Shasta Gravel Hugger 2022

Спорт

The Shasta Gravel Hugger is a gravel bike race held each March in the Shasta Valley of Northern California. www.gravelhugger.com/
The race starts and finishes in the town of Montague. There is a 100 mile course and a 100km (62mile) course.
I have helped photograph and video the race every year since it began. Each route has breathtaking views of Mt. Shasta and consists of about 50/50 gravel and pavement. The fast pavement sectors connect the ten challenging gravel sectors, including the infamous "Jeep Road". The race is built like a spring classic with sectors of Northern California gravel in place of European cobblestones. This course stands out with its rolling wide open roads and two major climbs totaling 4,700 feet of climbing. Race to win or win by riding your first century.

Great video! As a former competitive mountain biker and road racer I've never really considered gravel cycling. Basically, it was the huge increase in equipment prices thanks to the Armstrong era that led me to leave the competitive side of the sport. I don't want or need another $10K bike. The UCI and USA Cycling has already targeted gravel racing as its next victim for profiteering. Enjoy the grass roots movement while it lasts. Looks like a lot of fun!
