  • @Andreorsel

    @Andreorsel

    jakollee , i would not call this “outside playing”. This is all from the old bebop/Jazz school. What you are doing is connecting notes from scales or chords with chromatic movements. It is all from the Jazz school and nothing new. When you are playing realy outside you would have to stay much longer out of the tonality before comming back to notes within the tonality. A way to do this for instance is by superimposing chords. Say you have one chord a Cm7, what you can do is thinking: Ebm7 Ab7 I Dm7b5 G7 altered to Cm7 Now the first part of your improvasation is all in Dbm7 before you resolve to the Cm tonality, that realy sounds outside. You can of course expand on this and even stay longer outside of the tonality. The way Shawn uses this bebop approach in a more pop/ blues context you do not her often, and his fluidity in connecting the lines is realy great! I love his playing, but it is not containing secrets. Just go back listening to old school bepop/Jazz. Guys like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, etc... You will all find it in their improvisations. Someone who takes real outside playing to a whole other level was for instance Allan Holdsworth.

    What's a straight feel? Or even shuffle. I have a vague idea of that. Could you do a video on time and bars and stuff encompassing that and how to solo using those concepts. Just something fundamental if you could. Thanks Brett.

  • @superalvedon97

    @superalvedon97

    6 жыл бұрын

    A straight feel is in my world when you play the classic rock n roll thing, think Chuck Berry. So basically straight eight notes. In a shuffle you are delaying the second eight note which gives it the shuffle feel. You could also look at it as a triplet with the middle note taken out. Different ways to look at it.

Which is show people how to play guitar. Even though his job was to help Carrie get a good start to her career. Carrie didn't pick him to be part of her band. Arista at the time did that.

    Hi Brett is it true u are s lefty? I'm a dominant lefty but learned righty. Been playing 20 years and I can play but I feel I'd be much better if I played my natural way. Certain things like shred guitar and certain rhythms just require much more effort. Thoughts on your experience. I can tremelo pick at about 150 but tops I bet I can blow that away lefty in two months. On the other hand my legato is pretty good and my bending

    Wish you would have let Shawn teach us instead of constantly interrupting him. I really wanted to learn the lick at 9:15 and you just kept talking over him. I appreciate you having the interview but please let them talk/teach and be a little more conscientious about your interjections.
