excellent, will definitely buy one. Straight to the point video with no BS. Keep up the good work!
I enjoyed this video for a 3rd time. Thank you for making quality videos with high-value content, that can be re-watched, instead of a video every day of jump-cut noise that you don't even want to watch once.
Thank you for producing this interesting and well-done video! Highly enjoyable! Wishing you all the Best! Greetings from Sweden!
I use my old FD 50mm f/1.4 with the same speed booster on a Pocket Cinema 4k and the results are as solid as we see here. My favorite application -- shooting under a full moon with no other light source. The speed booster offers a flat depth of field, though it adds a bit of coma. But as long as you aren't using this for astrophotos (and looking for pin-point stars), the slightly lower contrast sharpens up nicely in post.
Post more content in youtube! Your videos are very informative and interesting. 👌🏻
thanks for the video, don't stay away so long.
That lens gives some beautiful shots!
I have the 55mm 1.2 aspherical it's soft wide open but stop it down a little and it sharpens. It's great for low light 😊
Hands down my favorite lens I have ever owned. Definitely on my camera more than anything else in my bag. @thedugan 🤙🏽 I just came across your videos. Super well put together my friend. Keep On Keepin On
I have the L version of this 50mm and it is better in terms of sharpness and smoothness of the bokeh. But it has an aspherical element and that can cause onion rings in bokeh sometimes and mainly if I use it without the Lens Turbo. If the simple 1.2 version is not sharp enough you will not go wrong with the 1.4 FDn version. It is also very good and works perfect with the Lens Turbo II. Aaand it is much cheaper.
Bro. You’re channel is so good. Keep it up, and I hope you find some time to produce more dope content. We appreciate it
I am waiting to receive the speed booster to test with my A6000 and FD 55mm f1.2. I hope I can get some reasonably sharp pictures and video. Your pics are really nice. Thanks,
Yo dude you make some quality videos i wish you uploaded more often
Is the presence of a focusing chip on the adapter is really helpful?
excellent man!.. i just got a GH5 which i will use my existing FD mount lenses from the 90's ... been awhile between drinks! :P
Make morrrre content ur genius and easy to listen
Do you have a link to an adapter that can adapt this lens to an ef or efs camera.
I have a whole set of canon FD. Best lenses for video
speed booster do increase amount of light on sensor, but adding more glasses also reduces t stop and qual, what do you think if i have a 50mm and want to buy 35mm should i rather buy a speed booster, its not a manual lens
I got a FD 70-250mm for $35 and an adapter for $9, and I'm quite happy
Hi Jimmi, Just wanna know if the Lens Turbo II give you horrible flare at all? I'm deciding on purchasing or stay with dumb adapter.
is the Jello effect caused by warp stabilizer?
I would like to know if this video was shot on autofocus or manual focus ????
I would like to know how it works with a micro 4/3 sensor. I would really like to pair it with a full frame Sony A7R II, but the micro 4/3 Olympus OM-M10 is just so much cheaper. I wanted to know just how much does in body IS help here. How big of a must is it? Is the Focal reductor worth it? Mind you, i am not buying these lenses. I already have a full set of FD lenses as a hand me down from my grandfather, which I would like to put to use.
Plz get the link of these product...
How much optics in the adapter deads hhe image?
I have some old and awesome Minolta MD lenses. What speedboosters and adapters do you recommend the best? thanks! ps. awesome videos btw, i'm new here :P
Does this adapter exist for M42 lenses to Canon EF mount? (550d etc) Or can it not exist because of the distances? Id love to play around with a focal reducer on all my old lenses too! :|
So with he 50mm& the speed booster, will it be near 38mm or 74mm? On a full frame
How dou you stabilize the video?
how can i get this setup on a canon ef camera?
I happened to buy on a few years ago. Never used it because its soooooo hazy/blurry. Turns out it has dust/fungus inside. Anyone know a place in the US that will fix it?
Found a new canon FD 50 mm f 1.2 [looks exactly like yours EXCEPT a red ring] no distance scale...is it an L serie or the cheap old one?
what about nikon F mounts???
Hello Jimmi Kai, Really good video ! Did you use stabilizer gear or it was handheld? Thank you !
How much did you buy the lens for?
Couple newbie questions...Have Sony a6500 w EF to E speedbooster. Could I use a basic FD to EF adapter (w infinity focus), then connect to the EF-E speedbooster? Will this work properly? Also, if I already have a 50mm 1.4 FD, is it really worth getting a 50mm 1.2 FD? Advice appreciated. Thanks.

