Thank you for the information. It seems that she converted to Islam 'because I was promised numerous rewards in the afterlife and that I’ll be taken care of by men'. I find it strange and unnerving that conversion to any religion can come about because of promises with a complete lack of evidence, but I accept that this is indeed the case for many people. Why are we poor humans so ready to believe in this way?

Why is Islam based on several different unrelated books anyway, only one of which is considered by Muslims to be Allah's word? Don't Muslims find that suspicious, or at least curious? Other religions seem to have one book, or at least a compilation of equally valued books.

No, they don't, because they justify it easily. They say that Allah has made revelations of ALL people before Muhammad but that they all corrupted these revelations, however, there were "some" truths still left and that's why the Quran sound some older texts. The books of other religions are also based on older myths, legends and ideas. In the Judeo-Christian tradition for example you have many ancient local myths that creep in, which are written in other texts (for example, the flood story is found in Gilgamesh, Genesis is full of Mesopotamian creation myths, etc). @@tombuddy100

... Sometimes .... This has become a very popular thing to say on Ex-Muslim forums. It echoes the exact thing said by countless ex- Christians for the past fifty years or so. "I became an atheist because I actually read the Bible". Often said. Often true. BUT I've learned that people join and remain with religions for psychological and social reasons. It's not really a matter of Reason alone. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who has a rational explanation for why they participate in any religion. So, yes, some people do read holy books and remain devout. So that little motto might not be as great as it sounds. It only applies to people who have emotional or social reasons to depart a religion.

Taqiyya (also spelled taqiya, taqiyah, or taqiyyah) is a form of Islamic deception. The Quran (16:106 and 3:28) allows Muslims to lie in order to protect themselves or to protect the Muslim community. Protecting the Muslim community, however, involves lying about jihad and portraying Islam as a religion of peace. From The Qur’an: Qur’an (16:106) - Establishes that there are circumstances that can “compel” a Muslim to tell a lie. Qur’an (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to “guard themselves.” Qur’an (9:3) - “…Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters…” The dissolution of oaths with the pagans who remained at Mecca following its capture. They did nothing wrong, but were evicted anyway. Qur’an (40:28) - A man is introduced as a believer, but one who must “hide his faith” among those who are not believers. Qur’an (2:225) - “Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts” Qur’an (66:2) - “Allah has already ordained for you, (O men), the dissolution of your oaths” Qur’an (3:54) - “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.” The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same. (See also 8:30 and 10:21) Taken collectively these verses are interpreted to mean that there are circumstances when a Muslim may be “compelled” to deceive others for a greater purpose.

Catholics have 40 days of penance in Lent. Some of us turn it into 40 days of fasting as well as other kinds of penance. But telling others what you are doing as penance or fasting during Lent is often seen as boasting. You're expected to not mention anything unless you have to for a good reason, like someone offering you food or inviting you to do something you decided to abstain from. Aside from that, only a spiritual director can know all a catholic chose to do during that period.

Then I figured it takes more or less a year studying the religion, doesn't matter if you were raised learning the Bible, the will teach it from ZERO as if you knew nothing. And then at the end they finally get us through the initiation rites. For me they accelerated it because I was studying so much by myself at home. But I got this feeling like as if they really wanted me to know what I'm getting myself into, making sure I knew all important aspects of the faith and practices and theology and I was really doing something I wouldn't regret and for the correct reason.

@JeantheSecond-ip7qm It was made by humans. In a sense. From my viewpoint, as a catholic, these humans received divine instructions, revelations, prophecies, and one of these humans was divine. And all of it aided by miracles to convince people. But when we look at history, it seems many people converted because they studied philosophy and thus ethics. And they comparing the teachings of it with all else they got, they noticed it was superior in that sense. For example, a lot of things the Greek philosophers got right, on morality, but they didn't realize slavery was bad. This teaching of slavery being wrong was brought to the world through a religion. There was also the fact that this religion resulted in lots of things that brought more development, for example, a better understanding of intrinsic human dignity, and value, indepent of who they are, institutions like hospitals, orphanages, elderly homes, schools, universities... teachings that people shouldn't objectfy each other, love one another, care for one another... these are things that got introduced deeply into our society through Christianity. Not even to mention that the father of science was Albertus Magnus, dominican friar, and professor of none less than St. Thomas Aquinas. And science flourished by these first universities they helped get started.

