@@umagetty5565 Oh, horse feathers! Gorillas mate just fine in front of non-dominant males - and Kiyomasa wasn’t interfering, he was just curious about Ai’s condition. Regarding the wish for Shabani and Ai to mate: You have to realize that these are gorillas, not humans, and they don’t have the same emotional need for physicality OR for privacy. I’ve seen gorillas mate in a zoo enclosure behind glass with a crowd of visitors looking on. Keep in mind that there is already an over-abundance of male gorillas in captivity that are difficult to find placements for - which is likely why Kiyomasa is still with the troop even as we watch his silver hair start to emerge. Gorillas live a long time in captivity - which means zoos can’t keep allowing more and more gorillas to breed because they wouldn’t be able to provide them with sufficient space or re-home them. Also, Annie had to be taken from the troop in her infancy because Ai couldn’t care for her properly. Given these facts, it would be irresponsible to try and encourage Ai to conceive again. Moreover, why would you hope for Ai to get pregnant again when she clearly has no interest in reproducing at present? Lastly: For every person longing to see new baby gorillas born, there are those who point out that these are wild animals who ought to be living in jungles. Yes, those born in captivity are acclimated to their environment, but those in captivity are meant to be educational and to encourage conservation efforts of their non-captive brethren. They should not be bred in captivity simply for our entertainment - that would be hugely unethical!

I bet there would be more contact between Ai and shabani if they were in an enclosure by themselves..kyiomasa and nene interfere kyiomasa needs to go already...

poor shabani, doesnt get any privacy or separate time to be alone with Ai, and on top of that, he has to deal with Kiyomasa the Hormone Monster who is clearly throwing a monkey wrench into the situation half the time 😂😟

Hopefully we will have a new female in the family soon. Shabani is simply too sweet to force Ai. Haoko most of the time forces the females.

This issue should have been addressed a few years ago by the zoo. Don't know if nene is still the alpha female but it may be too late for Ai adjust but she likes to get attention and tease shabani. He deserves better he is a lovely Silverback.

I wish Ai was like Tayari. She is one of the most affectionate female gorillas I've seen and I feel like Shabani deserves that and so much more. I adore Ai but it gets frustrating when she doesn't reciprocate. I don't think it's of any fault of her own, she's just one hell of an enigma.

All of these silverbacks deserve younger female's. Just look at momo and haoko. They all have females that are much older than them. And poor momo only has one, and she only goes into estrus about every 6 1/2 years. These are beautiful silverbacks that should have multiple females, the way that it's meant to be.

Big issue from what I read is Ai hasn’t gone into estrus an Shabani doesn’t have a strong libido like his brother. Shabani also preferred Nene for along time a there never has been much interest from Ai towards Shabani. He does need another breeding female

Browsing over the other gorilla channels Shabani imo is such a gentle nonaggressive and is extremely caring towards his entire family where he could just as easily bend the troops to his every whim but most often it's not reciprocated by most of the family.. poor guy strikes me as very lonely... I love that guy and haven't seen any of the others with such gentle behavior

Wow Shabani opened his heart today. Gorillas don't look each other in the eyes like us humans I noticed. They are like horses, they totally depend on body language in that aspect.

think Shabani is just hoping Ai gets interested and he will spring into action. He clearly needs a new young female. Maybe she sees Shabani as a father? I don't know what she thinks. Shabani's mother (Moulia) before meeting the legendary Kibabu was with another silverback and they had a baby. But they didn't get along very well... A few years later she was introduced to Kibabu and they created 5 beautiful babies. Moulia was a sweet gorilla - a great mom

Надо радоваться, что им достались старухи и они имели возможность продлить свой род. У Киемасы, Рики, Кинтаро и Гентаро мизерные шансы иметь свою семью. Будут жить в одиночестве, как несчастный Монта, о котором все забыли.

Yes, Shabani needs a younger female who will mate with him. He is so patient, nothing like Haoko. Haoko is more aggressive when it comes to mating. Nene is getting too old now. She used to give in to Shabani, but her time is up for mating. I don't know if Ai is on birth control, and if she is does that decrease her libido? I don't know! However, Shabani is in the prime of his life and deserves to have a young female who will give him another son (or daughter). Kiyo is getting too big now and will have to leave sooner or later. I love Ai, but she won't give Shabani the time of day. Come on Higashiyama Zoo, let get working on this 😭for Shabani.

The 15 second impasse between Shabani and Ai at 8:18 was quite funny!!! I couldn’t help but think that Kiyomasa’s drumming at 8:22 was making fun of Shabani’s drumming attempt at dominance in front of Ai earlier. 😜

I think Ai is just starting to be in estrus. While her actions aren’t showing that she is yet, she must be giving off pheromones or some sort of scent because both Shabani and Kiyo were acting much different to Ai today. Just look at how hard Kiyo tries to touch/smell her at 4:54 … I really hope that Shabani gets to mate with her and that this doesn’t create big problems for him and Kiyo. Looking forward to some progress over the next few videos. Thanks for the good work!

I think Momoko loathes Haoko, she almost always gets up and walks away when he comes near. That troop is constantly chasing after Haoko, he acts like a grump constantly.

Ai isn't interested in Shabani and she doesn't need to have any more babies she is not the motherly type.

Kiyomasa, Shabani's son, the zoo has a problem because he is reaching adulthood and two males in such a small space, no matter how young he is, will cause confrontations, no matter what, they are not human and have a behavior defined by nature to defend resources: territory, food and females. Zoos are destined to disappear, they are prisons for animals and they have no meaning in 2024.

This is a false and uninformed opinion. Zoos are important for studying animals and their behaviors as well as conservation efforts, especially for endangered species. The money obtained through visitors helps to support said animals (feeding/medicine/etc) which allows for captive breeding to reintroduce endangered animals back into the wild. Shabani and this group are Western Lowland Gorillas, a critically endangered species. Zoos may not be 100% ideal for the animals in it compared to the wild, but it’s the only realistic chance some species have to not become extinct. Would you prefer extinction then?
