Yea, shadow and bone is overrated. SOC is definitely one of my favorite books though. Really the only character I like in shadow and bone is Genya. It is especially disappointing when you read SOC right before it, I made the mistake of doing that and it probably impacted my rating. If people are looking for a YA fantasy enemies too lovers novel with a hot morally grey character they need to check out “school for good and evil.”. It is honestly so good and I haven’t seen it anywhere, but it really deserves hype. It has six books and they are really good, and the person who plays Jesper in shadow and bone is going to be in the film adaptation of the first book. IF ANYONE HERE HAS READ IT PLS HELP TO GIVE THIS SERIES MORE HYPE!

people like the darkling BECAUSE he’s the villain- he’s interesting and complex. we don’t care that he’s a bad dude, we know that, that’s why we like him tbh. saying all that, i don’t even dislike mal necessarily. i just think he’s a bit boring and plain and sometimes very annoying.

Funny, I don't think he's a complex character at all. At the end of book 1 he's just full one dimentional villain for the rest of the series.

Him encouraging you and making you feel good about yourself when you said you ate a lot was like major boyfriend points!...maybe that's something I'm being weird about but being someone that is sensitive about appearance and food it is so nice to hear my boyfriend encourage me even if I don't ask or specifically "need" it in that moment. Hey Peyton! I ADORE your channel! I have one question though, your books are always so amazingly neat! Even though you have read through them and you wave them around, (the tabs clearly show how you love your books), your book spines seem perfect and your pages always stay neat... How do you do it?

I’m trying to decide if I want to read S & B......cause of the Netflix show.

I was a Malina fan but honestly now I see the Gale and Katniss comparison I will never be able to look at them the same again

I just finished it and I also thought that Mal and Gale give off the same vibe

I gave it four stars. I'm for sure team Mal, though I've only read book 1.

the darkling is like 10000000000000000000000000x older than alina... kinda weird to ship them together... I agree, O V E R H Y P E D ...

The only character I think is the most interesting is the darkling but that could be because I imagine him as Timothée Chalamet

From someone suffering from chronic migraines as well try and make the MRI's relaxing!! Some clinics give you headphones with music which is nice but also (although this sounds weird) literally fall asleep, such good nap time hahahaha. I hope everything goes well

I've only JUST read Shadow and Bone, so I totally missed the biggest hype of when it first came out. I mean, it's still a pretty hyped book, but whatever. Since I've only read the one book, I can't say much of the rest of them. But. Yes, definitely an OK book. I do feel like there is so much missing. And when you compared it to Mal and Alina being like Gale and Katniss, I was like, yes, that was the similarity I was feeling while reading the book. 🤣🤣 I'm definitely going to continue reading the rest of the books though. Also, from what I've heard and seen of the show, yeah, it definitley feels like it's going to be SO much better. Maybe it's like they are "fixing" what's srong/missing in the books ?! 🤷‍♀️

the series was good but the plot and writing were mediocre compared to the hype, definitely liked six of crows more

I definitely agree! There’s a lot of potential here but the characters and writing compared to SOC are nothing oof

I liked the shadow and bone trilogy but I do think the original trilogy is very overhyped. Yes I did enjoy it but I prefer the six of crows duology

Am I the only one who thinks it's actually more of an unpopular opinion to love this book than to think it's overrated?

I gave shadow and bone 3/5, siege and storm 2/5, and ruin and rising 3/5. i also dont really like mal and i liked the darkling at first but not anymore. i dont really ship anyone in this book series tbh. if anything I shipped her with nikolai but ik he gets a different love interest in king of scars so.

Even though I love this book I also agree it is a bit overhyped

I recently finished this book, too.. I honestly don't ship anyone with anyone lol. The romance felt really unnecessary. And this is coming from someone who loves fantasy with a little bit of romance.. I'm not a fan of Alina too. Genya's bonus chapter at the end is much more interesting than the whole book (sorry!). I gave it 3 stars too!

I have the book and I want to read it and I a really into it and the series but my ADHD is definitely holding me back.

So I have had this book since like 6th grade and never read it but I wanted to for the longest and the show gave me an excuse to actually read it

I am really excited for the show because I didn't vibe with the books.... I didn't like Alina, Mal or the Darkling when I read it years ago, and I only made it through the first two, I just couldn't read the last one

I rlly don’t like the Darkling, but Mal is about as deep as a puddle. I rlly want to root for Mal and Aline, but they’re just so bland aghhhhh. At least the Darkling has some personality.

I was "team Darkling", but at the end of the book i decided that I am definely "team don´t care" .... Mal is just... I don´t care about him and Darkling could be better... But i like Alina! I think she´s a good MC

I was so let down by this book. It feels like a Wattpad book with Russian reference.