You see, I criticized Islam because its vetting processes are really terrible. This isn't a fundamental problem in Islam, per se. If I wanted to criticize Islam fundamentally, I would highlight that Islam's marriage doctrines are a clear violation of Natural Law, and therefore can't be from God. I would argue that the test for affirming the Qur'an's legitimacy is worthless, meaning that it fails basic scrutiny. I would simultaneously argue that Islam invests far too much interest in the worldly pleasures, such as the case where men are given 72 virgin women, who, according to hadith commentary, will miraculously be turned back into virgins when used. I would argue that Muhammad's revelations as per what is seen in the Hadith are just too convenient to be from God, in that Muhammad sounds like a 7th century Joseph Smith. If I wanted to criticize another religion (Islam) fundamentally, I'd probably begin with much of that material.

Conversion to a new religion is not to be taken lightly. I see evangelists and people giving dawah have the same issue where there is almost an immediate pressure to give your life to Jesus/take the shahada an this I think it unhelpful as there not an opportunity to learn for yourself what it is you're getting into or learn in depth the requirements of the faith or history of the faith. I grew up Protestant but now I am learning about Orthodox Christianity. Before anyone converts into the faith, catechesis is required before you are accepted. It is big commitment to follow into any faith so why rush? Take the time to learn and read into the history and the religious, pray and know God for yourself. Not because a street preacher or imam said so.

Protestant churches used to have catechism to teach people the faith. Unfortunately, for some reason, the churches moved away from this. Before fundamentalism became a dirty word with a different meaning, I would have said I was a fundamentalist. As in, I learned the fundamentals/roots of my faith and believe in them. But too many accretions got attached to the word, and it became sort of meaningless even an insult. I never liked revivals where, after one sermon, people were called to the alter to get "saved." Most of the people got their official "salvation" and went home to live as they had been, never saw a church or learned anything about this "salvation." Really, they were cheated.

@@wotizit I'm not sure if it's a joke or a misunderstanding? I meant to say "The problem that Islamists have with Muslim women swimming is not just about the fear that women might show their bodies while doing so. Since many women in fact swim without showing their bodies since they are wearing burkinis." I 100% do not believe that swimming REQUIRES to show your body. I want everyone to live happy healthy lives and feel comfortable while doing so. Since the human body requires us moving it in order to stay fit and swimming is a very unique kind of movement (it can't be substituted by another kind of movement) I want Muslim women to be able to go swimming in whatever swim wear or setting they feel comfortable with. So I 100% support women wearing burkinis or just swimming at a private pool ❤ Also: If people think that swimming in itself requires other people seeing their bodies in an inappropriate way then I'm convinced that they also must perceive women's bodies to be inappropriate when they are doing groceries in public in abaya and niqab. Those are the kind of people who think that women should just stay at home or only travel in a car with black windows. They are consistent in their beliefs 👍 I mainly criticize people accepting veiled Muslim women in public in an abaya while criticizing Muslim women who swim at a private pool with no other person present. I hope that clarifies things 👍

I am a Muslim and I am proud to be a Muslim, many people convert to Islam lately, everyone has their own reasons why, saying the Shahadah is easy, but staying on the right path is a challenging, and the weak people will always choose the easier path, unfortunately. You know, Islam is a beautiful religion, it's a complete life changing. Those who pray, read the Hadiths and the Qur'an do not care about how others live their lives, or what they thinking about us. Many people find it difficult to overcome this e.g. "yes I am a Muslim but I cannot wear hijab because of what people will think" so when difficulties come into their lives (anyone's life) then Allah tests how persistent we are, how we react to the situation, pray for ease or, as you can see in the video, turn away from Islam. May Allah forgive them and guide them back to the right path. Inshallah

