    Shannon Miller was a beast in her time, yes! But, Simone Biles is not ungrateful and just like Shannon Miller she’s a perfectionist. Simone is just more powerful. She’s what happenes when you combine the perfectionism of Shannon Miller with power of Dominique Dawes. You get a GOAT. 😁

    Agree, she is so tiny. I’ve notice that today’s gymnasts are so much thicker and muscular. They are by no means fat, they are just not as tiny like the girls before 2000. Now it’s all about the tumbling, I miss the old days. I went to th same gym as her and Steve and Peggy were my coaches. It was really tough. Peggy was harsh, but I guess that’s normal. Sometimes I’m sad I didn’t hang in there because I loved it but it got way to stressful and I was only 12. I remember Barcelona like it was yesterday.

    For real. Nastia Liukin winning AA at the 2008 olympics was truly the end of graceful gymnastics. At the same time I feel Shawn Johnson ushered in the power acrobatics gymnast craze we are seeing now during that same quad. Biles just reminds me of a shorter more muscular version of her.

    Shannon competed against some legends in the sport. Her era was packed full of quality gymnasts. She doesn't get the credit that Say a Nastia or Carly get, but she certainly competed against tougher fields.

    She didn't just compete against other gymnastics legends. She competed during the tail end of the dominance of the Soviet Union and she also competed when compulsories were still in play. The Soviet Union dissolved, of course, but I have to wonder what the state of USA gymnastics would be like today if compulsories were still in play. I don't think we'd have names like Liukin, Patterson, or even Biles - they'd have been buried by the international athletes. Fair disclosure - I am a Shannon Miller fan. She is my favorite gymnast of all time, followed by Tatiana Lysenko. Once Shannon Miller retired, I stopped watching gymnastics on a regular basis, but I always kept up with the sport. I have only seen two gymnasts who have since become all-time favorites in the 19 years since Miller's retirement: Russia's Aliya Mustafina and Romania's Larisa Iordache. And I have countless favorites from between 1980 and 2000. Telling.

    @Mara L I think Simone would have done well in compulsories but I doubt she would have been dominant, and back when that was a big part of scoring she wouldn't have been able to be as dominant. Then again who knows, Shushunova was even less polished and power oriented than Biles with much worse form but was pretty great in compulsories, only Silivas was better off her era. Now Raisman, she would be fucked in the compulsory era, forget it. She might still make teams for her optional routines, but that is it.

  • @simonsenecal6560

    @Mara L Why do you think that? Her form is awful, that isn't the kind of gymnast who usually excels at compulsories.

    @Mara L "her form is top notch compared to Simone's". Seriously you need your eyes tested. Just compare at their Amanars, look at slo mos of their feet and legs on different skills on bars and beam, and you will see who has better form.

    Mara L Do you know what form means? Simone’s high E scores are due to her textbook form on her elements. Simone’s brilliance isn’t just due to her pushing WAG to new heights in terms of difficulty and her consistency but the fact that she does her elements well with excellent form. She doesn’t chuck her skills like so many.

    @@simonsenecal6560 pfft. It's political when it comes to Biles... Plus her competition was pitiful compared to when Shannon competed, so Shannon had it harder with her opponents and still came out on top

    @@dougraddi908 political? Interesting. I agree the competition, particularly in the All Around is weaker now but I guarantee you put her in any era and Miller still does not go unbeaten in major AA competition for about 8 years as Biles will probably finish doing this summer.

  • @dougraddi908

    @dougraddi908

    @@simonsenecal6560 probably Simone will go unbeaten but, like I said who are and were her competition, no one, Mustafina is inconsistent. Simone really has no one where Shannon competed in the golden age of gymnastics where every year from 1989-2000 there were at least 5 girls who could have taken the AA. Gymnastics hasn't been competitive since 2002.

  • @simonsenecal6560

    @simonsenecal6560

    @@dougraddi908 I acknowledged the field was stronger then, especialy in the All Around. No arguments there. However Shannon also would not have achieved what Simone has in any era. You really think if Shannon was born into today she goes 8 years unbeaten in major AA and wins the number of individual world and Olympic golds Simone has? Not a chance. And don't forget it is not like Shannon didn't have some weak years too, 1993 was a super weak year, and that not so coincidentally was the year Shannon had her most successful worlds and Olympics ever with 3 individual golds (would have been 4 or all 5 if she didn't choke on beam). Annia Hatch in her younger self was in bar finals, and Milosovici won beam gold that year, that says enough. Shannon had tougher competition than Simone or Nastia, but she was lucky to not have the competition say Kathy Johnson had to deal with in an even tougher era where politics was much more against Americans than when she competed. Anyway I am fine if you think Shannon is the best American ever. Just that most people are now calling Simone the best gymnast ever period, not just best American ever, so obviously you would be in the vast minority on that view.
