I love how all of his covers are true to the original song, but at the same time they sound like they were written by him. It's personal enough to be his version, but similar enough to the original version to be true to them.

I came across Shawn James at the lowest point of my life, I had came across hellhound and fell in love with his singing. With every song I had came across by him I found a bit of determination to keep going. Started learning the guitar and started singing a lot more, made some great friends who taught me more and more. Started singing for friends, one of the best feelings ever, I don't feel down anymore. I hope this gets to Shawn, want him to know he's changed more life's than he would ever believe, keep going bud.

It's so amazing how this song was just a "classic" in my dad's shelf that whenever he put on it would be just noise to me, and then after listening to Shawn playing it I completely understood what it means for my dad... Ps.: dads been obsessed with this, that's life and delilah.

THERE IS NOTHING THIS MAN CAN'T DO!!! Every cover that he has done I have truly enjoyed from the original artist but then Shawn comes along and just steals me away from them like a thief in the night!

The way he stays so relaxed while producing some of the best vocals is a testament to how talented he really is.

Man after all the years growing up hearing this overplayed song I actually grew a resentment towards this band and especially this song. Its amazing how a cover from this great artist shawn completely changed my mind. Lyrically as well as melodically this song now dances on a different night, and the fiddlers tune is far from over.

@@kekz0r "Dark Folk" is a pretty vague umbrella term to be honest, that tries to describe a very niche, moody, bluesy sound, which can appear in very different genres - reaching from Blues/Country, across Electronic music, towards the Rock/Metal Genres. The term may be used synonym with "Dark Blues" or "Dark Country Music" - depending on who you ask. "Dark Folk" is a somewhat experimental attempt to describe that very specific sound of a Musician (and often times only a couple of songs), if you feel like the classic term "folklore" is not strong enough to describe it.
