SHADOW & BONE | Alina Starkov Costume Breakdown
As promised, here comes a video on how I came of with the design of my Alina Starkov costume from Leigh Bardugo's Shadow & Bone.
The garment/look was completely designed and created by me. Please do not use the design without my permission.

This was an absolute joy to watch, I'm so glad that now everyone else will be able to appreciate the depth of thought and all the careful consideration and attention to detail that went into this costume!

Thank you! :) I'm very happy you like it.
Sina! The amount of care and consideration you put into the planning step alone is just amazing. Your diligence, creativity, and skill combine to create such a lovely work of art, and that's exactly what this kefta is! I've always been so afraid to craft original cosplay, as I've no background in fashion design, but this breakdown of your process makes me feel as if I can. Thank you for motivating me to give it a go. And thank you for sharing your own sources of inspiration. I love the draw from particular pieces of text, the visual moodboard, and for normalizing that balance between attention to detail, but also not having to make every single little piece to qualify as cosplay.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really happy you enjoyed this video and that it helped to inspire you. I have absolutely no background in fashion design either. I can't even draw (as you could see). What I've learned in the past two years is that any design approach is legit and perfectly fine - even if you can draw or not. So give it a go! I found it incredibly liberating and fun!
This is incredible… Sorry that I’m so late to the party… I was always admiring the cosplay, but had no idea what it was from… yes, I recently watched the Netflix show … your costume design is amazing … and this video is so beautifully put together ❤️❤️
Sina oh my goSH, this was so informative and such a pleasure to watch!! The way you put this together was so professional, it felt like I was watching a real costuming documentary!! I would LOVE to see more stuff like this from you, like with your Elain and Jude cosplays! Your design process is just so good

I'm happy you liked it and I hope it can help you with your Zoya design!! I've been dying to see what you'll come up with ever since we talked about it at Katsu! I feel you 100% on the lack of motivation due to the lack of cons.. I hope you can find your motivation to craft again soon!
This was an absolute pleasure to watch! Thank you so much for sharing your thought process with us. It makes me appreciate your design even more, the details are gorgeous. I remember seeing your photos way before I even knew about the Grishaverse and your stunning portrayal stuck with me.
