@@calebbrunkow I'm a sucker for looks so yeah i was drawn in by the pure aesthetics of the Canon lenses, the red ringed L's in particular. Hence why my first SLR was a Canon AE-1P. I have also been a Canon shooter in my entire digital career so there's also that :P That being said, i've become more and more drawn to Nikon's 35mm SLR's and lenses lately, and i might just have to pick up some of those too.

Amazing video, didn't know that the difference between the L and the non L were that minor. Would love to see a similar comparison with the Nikkor lenses. Like the 50mm 1.2 Ai/Ai-s, 55mm 1.2 S.C and/or the 58mm 1.2 Noct.

I agree the 50/1.2 non-L is the better bang for the buck. I think a good point worth mentioning, maybe an unpopular opinion, but is anyone actually out there shooting narratives, commercials, paid work, etc. wide-open on nFD’s? Sometimes it’s appropriate, totally! Even on non-L’s it can be a desirable look that you can totally get away with. However, by the time you stop these lenses down to an appropriate aperture for most projects, they basically all match. Like Caleb said, the 50/1.2 L’s flares offer more “magic.” At the cost of rent. Great video Caleb!
