I think the reason that the 2 sets seem to be "all over the place" for selection is different rights for different companies. With the 3 Shout! Factory Shaw Brothers sets and the Shout! Ti Lung/David Chiang set, rights seem to be quite scattered. I'm hoping that Shawscope vol 3 will have the One Armed Swordsman trilogy. I have the Hong Kong blu-rays, but would love to upgrade to a nice boxset.

Great review. Glad you like the artwork for return to 36th chamber ;) I heard that the American deliveries went out way early when they weren’t supposed to so think it was a huge accident. Golden harvest box sounds like a great idea. Either way I hope these aren’t the only two box sets arrow release in this size/format

Great vid as always, such a cool set. Only recently discovered your channel and clearly it’s what my life has been missing as plowing through your old videos. I try to only buy what releases I really really want these days so hoping some of these come to 88 single releases in the future. Crazy there isn’t a stand alone Blu Ray of 36th Chamber.

Love your in depth review, George! I largely agree with your gripes - as a whole, the collection is all over the place, but I'd expect there are some licensing issues so it's bound to be a grab bag. Overall, I love the variety and can't wait to see these flicks in HD. It's an amazing package and suprisingly a great deal for the sheer volume of flicks. And a Golden Harvest collection would be incredible!

I got that exact 36th Chamber of Shaolin VHS tape for Christmas one year in the 1990s from my parents, alongside a 'Bruceploitation' double feature VHS with Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave and Bruce Lee - The Man, The Myth. That was a great Christmas!

You've hit the nail on the head with what you're saying. They need to have some sort of order as it seems all over the place. So far I feel volume 1 is a bit better. From what I've been hearing, they're going to be doing volume 3 but it won't be a martial arts boxset.

It's not officially out in America yet and they actually pushed the release date back to december 6th (so it wouldn't be able to be apart of the Barnes & Noble sale apperently), but I guess they did ship it to various vendors througout America and atleast 1 of them started shipping it out to customers pretty much as soon as they got it so yes there's several people in America that's already had it for a month or so by now. Gotta start watching out for the "F**Ks" are you're getting closer and closer to the 1000 subs and monetization haha ;)

Great overview. The VHS of 36th Chamber & 5 Supers you have are the RENTAL copies, bigger box & heavy tape casing, and better quality tape . These were only originally sold to rental shops, not the public.The public/consumer copies came out years later in smaller boxes, lighter tapes & different artwork. I think the 36th Chamber big box was originally by Thorn EMI, as was New One Armed Swordsman. Warners got the rights later in the late 90's (?) The RENTAL copies came out at £70-£110 at the time late 80's/early 90s ? ! The sell throughs were £9.99 Great to see 5 Superfighters & Barefoot Kid in this collection , & good prints of Mercenaries & the rest- (Disciples of Shaolin the original to BFK is out by 88 films but would have been the perfect double bill in this boxset). The mishmash selection is good in a way, as it allows a diverse range over many years,. Thematic sets (or in a collectors realm- ideally to have them in chronological order, but that may be a bad marketing idea) are a better idea but that didn't happen, so lets hope more old films are mixed with the other periods. If they are mostly unarmed martial arts gems, mixed with some swordplay and only an occasional 'modern day action (ie guns & cars in it)' & kung fu-horror/sci Fi title it would cover most tastes Chor Yuen, Sun Chung & Tony Lou Chun-Ku should be included in any future volumes Early gems like Black Tavern,Devils Mirror, Brothers 5, Duel for Gold, 12 Gold Medallions, Delightful Forest, should be considered Vengeance ,Heroes 2 & Men from the Monastery , Boxers Rebellion, Blood Brothers should be essential. There's too many others from 75-84 to list. The thing about the quality of VHS & bootlegs was that we saw them on smaller screens, so it wasn't a massive issue.... unless it was going black & white, off tracking , impenetrable dark scenes , or unreadable subtitles - either from Fullscreen missing the edges , being obliterated by 3 other subtitles, or dropping off the bottom of the screen.

@@invincibleasiaofficial My ShawScope 2 arrived today - I decided to start with Mad Monkey Kung Fu but I'm having a hard time enjoying it as the picture seems to be mostly very fuzzy like out of focus the entire movie - almost like rezzed up from a DVD or something. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing that?

I’m in Chicago and just got the set a few days ago. There have been reviews for weeks now. I feel your pain. 😂 It seems very random as to when these arrive in all areas. The shipping industry is in the hole at the moment it would seem.

Such a classic film!!

The box is gorgeous. But frustrating at the same time. Another bunch of random SB flix thrown in one box. Take it or leave it. The artwork is amazing and the quality of the disc too, no doubt. But why?! WHY?! The Arrow Video is amazing, they usually give so much attention to each movie they put out, but Shaw Brothers? Well, ok, we have the rights, but let´s get rid of them quickly, put them in a box and get them out of here. Some of them even two movies on one disc. If the artwork wasn´t so beautiful I would say it´s even worse than EUREKA. It drives me crazy, but it´s far too tempting and exciting, so I´m gonna grab it again. 😀 Of course.
