I love everything Olson/Kundig does. Continues to be the best at the modern home ideal. Perfect forms, contrasts, siting, materials, flawless.

I'm struck by the beautiful photography in this video, of the building and the surroundings. I also think it's nice to see architecture that is a little different from the mass produced, but still focused around usability and being connected to nature. However, part of me is somewhat disturbed by what I would describe as excess, or surplus. When I think of all the people in the world who struggle with even the most basic shed as a place of living - having two bathtubs under a roof that opens up or a massive amount of seemingly unused indoor space in a location that looks extremely exclusive to the majority of the population, I simply cannot justify this kind of architecture. I might suffer from some kind of tall poppy syndrome, but I'm still interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject. Is moderation based on ethical and moral values ever part of developing a new design?
