    If your sanding big projects, (tables, wood pieces etc etc) definitely need a respirator. I know someone who was sanding large amounts of 2 part allumilite using just a cloth medical mask and he got super sick. Took him months to recover. I know when I sand, especially with an angle grinder I am absolutely covered in epoxy dust. Goggles or safety glasses are definitely a plus too!!

    As long as you think safety first you will be ok (unless you have any allergic reactions) Start small, well ventilates, protective gear and try different brands until you find a safe one for you.

    Me too, I've seen people make some really beautiful pieces with resin so started looking into it but didn't realise you needed a mask and that it is dangerous, plus I have mild asthma so as much as I really want to try it I'm also talking myself out of it now 🙈

    When I’m mixing pigments into the resin and pouring into the mould, I find the mask gives me a really bad neck ache. I can only make about two small pendants for jewellery before I realise my neck is in a lot of pain where I work on a desk and am looking down. Do I need the filter mask on the entire time? Like once it’s cured for example and I’m attaching things to the pendent or when I’m making my next coloured batch I can switch to the thinner mask? I feel I’d get a lot more done and not be in so much neck and shoulder pain if I could swap out to a lighter mask when I’m not curing the resin.

    Hi. I want to use UV resin to coat/dome polymer clay in my garden and cure it using direct sunlight. I wouldn't be around when it's curing. Do you still recommend using a respirator when I pour the resin on the polymer clay? I was thinking of using an FFP2 mask, safety glasses and gloves. What I wonder is if resin is relatively safe when it's not being cured. Thanks a lot.

    Hello, thank you for the helpful video! Do you know for how long I can use a filter in my respirator mask before I have to change them? I've been working with UV resin for 3 years but I only started taking it more seriously now, because I need to work with it more frequently so I want to make sure I won't have any health issues from it later.

    Your can find them on Amazon easy, I search respirator for fumes. Most of them are linked to resin use but consider if you want a full face mask or half. if you got for half consider protecting your eyes as you can get tiny resin bubbles.

    Hi Sharon i have small space in the house so I use one of the corner in the common area to do pouring, am wondering if the respirator is only needed during pouring like the smell would last in the room for hours, but wondering if the poison in it would last as long as it smells? do I have to leave the window open 24hours before its fully cured, worry as I have elders in the house. Thanks in advance!!

    I would have to recommend you were one as soon as you mix your chemicals and work on your piece. Most chemicals come out when you are adding heat to it but some people can have reaction all the time. Once I have finished working on a piece and its curing I remove my respirator but I have my art covered up, window open and my door open. Sometime I take a walk to balance out the smell. See how you go when working with it but also be cautious and see how you respond to it. Don't eat or drink in the room with Resin where possible, its something the manufacturers recommend. Hope that helps

  • @SharonLindleyVividDaysArt

    @SharonLindleyVividDaysArt

    It really depends on the Resin and any health problems you have. Whilst I should always encourage PPE if you are only using it once and not repeatedly, I would work on it outside in fresh air if possible. Or in a place where you can open every window. At the end of the day its your body so its about a calculated risk, I know it sounds vague but if you get addicted after you first play with Resin please invest in a ventilator. I sometime make a calculated risk when i do a step by step tutorial.

    All Resin can be harmful, you need to always wear a respirator, when you add heat you release fumes. So well ventilated, don't drink in there or eat, have it well ventilated. Just make sure your respirator is one that projects from fumes. I get mine from amazon. Thank you so much, sorry for the late response I have 4 months out for creating to be with Neil and buy our new home. I am back creating again so looking forward to the creative year ahead

    Honestly I don't unless it has filters. You need one you can get from a local hardware store for paints and fumes IMO. Outdoors is a good option always if you can as well ventilated areas are best. When you need to heat up you resin you will be close to it and still breathing in the fumes. I would say do you research, and regardless of what manufacturers say protect your lungs as we all react differently. Hope you opinion helps but its just my opinion.

    I would recommend following the manufactures instructor as they all differ so much. I use the respirator from a local hard ware store for paint fumes. Resin is best cured at a natural heat and not on heaters but you can work outside with resin and cover it in a box but temperatures can impact curing. Too ot or Too cold can cause it not not cure or cure too fast or create mist, so do some research on the brands you are thinking of using.
