Shawn is just amazing. I have never seen a player, who doesn't´t know much about scales, but plays these extraordinary lines !!

Great little lesson from Shawn. So natural the way how he incorporates intervals instead of scales or licks like most people do. Shawn’s phrasing reminds me of John Coltrane a lot.

Wow that Suhr is so similar to SAITO S 622CS in Matte Sand Beige. Which I think also is a very nice guitar. Aaand very nice playing, just started watching.

i love the touch that Shawn has in his playing, im always trying to challenge myself technique wise, but also hyper focus on how an elite guitarist interacts with their instrument. Ive been tossing up whether or not to get into thick profile necks because there seem to be so many amazing players i respect advocating them, particularly on the youtube:). From what i can gather there are massive comfort advantages but ive noticed the hand is slightly more "grounded", and to be honest feels like an entire tweek in my technique is required from my limited experience trying them out. Seeing Shawn float along on that relatively thin profile neck with minimal but precise thumb reinforcement and occasional webbing support reminded me its probably worth persisting with that more "modern"(but ironically more traditionally correct) approach. (it really can be tiring after long sessions, so you can understand why im looking for comfort hacks:) Amazing video of course, immense detail , and truly inspiring 👍

Thanks for watching and for this super interesting comment my dude! I believe it's very important to keep our eyes open and test different playing techniques. I changed my approach a few times over the 26 years of playing and that made the player I am today. Still a work in process of course, haha! About thick guitar necks: it really is only a feel thing. Some find them very comfortable and some don't. You have to try a few out and give them some time. For example I love huge necks on LPs and teles but I actually prefer medium necks on strats and more modern guitars. I had to figure that out over the years. Cheers //Kris

I know everyone hones their craft differently depending on how their memory and coordination functions, but I must admit, when Shawn said, "Well I don't know any of the scales or... thingies." It goes to show that you can learn all the rules for chord progressions and create your own music theory handbook, but there are still guys out there who can move your soul with music that don't know which notes they're playing. As someone who is very much technically minded and can't learn by just feeling it, respect sir. Respect Suhr.

Fantastic vid. Shawn is the #1 guy on my list..... responsible for the most pedal purchases I've made. His playing just continues to improve. Unreal. He's become a stand out player. And his review of pedals is second to none... bcuz of his style and approach. If ur looking for a guitar pedal that's clean, dynamic and fully usable... you'll know, after watching his reviews. The Tilt rocks. Mr Tubbs rocks. And Kris... you're now rocking too. Ur playing is 9n another level now. Well done !! 🎸🎶👍👊

Great video, nuggets of information and cool jamming! Having watched a lot of Shawn’s videos, I know that shape on the D, G and B strings, but that chord Shawn plays at 6:59 is a revvelation! Gonna have to see if I can convince my fingers to play it. Edit: I don’t seem to have enough fingers! Shawn, are you somehow barring the G and B strings, or playing them both with your ring finger?!

I went to a guitar conservatory and what I learned many many years ago is that musicians are born. Many skilled musicians can develop chops and learn a bunch of things, but if it’s not in you, your creation and composition is going to just be meh. Shawn truly is a musical genius because it flows from within him. The terminology is just the tools to explain it to others, but the music is inside and that’s what makes a real MUSICIAN. Just my humble opinion.
