Any now you begin to understand why government corruption is so hard to root out. You know it's wrong, I know it's wrong, he knows it's wrong, the judge knows it's wrong. But it's the way it's done, so everyone just expects it and goes along with it. There's so much inertia that it takes a long time and a lot of effort to root out this sort of corruption. Change will happen slowly, not overnight. Remember this next time you see something about corruption in Mexico, or Italy, or Russia, or Asia, and catch yourself thinking how pathetic they are. We're the same. It's nothing to do with the country, we're just further down the road of cleaning up the corruption than they are.

It's been years since I last had one but I've wondered about this sort of thing before when I've gotten a sundae at McDonalds. Peanuts for the sundae are in a sealed packet that they give you to add to it yourself, and I wasn't being messy with it and had the tray from my meal under it anyway as I added them. But I had this thought, who knows how good the employees are about coming around to clean up after people leave (have to set the bar pretty low there, with some of the messes I've seen left behind before I came in that were still there by the time I left)... so just how sensitive might someone with a peanut allergy be to whatever dust residue I might have left behind on that table (however much it looked like I left behind a clean table because if I noticed as I got up that I did leave any crumbs of anything behind I would've swept them onto the tray)? I have heard before that food allergies can be pretty brutal, but I just wondered in that moment just where exactly the line would actually be.

I just don't get why people with severe allergies would ever feel like it's a good idea to put their health in the hands of complete strangers. Even if you're dealing with a company with strict cross contamination policies and workers who actually care about what they're doing, (both are relatively rare in my opinion,) mistakes can still happen. And while it's perfectly reasonable to expect something like a cheeseburger to come without peanuts on it, if just the dust can cause you problems you really can't expect them to make your food in a medical grade clean room or that something could never get made incorrectly by some kid who's just started the job. I think the OP has the right idea, better not to put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation in the first place.

Given my firsthand experience working as a server at a restaurant (Denny's, so kind of in that fuzzy overlap of fast food, diner and chain restaurant), I would never in a million years eat out _anywhere_ if I or a family member had a severe allergy. - Very half-assed approach to allergy concerns and cleaning in general, even if we spelled it out clearly on the order tickets AND doublechecked with them verbally. They might clean whatever area of the grill they were using but I doubt they'd clean their utensils/cooking implements or wash their hands. In fact I could probably count on two hands the amount of times I EVER saw cooks wash their hands in almost 3 years. - Some servers would make stuff up on the spot if they didn't know or just blatantly lie when customers might ask ingredient related questions (ie "is there x in dish y?"). - And for nuts in particular, none were used in the kitchen but in Front of House, the amount of peanut butter we used was truly ridiculous - there was both chocolate peanut butter pancakes we had to prepare and a similar flavor of milkshake. Technically there was a separate blender container for the peanut butter ones but some people ignored that when we got slammed. And I can tell you for sure we didn't always have time to be 100% clean about it so it's very likely at least a little peanut residue was getting spread around throughout a shift. - What's more, many of the dishwashers were terrible at their job and the machine was often on the fritz so they'd sometimes send out "clean" dishes still caked with a little bit of whatever previous thing served in/on it. I would send them back if I saw them but I can't say for certain that all my coworkers would have done the same. So even if you got a completely different milkshake or plate of pancakes it was completely possible there would be some trace amount of peanut butter on it. Honestly, I'm surprised in all my time there that I didn't ever witness an allergic reaction. I don't know if that place was typical of the industry or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Sad reality is that officer would've been shunned/fired. A famous case is former Officer Christopher Dorner. Man literally being racially discriminated at the start of his career and they do nothing. Eventually he calls the "anonymous whistle blower hotline" his called gets intercepted for him calling out his corrupt partner. He gets fired, loses everything and kills his Captains daughter amongst other officers. Plus, qualified immunity plays a HUGE role in how these assholes behave due to them having a LITERAL get out of jail free card.

Somewhat separate jurisdictions, but the higher ups in both would probably be buddy-buddy enough that if the sheriff got pissed off about being ticketed he could probably truly make the officer's life hell. (This is why you can tell the cop is so unsure of what to do in the video). The sad part is it's obvious the whole thing would have been a sham anyway: just give his license, the guy would glance at it for two seconds then send the sheriff on his way with a weak meaningless "warning". Just enough activity to show he was doing his job but with no actual consequences beyond a couple minutes of delay from the stop. But the egomaniac sheriff couldn't even pay lip service to that process of pretending to go along with the act. Truly a pathetic jackass abusing his power. We should also note that he was forced to later visit the station and give what was very obviously a forced and insincere "apology".

My state got so butt-hurt about it they would station informants in the parking lots of the fireworks vendors to note all license plates from my state, and radio the information to police waiting at all major and secondary roads back into the state so they knew who to pull over and fine.

I really don't understand peoples' love of fireworks. It's not just the noise, or that I'm older now and it no longer holds any interest for me. The MAIN reason they concern me now is the past FEW summers we have had some absolutely GOD AWFUL forest fire seasons, and on more than one occasion, fireworks were involved. I'm in Oregon, btw. Shit's getting hotter and hotter every year, and it seems like the fires get more and more widespread as well. I remember not long back we couldn't open our windows or doors because the sky was so covered in smoke and smog that it was considered toxic. idk if it's valid everywhere, but imo fireworks can get fucked. They're not worth the danger. And in LA? I mean, I know it's a city and all, but idk, seems like anywhere in California should just have that shit banned on principle.

@@icarusfluffybottom899 I grew up in Southern California (about 14 miles south of LA), and people are saying it's a drought....it isn't. California has always been a desert 🏜, but thanks underground water reservoirs it became an oasis. The thing about climate change is that the water from the reservoir has dried out returning Cali to its desert state. Mix that in with the fact that the American government had made it illegal for Native Americans to practice their traditions which included culling the natural underbrush which makes the wildfires so bad (+150 years). I'm also a military veteran and I listened to the fireworks every year. While normally I can just wear headphones and a pair of earmuffs, sometimes a neighbor gets the bright idea of setting off the REALLY BIG Ones and I start having flashbacks. I did hear that someone is working on a soundless firework, where you see the flash, but there's no loud boom.

Any medical bills incurred as a result of him buying the smoothie are entirely his responsibility. He knew his child has a peanut allergy. Surgeon, however, tells you that had he not had a rotation that particular day, your child most likely would have died from the infection they kept denying he had.....and you can't have direct physical contact because you risk contracting his infection and dying yourself. Then they had the nerve to send me a bill for $48,000 for his time spent in ICU, all the tests and the eventual anti-biotics and home health nurse that had to take care of him for 14 days. I think I'd have been well within my rights to react far worse than this guy did.....

That firework display is what happens in Reykjavik Iceland every New Years. Not out of defiance, but because the emergency services in Iceland sell them as a fund raiser for their annual expenses.

1:30 from what my cousin told me, technically NO. Not even a sheriff should be speeding unless its an actual emergency, and my cousin is a deputy sheriff himself. Not even the sheriffs department is above the law, especially when it comes to local law enforcement.

idk about America, but from where I'm from, the only moment the police is allowed to go above traffic laws is if they have their sirens and lights on (obviously for emergency reasons) same goes for Ambulances and Firefighters

People's instinct is to run when others are running. There is a story where, within a subway, there were people running away from something and this panic caused injury. What happened? A woman was scared of a rat.

She dropped them it wasn't theft. Losing her 80$ earbuds through her own carelessness is called "Consequence of your actions". Had she not been enraged over something stupid like she was, most people would have picked them up and returned them to her immediately or at the very least caught her attention to point out that she had dropped them.
