    Most people don't know, but we had a whole ballet studio at Dynamo. We went to ballet once a week. That's why her floor and beam were SO phenomenal. We had a LITERAL ballerina coaching us! Miller was ROBBED in Barcelona💯💯

    Kristin Marie they are 2 totally different style of gymnasts. Shannon is artistically perfect in almost everything here. Simone is incredible with her acrobatic abilities and execution of those. I enjoy watching both of them... but I would say I enjoy watching Shannon’s routines just a little bit more because they just are so perfect.

    Kristin Marie I’m a fan of Shannon as I said but Simone kicks butt with the current code of points. It’s not Simone’s fault she does more difficult acrobatic elements and gets rewarded with higher scores.

    Kristin Marie I would agree with you that Simone would not have won in the 1990s. But you also need to think that the new code of points has to reward difficulty and innovations. The old one didn’t do that.

    Despite all the time since this day back in 1993 there is still a record that has never been broken by either a male or a female gymnast in World Championship or Olympic history: Shannon Remains the only gymnast in history who has won all events in preliminaries at a world championship or Olympics. Simone Biles came close because she finished second on uneven bars and won everything else.. Shannon's record still exists. No ties just her being the top on all four events. No one has ever done it since.

    Wow, she was on fire in qualies. If she had performed like this in the finals, she would have won easily. That’s just proves how good she was. She had a shaky beam routine and some other minor problems in the finals and she still won. But that was four routines done about as solidly and cleanly as she could produce. Fantastic

    @@rcarnegie78I am aware she won the title. Didn’t I say she won even though she made mistakes? My point was that had she done these routines in the AA final, she would have won with more of a margin. But because she had a shaky beam routine in the finals, she only beat Gogean by .007 and Lysenko by .05. I think Gogean competed about as well as she could have but Lysenko had two critical errors that could have allowed her to win outright, and we saw Dawes was leading all of them until that disastrous final vault. Shannon was a cut above the field, as evidenced by the fact that she still won even with some mistakes. But had she thrown down four routines like this in the finals, it wouldn’t have been close. She would have dominated.

    I know I'm going to get arguments but I just noticed the beam isn't as wide as today's beam and the vault was definitely a lot harder to do back then compared to today's huge vault.

  • @mmoran3

    @mmoran3

    4 жыл бұрын

    The beam was and still is 4 inches wide, however, the vault table, bars and floor have evovled since this competition. The vault table is completely different. The bars are further apart and the floor today has springs that are almost double the size as this competition, thus giving the gymnast much more bounce/airtime today.

    @@mmoran3 very true! I competed at an elite level in the late 90s and I have had to have 2 back surgeries and my body creaks all day and especially when I wake up. We didnt have all the soft landings in practice, and the floors were not nearly as springy. I am glad they changed it so girls bodies can last longer in the sport. We landed everything on hard surfaces. I remember when we first started getting foam pits put in.😂 I'm getting very old😂

    one thing i never could figure out was how most gymnats make those overshoots look so simple to do. (transition from high to low bar) I always had to do a low bar giant directly out of the overshoot bc i just couldn't stop my momentum.

  • @ajimenez1719ify

    Kameron Coleman I think if you close your shoulder angle directly out of it, it will slow your momentum down enough to just kip out of it. Easier said than done, I know lol. It may also help if you close your shoulder angle before letting go of the high bar too. Back when I was still competing as an elite gymnast, skills were ALOT higher valued and harder to execute too, for some reason. You didn't see alot of pak saltos or toe ons back then. (early to mid 90's.)

    Lol I know. I figured out what I was doing wrong. Very, very simple. I was rushing down a little bit from the handstand like I would just go down like an overshoot regular not to hand.

  • @ajimenez1719ify

    @ajimenez1719ify

    7 жыл бұрын

    Kameron Coleman I'll tell ya something else I always had trouble with.....i never could stop twisting on time, on floor, lol. It was hilarious bc it's common sense that a full is going to be easier than a double or triple full but, not for me. I couldn't do anything less than a double full if it was only one rotation. (If it was a double rotating salto, I could stop at just a full, though. My floor coach used to always say "you can't do a simple full twisting layout but, you can put a full-in to your feet with no problem? You can't do a full but you can execute a triple with ease? None of that makes a lick of sense!") I honestly think it's a mental thing. Sometimes gymnasts get it in their head that they can't do something so it's only natural that the body would follow suit. It's a mental block, I guess would be the word for it.

  • @kameroncoleman9293

    @kameroncoleman9293

    7 жыл бұрын

    Haha. Twist disease. If I tried opening up a full, I'd be at a 1 1/2 haha. I can do a full without trying to twist it just automatically twists. It's very weird. Sometimes, on my double back beam dismount I think I'm going to under rotate so I pull it and I've gotten like 3 concussions from landing on my head. So, I was forced to change to a twisting dismount which I can do up to a triple full but I compete a Double so I just open up a full LOL