I lost my wife and my daughter pretty much too. I couldnt even give my daughter away at her wedding because I wasnt muslim. Some random man was "asigned" to be her wali. Crazy thing is I had a son who was the first to leave islam and I treated him the same way. So I nee what to expect and couldn't really get that mad. All religion, including islam, but also Christianity needs to be irradicated. Because when me and my wife became muslim, we were treated incredibly horrible by our christian families. My sister stopped talking to me and told my mother to tell me not to come to the hospital when she was giving birth to her first child. In the middle of labor, she had enough hate in her heart to where Preventing me from being there was on her mind. So much jeaus love *sarcasm* religion is bullshit. All of it. If men and women are meant to be innately and totally distinct, how does that effect intersex people, especially considering potential medical intervention to help define them as more male or female is extremely recent. And then why do people throughout history have debilitating gender dysphoria that has been proven to exist on the base level of the nervous system and brain wiring. If someone designed as perfect, why are they then also biologically and innately considered sinful?

For the, intelligent, educated and honest people to know the truth, they should find answers to the following questions and try to understand what the secular scholars and researchers have to say about it 1. How many centuries after the death of the Prophet the Quran was written down and how many Qurans were in circulation before it was standardized?...Where isthe real quran now? 2. Were the contents of the Quran copied from any other ancient texts? (Christian, Jewish, Pagan, local myths and fables etc.) 3. Was there one or more than one Mecca? and where is the real Mecca? 4. What is the truth behind the Zam Zam well? 5. What is the real history of kaba? and who built it? 6. Do history, archeology, and science support the claims of Islam? 7. What is satanic verses and why is it important for the understanding of Islam? 8. 'Without lies, ...... dies' - about which religion it is said and why? 9. One of the major functions of a Prophet is to prophecy. What are the prophecies by 'Prophet' Mohammed and what are the ones that were really fulfilled? And What is the real name of Prophet Mohammed and what does it mean? 10. Are Muslims really the descendants of Abraham and if not, who really are they and what history says about it? 11. Who are the members of trinity? 'Father, Son and the Holy Spirit' or 'God, Jesus, and Mary', as 'revealed' to Prophet Mohammed by Allah, recorded in the Quran, and believed by the Muslims? 12. What about Prophet Mohammed 's flying visit to the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Did he really visit the temple and what is the evidence for it? 13. What are the contrbutions made by Christians and jews vs. Muslims, for the benefit of mankind? 14. Is there any difference between a Muslim with exposure to western ideas, thoughts and education and one without any exposure to the same? If there is any difference, what is the reason for the difference and what is the basis for the western thoughts, educaton etc. that makes the difference? 15. I am giving below the names of the founders of modern religions and also some positive and negative human traits. You decide for yourself who is the person who has all the negative traits and who's the person who has all the positive traits: a) Founders of modern religions: Gowthama Budha, Mahaveer Jain, Zorastar, Jesus Christ, Mohammed Nabi and Guru Nanak. b) Negative traits: Hatred, fanaticism, religious intolerance, violence, mass murder, womanizing, pedophilia, cunningness, coveteousness, mental imbalance, suicidal tendencies, dacoity, slave trading, ruthlessness, lieing, cunningness and deception. C) Positive traits: Love, care, compassion, peace, sacrifice, forgiveness, reconciliation, positivity, openness, truthfulness, inclusiveness and honesty. 16. What is the history of the black stone and where was it before being placed in the quoba? 17. Who is Al Qudam and what does the name mean? 18. Muslims speak of the "atrocities'' committed by the Jews against the Prophet and his followers. But in fact, it is the Prophet who plundered a jewish village, slaughtering the men and taking away the women. There are many more atrocities like this. Now, ask yourself what are the atrocities committed by the jews. 19. Is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the God of Prophet Mohammed and the Muslims (Allah) the same? If not, who is Allah and what is his origin? 20. How a religion that was started in Arabia, claims the God of the Jews, their scriptures, their prophets, their teachings, their way of life, their land, their doctrine, and their Holy places as its own? And what happened to the Jews, Christians, and the Pagans, the sons of the soil in the 6th century middle east, and who occupies their land now? Note: Watch channels like cira international, harris sulthan, Asli nabi, pfander, CP etc. for enlightenment.
