Thank you for being humble enough to say that you don't know much about our hair, and that you were willing to learn from those who DO know. I can't tell you how may hairdressers have told me they have experience with my hair, only to completely ruin it with the wrong products or processes.

He seems very humble and since the proportion of black people in the Netherlands is not that large he probably would have found little opportunity to learn. And he admitted his logic was faulty. But seriously I thought the same thing, all my friends with dark hair (black or not) have really thick hair compared to mine and they all believed this myth too that thick equals strong. It's a natural conclusion to come to, but still incorrect😂 My fair hair might be thin af but at least you'll see my gray much later. Counting my blessings.

One sign of intelligence is when you can openly admit you don't know everything and that there is always room for growth and learning. I think it's admirable that you willingly tell us when you aren't familiar with something, as it gives us all an opportunity to learn and challenge ourselves! So, last week while I was having my hair done, there was a car accident right in front of the salon. Being that I'm a nurse, my body switched into autopilot and I jumped up and ran outside to help the injured people, totally forgetting I had a head full of foils that were due to be rinsed.😬 As if there wasn't enough going on, there was a dog in one of the cars and he jumped out the window and into my arms. Thankfully there were only minor injuries, but because I didn't want to leave the dog out there without a leash, I was out in the sun for about 30 minutes... My hair stylist was a little bit panicky, begging for me to get back inside so she could rinse my hair. Thankfully, there were only minor injuries to my hair as well, but boy am I BLONDE! 😉 I bet the cops, EMTs, and firemen got a kick out of me! I looked like some kind of bizarro superhero with metal hair and a backwards cape. We had a good laugh about it afterwards but my hair stylist said if it ever happens again she'll hold me down in the chair. 😉 She said "Next time I'm gonna hold you down and get someone else to lock us in 'cuz you're not going ANYWHERE!". I love her and how much concern she has for the well-being of my hair. She's a keeper, for sure!👍💈 Happy New Year everyone! I know it's not a very high bar to clear, but let's try to make 2022 better than 2021! 🍾🥂

I was about 23 yrs old& just finishing university & as I got off the bus a man in his 50' s on a motorcycle literally had a massive heart attack & landed in the road in front of me..Thank fuck I.didn't have a full head of foils like you did as I.performed CPR on that man & kept his heart going until the ambulance crew could save his life..Well done to you & I' m sure that little dog must have been so scared too :( xx

From what I've seen of African hair, IT'S MAGICAL, but you really have to know what you're doing. You have to treat it right, use the right tools, and use the right products; if not, you can duck it up BIG TIME! Care for it with the respect it deserves and it'll look beautiful!

I bleached streaks in my relaxed hair once. It fell out blonde strand by blonde strand over the course of a month until all the blonde pieces were out or broken. Looked great the day I did it. Looked not so great 3 weeks later. Took years to recover. Should've just cut it all off and went natural at that point, but I didn't. Just learned that bleach and relaxers are basically Nair.

Omg noooo!!! I relaxed my hair once. My hair was shoulder length. I called professionals asked questions could i dye it black after relaxing. THEY TOLD ME YESSSS??? I was so happy at the time. So in the same day i used a box dye on my hair. Well my hair went gummy. I knew it was dead. I cut the gummy slime off my head. I put a bandana on and went to the only salon open. A chain salon. I ended up with a Halle Berry pixie cut. And oh wow. Never again would i mix those again. Dont do iiit. The cut was cute tho.

I tried it. Luckily with waste hair from a brush. I used volume 5 or 10% developer, bleach diluted in conditioner and with Olaplex. And, my hair melted. Diluting slows it down to maybe 30 minutes or so there might have been enough time to apply it, but it’s dicey still. (Also, I have fine, porous hair.). Even try it without bleach. Point is, try it with waste hair from a comb or brush.

If she were my friend , I would lift all the mids to ends to that beautiful plum shade coming through, then fill in that blond band with a demi plum color, and leave those dark roots. Then, slowly every so many weeks, continue to lift the ends as much as we could get it * and give it a style and trim. Then start lifting the 6 inches of regrowth from the scalp. And maybe even leave those bangs with that blond into red, they could be a look

Oh man, the only person I know who relaxed their hair had straightened it with hair straighteners for years before, then they relaxed it, and it was so so damaged. Then when they styled it with a straightener, it got really noticeably broken. They went for a style a bit like Michael Burnham in the Star Trek Discovery pilot episode, and eventually went to short and curly when the relaxer grew out.

Asking your clients a bajillion times if they’ve used box dye sounds a lot like how in healthcare we have to ask our patients in creative ways whether they use certain drugs, drink a lot of alcohol, have certain medical conditions, etc. and they are usually not forthcoming the first time, especially when it comes to using illicit drugs. And as a medical student, they almost never tell me the truth, but will open up when the doctor asks them, so then I look stupid 😂🙄. But seriously, we aren’t asking to judge, we are asking because it really affects your course of treatment if you use certain drugs/alcohol!!!

A friend of mine let my neighbor bleach her hair (this was over 20 years ago) and she used foils. After maybe 20 minutes my friend's scalp was smoking. I guess maybe it was steam? Either way her gorgeous thick, medium blonde hair was fried and falling out. Completely ruined her hair. At least we were young at the time and her hair recovered relatively quick.

I have relaxed hair and have in the past bleached my hair myself light enough to put a mix of pastel blue and purple fashion colors over it. It was sections, not the whole head. It's possible but a lot went into it and I did a lot of research. I didn't bleach until 3 months after my relaxer and I did not relax my hair for 6 months after the bleach, I did two sessions a week apart (my hair lifts fairly easy), only used a 20 volume developer, toned and because my niece is a cosmetologist I was able to use olaplex. It turned out really well but I made sure to really take care of it with deep conditions and protein treatments. It's grown out now cause it was years ago but I love hair color and definitely plan on doing another color here soon.

I would say that as a child my curly hair was very strong. It was only after heat damage, box dye damage, using cheap bleach, and not cutting my dead ends frequently enough... that my hair is now very delicate. At this point I have to use specific leave in conditioners, do bond building treatments, and avoid heat.

I tell every stylist I meet to follow you - just had my haircut by a new 'stylist' and she left me a mess... *sigh* - I will try again with someone else, but honestly I wonder about the quality of stylists on the market in the US these days...

My state must really be poor at training stylists because every one that cut my hair that trained here messed it up The first question I ask at consultation is where they trained.

You crack me up and I love how you fuss like you are there talking to them and they aren't listening haha! I do my own hair but I know what I'm doing and use all professional products. FYI I foil my hair and yep it's difficult but I use good quality foils! I don't get using that thick kitchen foil and crunching it that just causes the product to move and creates spots!

She needed a lot more bleach. I bleach my nieces hair which she is biracial so her hair is very curly and thick. You definitely need to do it more than one session and use a lot of bleach and watch it very closely. However I think she looks great with the dark hair. 💖

Being biracial doesn't necessarily mean that someone has thick hair.. Or even curly hair... That's not how genetics work, it can mean those things and videos online often show that but I've known biracial people with thin hair, kinky or straight hair, full and straight etc.. It depends..

@@michalovesanime sure. Ethnicity doesn't say everything about every human being because there are many other factors. For example, hypothyroidism can affect hair but I don't have any issues. Every categorization works like that, the thing is to start from the categorization and then let people express themselves and let them show their peculiarities and differences.