You need a FD to E speed booster for it to fit properly. And in my opinion, its not worth it if you already have the 50 1.4 The 1.2 is better, but just not worth buying again for an extra half of a stop
If I have the Canon EF lens turbo would I be better off to buy an FD to EF adapter and attach the lens that way or buy the FD to MFT lens turbo?
@VishnuAttiappan

Lehua Media Yes that's what I've planned to do with a 50 1.4 fd to my GH5 m43.
where did you buy this lens from ??
Hey there ! What kind of speed booster are you using on the video with the 50 1.2 FD? Canon lens

I have same question
Hey, Jimmy, I have the same lens and I want to use it on my full frame Canon 6d. Where can I get the conversion kit?
@LuigiVN
3 жыл бұрын
NotaSheep It can be adapted but EF to FD adapters use additional optics which can degrade image quality
On another video you did mention that the new 7 artisan 50 mm 1.1 is sharper (on the middle?), for that I'm very torn among this one and the 7 artisan. To be use on a7iii+techart pro. So the question is, at the end which one you would keep or buy?
@JimmiKai

Base on my testing on full frame, center sharpness is better on the 7 artisans, and corner sharpness is better on the Canon. They're very different lenses, the bokeh looks very different. Look at some photo on Flickr and see which look you prefer

Thank you will do that indeed.
hey man! nice video... I`m an entusiast filmmaker and photographer and I only have a canon t3i, yeah... a t3i in the 2018, but I want to go full frame, can you please tell me what speedbooster ring I have to use to go full frame in a 1.5crop factor canon t3i camera? thnx!!

Sorry to tell you, but speed booster can't be used on DSLRs due to the flange distance. If you're into filmmaking, i recommend the Sony a6300 or a6500.

wow, that makes me pretty sad rigth now, and do you know something similar to a speed booster that runs on dslr camera?, once again thnx!
Hi please do one more video about this lens using a cheap pixco speed booster. Please.. Thank you.

Sorry. I can't even afford for myself. But thanks anyway.
Hi. My main camera is a Nikon D3300: it's not a bad camera, but I'm unsatisfied with the video performance (it lacks definition, high dinamic range and has noise problems in video right from ISO 200), and the photos aren't great, either. Moreover I can't use some vintage and cheap lens that I have lying around because of the distance between the lens mount point and the sensor. Because of that I'd like to move to a mirrorless with higher quality than my DSLR. What's the best mirrorless camera for videos under 600$? I mostly do videos in which I talk alone in front of the camera (and then put some b-rolls) but I want to do some "cinematics" and some music videos. The choices are: Panasonic GX85 (aka GX80/G7 Mk 2), Panasonic G7, Sony a5100, Sony a5000, Sony a6000. Are there any alternatives that I haven't included in the list? What's the best one?The GX85 has very good in-body 5-axis OIS that is great to have if using vintage lens or lens without OIS for cinematics. But the GX85 lacks a microphone input that the G7 has, and the G7 has the same sensor of the GX85, just without the in-body OIS and a worse shutter. The Sonys a5xxx don't attract me much, while the a6000 should have higher definition; but it's an older camera, so I'm worried about the stabilization, high-ISO performance and autofocus performance in comparison to the other ones.

Nikon mount is with the longest flange distance so - you can use only nikon mount lenses. That is why I hate mirrors and I am about to sell every DSLR that is left in my bag :)

So what mirrorless should suit my needs the best?

I actually had the GH4 (M43) before, and from my experience, the sensor is just too small, and noise is noticeable pass ISO800. My recommendation would be the Sony A6XXX cameras. The A6000 is actually not bad if you don't need 4K video. You can find some good deals on second hand A6300 right now.

Jimmi-Kai I do appreciate your advice, but right now I can't find any a6300 for anything near the 600$ (lens included). The a6000 is on my list, but actually it doesn't seem to be anything great because it lacks both a microphone jack and in-body OIS, can't record 4K and has a short battery life. Is the sensor so good that it's worth the trade? Panasonics looked like the two most obvious alternatives: have you ever tried the GX85?

If you you're okay with m43 sensors, and the lens selection, then the GX85 is actually a really nice option. Just keep in mind that sensor size effects the mount of bokeh you get as well.
Has anyone tried this setup with a Nikon 50mm f/1.2?
I happened to buy this a long time ago. It was the Canon 55mm F1.2 FL. I.e. the silver version of this one. Problem is: ITS FULL OF DUST inside lol. I need to ship it to a repair shop. They'll Charge me $70 to clean it and calibrate it again. Should I? I really don't wanna spend +$1k on the L version.

On a lens of this width and aperture, dust is going to have basically nil effect on the images produced. Even at small apertures, the light is uncollimated enough that you won't see it at all. As an aside, if you are really concerned, 99% of that dust is likely to be on the surfaces adjacent the aperture blades, which are completely open to outside air. The easiest way to clean is to get a round rubber tool (drain plug, bung stopper, etc) and remove the name ring from the front by turning counter clockwise. Next, turn the exposed lens cell counterclockwise, and the whole assembly will come out, giving you access to the affected surfaces. Give them a wipe with a lint-free cloth followed by some puffs of air to remove any lingering dust, and screw everything back together. It is literally a 2 minute job and requires no calibration, since you aren't fiddling with the helical or aperture. $70 is simply the shop trying to take advantage of your naivete. The FL version is a hell of a lens, really gorgeous for portraits, which is not surprising given it is very similar to the various well-regarded Tomioka-made f/1.4 Planar clones. The one downside is that it's single coated and prone to flare, but some people like that.
make more videos.

okey dokey
They are not sharp because they were never designed to be sharp in the first place. You end up shooting at F2 anyway, so you are wasting your money. At f2-2.8, the 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 are as sharp as each other. It's how they render colours and contrast that matters, and of the three, the 1.8 wins hands down and it's no contest at f5.6. Save your money.
