I could understand if it was one or two little spots because mistakes happen, we are human, and usually things like that are easily corrected during the next session. I hate that she had this experience, but I hope she’s doing much better now.

    I had a similar experience with a tattoo artist here in U.K. The woman who tattooed me made so many mistakes on two tattoos that she did in the same time frame - one on each arm. On the half sleeve piece she did a background dotwork pattern of the flower of life, it goes around my arm and that was extremely badly done was completely mismatched and the dotwork was terrible- she also did line work around the dotwork pattern for some reason. When I raised my concerns, the artist didn’t apologise at all and said that I didn’t give clear enough instructions and that it seemed that I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted. All this happened just before the pandemic and she said that her colleague at the studio would contact me after lockdown and he would fix anything. I of course didn’t hear back from them and the whole experience was horrible - this is a very short version of the whole story. Anyways I’m now in the process of going over the tattoo, done by a different studio and artist, to fix some the fixable mistakes and had to spend more to do this obviously. All the artists that looked at the original tattoo, all couldn’t believe how badly done it was. The artist I’m working with now is an apprentice and is a 100x better artist than the original artist was even tho she had 10yrs experience at the time. The original artist is actually from Brisbane too but was working in a studio in Milton Keynes at the time I got my tattoo.

    @@sparagmos4748 yeah there’s two apprentices at the studio I’m going to and their work is so good! My artist does work a little slow but she had to black out the crappy dotwork that was there and good black work can take time. Overall I’m extremely happy with corrective work that the apprentice has done. I’m going back to her for many more tattoos to come for sure, she’s great. The studio is top notch too, she gets great guidance from the owner. I couldn’t afford the other more experienced artists tho but they’re not stupidly expensive, I’m just a poor! Their prices are fair for their work tho.

    Unfortunately, I will have to watch the rest of the video later as I have to go to work soon, but I do want to say that Lauren's facebook group is absolutely the best facebook group I've ever been in - and I've been in a lot! The mods are absolutely fantastic, the members are just as great, the whole vibe is supportive and wholesome and as a minority (ethnic, disability, gender identity AND sexuality-wise), I have considered it one of my very few online safe spaces for years. Don't get me wrong, I'm also in other great groups, but there's just something about Lauren's facebook community that I love and there is never any drama in it. Edit to add: I'm not a mod in the group, just a regular pleb who appreciates the atmosphere of the group that Lauren and the mods have consistently maintained.

    I watched daisy for years and watching her go through waves with social media has been so weird. When I watched her on YT she went by daisy Lola, then changed all her socials to daisy foxglove, then disappeared, came back as a cosmetic tattooer/esthetician situation??, deleted her personal instagram, started lovesick studios saying she doesn’t want to do esthetics anymore, then started going by daisy lovesick, got famous on TikTok, deleted all the videos of her TikTok and Facebook, and now has made another personal insta. Someone made a fake acc of her on TikTok and everything seems to be going down the drain for her. She seems to be a very volatile person which is a damn shame

I used to follow Daisy and I also unsubscribed from her channel because she seemed unnecessarily harsh. I remember when she told her skripper stories and her tattoo tour with the backstory of her unfinished mermaid tattoo (she beefed with the artist apparently). She used to say she was bad at drawing so I was surprised when she started tattooing. I'm so sorry for Christina, I hope she can get a partial refund.

    As a tattoo artist if you dont have the skill to do a tattoo you will lose out on far more work ATTEMPTING to do the tattoo than passing it up. People will avoid your shop for a long while if you put out trash work. If you practice, get better, and gain skill over time, you will get many more clients. If you have the stain of trash tattoos hanging over you, regaining trust is far harder when you do have the skill set. I hope that made sense, im very sleep deprived haha.

    For every 1 good tattoo artist, there are 100 bad ones like this one, unfortunately. Extremely unbalanced, unregulated profession. The health board should have more input. There should be ACTUAL classes, like in a trade school. Apprenticeship is a joke, and it's just an excuse for (most) tattoo artists to just use the "apprentice" as a slave more or less. If I have to take a 1200 hour course to be able to give someone a HAIR CUT WHICH IS TEMPORARY, there needs to be regulations on Tattoo Artists. It's not fair that you can permanently scar someone up with no real training.
